Black rit dye on wood, build a wood and wire compost bin, oriole bird feeder plans, williamwood high school teachers - Test Out
Kilz2 Latex has a rougher, flatter finish and takes the Rit Liquid dye and Dye-na-flow better. A Bachmann On30 plastic flatcar painted with flat white acrylic craft paint and stained with black Dye-na-flow fabric paint. The tunnel portal is wood timbers and styrene sheet primered with Kilz2 acrylic primer and stained with Dye-na-flow fabric paint. After thoroughly mixing the dye with the water, I set the blocks in the solution for 5 minutes per side (10 minutes total). Since the primer is stained by a small portion of the dye, the remaining pigments can be redistributed for other effects.
To add the effect of gradual aging raw sienna drawing ink is brushed along the area representing the original wood. Originally I was using liquid Rit fabric dye, but have changed over to Dye-na-flow fabric paint. I used a different amount of dye for each color, since they kept coming out darker than what I was aiming for. To prevent any dye from seeping through and onto the table, I made sure to set up a plastic tablecloth underneath the paper towel.
The black may need to be readjusted since it is water soluble it can be reworked again and again.
I bought four colors; scarlet, orange, royal blue and yellow and dyed twelve Jenga blocks at a time. For the orange and yellow, I used two tablespoons of dye per two quarts of water, and for the red dye I only used one tablespoon of dye.
