Each spoon that he makes is completely unique and has been hand carved from locally sourced wood using traditional tools and techniques.
I allow the grain to influence the design of the spoons and respond intuitively to the wood as I carve. They tend to be individuals who appreciate the beauty of wood and either keep them pristine for display or plunge them in to their cooking and kitchens for a life of service.
We caught up with Nic at his studio in South London to find out a little more about how he came to discover his talent and what is involved in the making of his spoons.
Through making the spoons I have learned a great deal about the different types woods and how to manage and sharpen the traditional hand tools used for spoon making. The London parks have many interesting trees, giving access to woods that would not commonly grow in England.
