The APL new BlueGrass Blue Concept 2 basketball shoes actually make you jump higher by 3.5 inches. The product claims that the platform at the front of the shoes will make your calves work more and increase your vertical jump. Strength and power relative to body weight is what defines your vertical jump.[5] So it makes sense that reducing the weight of your shoes (and clothes) will increase your vertical jump. Preferably, you will have shoes and clothes that are both light weight and breathe, since you don’t want sweat being retained to add excess weight.
While not related to shoes, cutting some body fat can have a significant effect on your vertical jump. Strength and power is the other half of the physics equation: your strength and power need to be increasing faster than your body weight.

Daniel has a strong interest in evidence supported fitness training, preparation and supplementation. A few years ago, Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) developed their version of the jump higher shoes, which they called the Concept 1.
In their testing the shoes provided players with an increase of 3.5 inches in their vertical, allowing athletes to jump higher for basketball, volleyball and other sports that need it. It is also for this reason that shortly after testing the shoe, the NBA banned its players from using the shoes in their games because it offered an “unfair advantage”. In a game of inches, a 3.5” increase in your jump vastly improves your rebounding ability as well as being able to shoot and drive over others not to mention on how you dunk. According to the company, their focus is to provide tat extra lift in their jump to make them more athletic in order to give them a performance edge in their sport. So what they did was put extra focus on the forefoot of the shoe which is what we use to push off the floor instead of the heel of the shoe. One thing to remember is that because the technology is built into the shoe, you only jump higher when you wear them. One last consideration is whether or not the league you’re playing in will allow you to use them. The good news is that there are some other options to basketball shoes that make you jump higher. Using jump higher shoes is definitely among the ways to jump higher, but it isn’t the only way.
Basically a Negative Foot Inclination Angle is when the heel (back of the shoe) of the shoe is lower than the fore-foot (front of the shoe).
Normally, most shoes have a thicker heel for support and cushion, just like what APL mentioned above. A study done by Eastern Michigan University tested this using shoes with -3.5 degrees inclination. Standard athletic shoes generally have a +4 degree inclination (heel is 4 degrees higher than forefoot).

In testing, the observed that the -3.5 degree shoes gave jumpers an average increase of 2 inches in jump height. The way the shoe is set up forces you to balance, run and jump solely on your forefoot, which is said to work the jumping muscles and increase leg strength. They also increase risk of injury because you’re running and jumping on a small platform with your forefoot. JumpSoles are similar to Strength Shoes but instead of supplying you with the entire shoe, their product is a strap on item that attaches a large sole on the forefoot. Because of the fore-foot sole, you’re also forced to walk, run and jump using the front part of your foot since your heel is elevated from the ground.
A study reported that a one and a half month training program using JumpSoles together with plyometric exercises did not give the users any enhancements over regular shoes.
Compared to the two jump training shoes, we prefer going the old fashioned way, doing the work. If you train on your jump, they can make you change shoes, change uniform or whatever else, you’ll still jump high. The Jump Manual is based offers all-around training (stretching, strength training, plyo training and others). They may take more work, but done properly you can see more than 8” improvements in your jump height. Have you ever tried to dunk while wearing hiking boots?Well, I once did and I nearly tore my Achilles' tendon! If you want to know why these shoes are especially great for vertical jumping and which kind of shoes are generally good for dunking then read on!
One thing I want to make absolutely clear:There are no shoes that will increase your vertical jump by 10 inches and make you look like Michael Jordan in an instant. If you can barely touch the rim right now, new shoes won't enable you to dunk all of the sudden, this takes a dedicated vertical jump training and hard work!
If you want to improve your vertical jump then read this blog post and find out how I increased my vertical jump by 8 inches last year! But if you are really close to dunking already, just choosing the right shoes can give you that extra inch that you need to throw down your first dunk! The 3 criteria for good vertical jump shoes1.
The device works in conjunction with the high-performance materials of the outsole, midsole, insole and sockliner to create an integrated, high-performance experience unlike any other basketball shoe. While the best way to achieveA higher vertical jumps is to perform vertical jump exercises and maintain a healthy diet, specialty jump shoes also help you dunk betterA by supplementing your regular workout regimen.Choosing the right jump shoes for you, however, is another matter. For basketball, volleyball and a few other sports, shoes that make you jump higher gives the player a big edge over their competitors. If you forget the shoes at home or they wear out as shoes do over time, you go back from being Superman to Clark Kent in an instant. They’ll be okay when playing among friends or a pick up game, but will officials of a recreational league or tournament give you that 3.5” jumping advantage over other players? Together with losing body fat, lightweight shoes cut down the weight your legs need to push you up. Two very notable names that make these basketball training shoes are Strength Shoes and JumpSoles. I started this blog to talk about my vertical jump training and to keep me motivated to train hard.

Tight fitYour shoes have to fit really tight if you want to get the best vertical jump results. I am absolutely in love with these shoes because they make you feel really "connected" to the court and allow me to jump higher as well as make cuts much quicker than in my previous Kobe X!
The aerodynamics of the shoe creates an optimal drag coefficient and helps position the foot to be able to realize the full benefit of the patent-pending Load ‘N Launch technology. With so many shoes available on the market all claiming to be the best of the best, which one should you choose?
Their prices have also come down to between $150 for the low cuts and about $175 for the high tops. The design of the shoe is different from regular basketball shoes because the for-foot rests on a platform. Depending on how and what you injured it may not fully heal which can affect your game going forward. Well, good news is we have done all the hard work for you.Basketball Shoes vs Jump ShoesBasketball shoes are designed specifically for those who play basketball and provide extra support around the ankles compared to regular athletic or tennis shoes. When choosing basketball shoes, you should look for those that are made with thick rubber soles. The rubber solesA support the bottom of your feet well and help reduce pressure on your heels as you practice your vertical jump and dunk. However, there is a difference between regular basketball shoes and specialtyA jump shoes.
Basketball shoes are great for practicing and playing basketball, while jump shoes help you work on one specific aspect of the game: your vertical leap. Garcia-Belenguer [Go Up ↩]Role of external support in the prevention of ankle sprains.
ATI Katapault Training Shoes allow for flexibility in your movements while practicing your dunks and they are also comfortable to wear. JG Garrick, RK Requa [Go Up ↩]Positive versus negative foot inclination for maximum height two-leg vertical jumps.
Working similarly to strength shoes, the jump sole padding is three inches thick andA elevates your heels which makes the training more demanding. Many users have reported increased vertical jump using jump soles.
So if you already have a regular pair of basketball shoes, it’s wise to invest in jump soles instead of buying a brand new pair. The great thing about jump soles is that you can use them with different pairs of shoes, so you can leave them in your gym bag and just attach them to whichever shoes you are wearing for the day.Places to Buy Affordable Jump ShoesAthletic shoe stores are the best places to buy jump shoes because these stores offer a variety, and they sell the shoes at affordable or discount prices. Another good place to purchase bargain shoes is online shoe retailers such as theA Amazon store, because sometimes they have brands or sizes of shoes that you may not find in regular shoe stores. However, they are not a substitute for regular basketball practiceA workouts and a healthy diet.
If you practice jumping everyday with your jump shoes, chances are your vertical jump will increase as well!
