Calling everyone from kids on training wheels to longtime endurance cyclists in North Carolina!  Registration is now open for the annual NC Tour de Cure fundraising event on May 16-17, 2015 in support of the American Diabetes Association.
The NC Tour de Cure is not a race, but rather a ride that encourages people of all experience levels to participate in an event to increase the level of awareness about diabetes. By joining the NC Tour, you will be joining over 65,000 cyclists across the country who have also pledged to ride in support of the Stop Diabetes movement. Start your ride from Cary, and pedal anywhere from 1-day and 10 miles up to 2-days and 200 miles. Your donation will fund many lifesaving programs, including research to prevent, manage and find a cure for diabetes.
One of the greatest things about riding in the NC Tour de Cure is the opportunity to train and get in shape.
The Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The mission of American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. DENVER (CBS4) – Millions of Americans are living with diabetes, and millions more are diagnosed as prediabetic which means they are likely to develop the disease.

Ten-year-old Sophie Steven has done the family ride for the last three years, this year she’ll be tackling the 50K. Every mile you ride and every dollar you raise will bring our community closer to finding a cure.
Whether you are an occasional rider or an experienced cyclist, there is a route just for you. The American Diabetes Association is working to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of those affected by the disease. During Tour de Cure, she and other diabetic riders wear red jerseys as part of the Red Rider program. All the money raised stays in Colorado and goes to pay for ADA programming and important research. There is an after-party which includes free food, drinks, live entertainment and activities for every age. There is also a 50K route, a 100K route, and a 100-mile route that goes all the way to Estes Park.
Each route is fully supported with SAG vehicles, rest stops with food and water, medical staff, and bike repair.

With more than 2,400 participants last year, the race raised $1.3 million for diabetes research.
Tour de Cure Associate Director Denise Nicastro said the event is open to riders of all ages and skill levels. At the kickoff dinner tonight, local radio personality Jim Steele will be a guest speaker and will also return in 2015 as a “Red Rider.” Steele said he will speak about his experiences of living with Type 1 diabetes for the past 37 years and his participation in the event. So I participated in the Tour de Cure for two years now, and in my third year I have an added motivation in that I’ll be riding with and for my daughter.” As diabetes becomes a more common disease, Steele, who this year will participate on a team called “Sweet Broadcasters,” reflected on the eagerness of riders in the Capital Region to participate.
You can’t look at someone and tell that they’re diabetic, but you know from hearing stories in the workplace and people that you meet on a regular basis, you just find that it’s all over,” said Steele.
