School of Law Assistant Director of Career Services and Professional Development Vanita (Saleema) Snow, '97, and several other alumnae came out to support the Advocates for Justice and Education's (AJE) annual 5K Walk and Roll Against Bullying on September 21. EBCLC’s Education, Defense & Justice for Youth (EDJY) program represents young people caught at the intersection of the juvenile justice and education systems.
EDJY is comprised of two clinics: the Youth Defender Clinic and the Education Advocacy Clinic. EDJY provides holistic representation to young people who are at risk of entering, or who are currently involved in, the juvenile justice system in Alameda County.
The NIWH program provides today’s most cutting edge, evidence-based health information for patient health information, disease prevention and non-clinical resources which invites self-care and shared decision making. Each learner works with an Academic Adviser who is a credentialed medical or education professional and completed the NIWH Whole Health training.
This exciting, cost effective continuing education program contains 18 courses which address the most urgent issues in healthcare today.
This on-line, video streamed professional continuing education program is an exceptional value. A learner may also elect to test-out for the national Chronic Care Professional certification after completing the program. Rochanda Hiligh-Thomas has over 20 years of direct legal experience working in the District of Columbia’s legal services community.
She obtained her Bachelor’s degree with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University, earned her law degree from Howard University School of Law and is pursing a Master’s degree in Education Policy.  Ms.
EDJY attorneys and advocates in both clinics work together to provide support and representation in delinquency, school expulsion, and special education matters. EDJY aims to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline by addressing the multitude of interrelated issues that impact many young people’s ability to thrive.
The program is 250 hours in length, which includes 150 course clock hours, plus an additional 100 hours of proctored exam and case study requirements for completion.

Hiligh-Thomas was the Assistant Director for Legal Operations at the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP).
Hiligh-Thomas is a native Washingtonian and graduate of a District of Columbia public high school.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Tuskegee University and a law degree from the District of Columbia School of Law. Blaeuer works with schools and families to ensure that students receive the best education possible under the law. In her current role as Director of Parent and Youth Engagement, she manages various education and health projects providing direct services, support and leadership training to parents and youth in the District of Columbia.
A social worker and social work students are also part of our practice, allowing us to better address our clients’ and their families’ needs. Delinquency system involvement is often deeply entwined with challenges at school, unstable or unsafe housing, immigration complications, and inadequate income. Hard copy handouts, abstracts, current evidence-based research and individual course assignment templates are provided. The courses provide approved professional continuing education contact hours for nurses, nutritionists, mental health professionals, health educators and more.
She brings a unique perspective to this role, having participated in the IEP and special education process as a student with an IEP herself, as a teacher of students with disabilities, as a parent, and now at AJE, as an attorney for students and families. Logan holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Pedology, the study of the behavior and development of children and adolescence.
Stevens is a young adult who participated in AJE’s Transition Advocacy Project (TAP) as a school-age youth. Walker is a former participant of AJE’s Transition Advocacy Project where he received leadership training to become a self-advocate to ensure a successful transition from school to adulthood. By connecting clients with the multiple civil legal services offered at EBCLC, EDJY offers young people – and their families and caregivers – seamless access to many legal and social services under one roof.

Consortium of Legal Services Providers and has been reappointed by Mayor Bowser as a parent member of the State Advisory Panel on Special Education. Mata provides one-on-one assistance, training and emotional support to Latino families to ensure their children receive appropriate education and health services. Truong also facilitates monthly trainings, workshops and support groups for parents and youth to empower and increase their ability to become effective advocates.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Washington and Lee University, a Master of Social Work from Boston College, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the District of Columbia David A.
Hiligh-Thomas provides training on educational matters involving school discipline, special education and other educational rights to parents, youth, school staff and other professionals. She also leads outreach efforts to immigrant communities to support newly settled families with navigating resources and systems of support.
Stevens provides advice to youth with special needs on how to successfully transition from school to adult-life. She began her professional career in advocacy for students with special education needs in 2011 while attending the David A. He also advocates for the needs of young people by participating in stakeholder meetings and communicating with policymakers. In 2015, she was appointed by Mayor Bowser to serve on the District of Columbia State Rehabilitation Council. She’s also a graduate of Howard University where she earned a Master of Science degree in Social Work. He is currently enrolled at the University of the District of Columbia seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Foreign Languages.
