Make bookcase door, beginning woodworking classes seattle, dollhouse miniatures diy - How to DIY
I’ve put together a list of do-it-yourself articles on how to build a secret bookcase door.
DIY Mystery Bookcase Door – This Instructables tutorial includes 8 pictures and a complete breakdown on how to make a swing-out bookcase coat closet door. Possibly the most important part of the build is figuring out how to hinge all the weight a bookcase will carry. I found castors were a pain though, so I just let the bookcase slide on the carpet, which worked surprisingly well.
I have a bookcase door in my house that was built by the contractors with all OTS parts, sorry I don’t have more specific info but it IS doable with commercial parts. You could reduce some of the hinging and balance problems by putting a turntable directly under the center of the bookcase. Objective was to achieve a hidden door look, mix in my love of Star Wars and close off the theater. My approach was to find a way to have the bookcases appear to be static, yet roll open when needed.
This door conceals a closet, and opens above the baseboard to leave no trace of a door at the bottom. They offer a couple options, and most of the shelves appear to be made out of MDF, but they do offer hardwood fluting on the bookcases.
I got a lot of the concepts from other hidden bookcase door tutorials, but added some twists of my own. Using wheels on the bottom is more common on bookcases that swing inward like this, than outward into the main room. It is narrow, and includes adding fake books to make it look realistic, but to keep space and weight down.
Check out the gallery for hidden pantry doors, sliding bookcases, and stairs that lift up to reveal hidden passageways. These are built to fit your space, and the bookshelves fold in the middle like a closet door, gliding on tracks from both the top and the bottom of the bookcases.
Each bookcase is designed to replace an existing door, so they can be used in new construction and remodeling existing structures.
Then again I have seen a grown man, drunk as all hang off a fridge door and nothing bad at all happened. It will take cutting up quite a few books, but the end result is a fine looking, space saving, hidden door. By welding the brackets on in place of the wheels he has a sturdy way to mount both the frame and the bookcase.
Inspired by Scooby-Doo, this bookcase will look excellent with some stain on it, and the paint patched up. You just need a couple of tracks that met the sliding track to the side in the ceiling, a spring mount on the side opposite the door in a hidden place that will pull the door back into place, and a bookcase that you'd do this to.originalwynne5 years agoReplybig ass christmas tree! Take into consideration that the door way would have to be squared up first to prepare for the install.
