This post isn’t so much on recipes to make for Thanksgiving because there are tons of websites offering just that.
Thermometer – make sure your meat and poultry is done to the right internal temperature. Food mill – perfect for homemade applesauce or marinara sauce as the screen catches the skins of the apples and tomatoes. Food processor – for dough, slicing and chopping vegetables and potatoes in quantity and many other purposes. Immersion blender – useful for pureeing sauces, vegetables, stocks, soups, and potatoes in the pot itself.
Fresh herbs and seasonings – Turkey herbs, Sage, Thyme, Basil, Oregano, Garlic, lemon juice (not from a bottle!). After meal storage containers, baggies, saran and foil — have plenty available should there be leftovers that you want to share with your guests. If you are serving coffee with dessert, you can set up electric coffee makers (one decaf and one regular coffee) with grounds and water the morning of the dinner. For Thanksgiving 2013, I added a creative touch to our menu in the form of a vegetable platter in the shape of a turkey.
I am sharing this post a few weeks before Thanksgiving to give you a chance to evaluate what you have in your home now and what you might need to add to your kitchen. Get the latest Inspiring Kitchen news on our favorite finds, cooking tips, and kitchen design ideas. 122401110It might be tempting to heat the pan on high and then turn the heat down before the food goes in.
To keep food from sticking to a stainless steel pan, heat the pan just under medium heat for 2 – 3 minutes.
Once the pan has been heated, add your fat, like butter or oil, swirl it around to coat the bottom of the pan, and then add your food. This video is SO awesome – Wiselad77 shows how to cook an omelette in a stainless steel frying pan without the egg sticking!

To season your stainless steel pan, making it non-stick, here’s a little trick I learned from my favourite teacher at George Brown, Chef Field.  This will make an egg slide right out of the pan, no butter needed!
By “carefully”, I mean be careful not to burn yourself, the pan will be smoking hot! What do you mean exactly by “carefully polish the salt into the pan” for seasoning? This pan is perfect for when you’re ready to whip up a batch of spaghetti, cook a couple lobsters, or invite a group of friends over for chili during the game.
Superior heat conductivity and cooking performance with our premium tri-ply construction: Two layers of professional-grade stainless steel wrapped around a layer of aluminum. In the American Kitchen® 8-quart Stockpot, combine the sausage, peppers, onions and mushrooms; cook until sausage is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. From cooking oatmeal at breakfast time to steaming vegetables and warming soups for lunch and dinner, you’ll want this pan at your fingertips.
Whether serving your signature chili, a healthy quinoa salad, or a perfect rice pilaf to a more intimate group, this will be your go-to pan – every time. This paste can be used easily and regularly to maintain your copper but there is no need to use it after each use of your utensils. Fair compromise between the saucepan and the frying pan, the saute pan is really the utensil to choose if you can take only one!
A slight chill is in the air (although yesterday’s temp and snow are not welcomed!) and the holiday season is fast approaching. Grandmothers, aunts, cousins and of course, my Mom, have all been amazing cooks, bakers and grillers (won’t leave you out of this one, Cousin).

Everyone’s response was pretty amusing as some didn’t know if they should eat the vegetables or not! Everyone posts about foods and recipes (including me) at this time of year and no one ever talks about the tools you need. I always see the mad rush in stores as people are desperately trying to find cooking tools or serving pieces and hope to help them have a calmer (and happier) holiday season. My dad loves his roasting pan, just like the one you recommend and that turkey curditee platter – PERFECTION!
Heating the pan longer and over a lower heat allows the heat to distribute more evenly and prevents hot and cold spots. Even heating from base to rim means consistent temperatures throughout, with less stirring and scorching, and the recessed stainless steel lid nestles securely into the pan to keep juices and moisture inside, not spattered on your stovetop. Personally, I like Williams-Sonoma striped towels as I find them to be very absorbent while leaving little to no lint behind on the glasses. Add the garlic, tomatoes, wine, herbs, sugar, balsamic vinegar, salts, and pepper; simmer for 30 minutes. It’s the one time of year that family comes in from near and far to celebrate the holidays. With a good number of people attending Thanksgiving dinner, some with food allergies and some with food preferences, we have the meal down to a science. I just got a huge stainless steel 14″ Cuisinart pan and so far everything is sticking. We spend the day catching up on the happenings that have gone on throughout the year for everyone.
