USNA Civilian Faculty Service Excellence Award 2023 Recipient |
Professor Katherine Smith has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the U.S. Naval Academy's Civilian Faculty Service Excellence Award. Smith is a professor in the Economics Department. During her 19 years at USNA, Professor Smith’s service to the Academy has been notable for both its breadth and depth. She has served on a wide variety of committees both at the department and yard-wide level. The bulk of her time and effort has been spent working on the Faculty Senate, Middle-States Accreditation, the Yard-wide NARC Committee, and as Chair of the SME committee. As President of the Faculty Senate, her signature accomplishment was getting the Faculty Senate to pass a resolution to address USNA practices that perpetuate systemic racism, against the backdrop of many COVID-19 challenges. Most remarkable has been her ability to balance service to the institution with an active research agenda (with colleagues and students) as well as working to constantly find new ways to challenge her students in the classroom. |

Service Academy Career Conference (SACC) |
The Jacksonville SACC wrapped up at the end of February, and it was a great success! With over 75 companies and schools participating, many grads walked away with job offers in hand and plans to advance their education. We kicked off the event with a series of company-sponsored information sessions where candidates were able learn about each organization and ask questions. NextEra sponsored our inaugural SACC Social—a networking event for all candidates and alumni recruiters on Thursday evening. A good time was had by all! Friday commenced with a candidate breakfast and then the networking began in earnest. Not only is SACC an incredible resource for alumni to network, learn about grad school, and find new career opportunities - it is a rich source of talent for employers looking to hire. If you are considering a career transition or need to hire high-caliber talent, join us for the next SACC in DC on 11-12 May. Registration is now open! Visit our website or contact us for details.
