Faulding® Probiotics IBS Support may assist in the symptomatic relief and management of medically diagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and sores, called ulcers, in the inner lining of the large intestine, which includes the colon and the rectum. The inflammation causes erosion of the lining of the colon, leading to bleeding, production of pus, sudden & frequent diarrhea, and severe abdominal discomfort. Ulcerative colitis affects more than 1 in every 1,000 Americans and mostly starts between the ages of 15 and 30.
In my case, an abscessed tailbone, MASS amounts of heavy duty antibiotics, a surgery, post-partum related hormones, having another autoimmune disease, and exposure to toxic mold all within a very short timeframe caused a train wreck inside my body. I choose not to wear a diaper and instead, I made sure I knew EVERY single tree I could hide behind, bush I could crawl into, large boulder I could sneak around, infrequently traveled pathways, and of course public restroom. I also had it down to a science how much time I had between the distinctive “gurgle” and accompanying shooting pain and when I needed to drop trough and hit the latrine. When I say “do what needed to be done” it is important to highlight that YOU LOOSE ALL ABILITY TO CONTROL YOUR BOWEL FUNCTIONS when you have an ulcerative colitis flare. I stopped going to my appointments and instead decided to work with Lydia, a nutritional therapist who literally was my female knight in shining armor. Of course I was on a host of other supportive short term supplements as well as practicing very, very clean eating. While many people are familiar with the general term “probiotics,” most do not understand the importance of knowing which specific strain of organism should be used for which specific disease or condition.
Probiotics work in three areas of the gut: the microbial barrier, chemical barrier and physical barrier. VSL#3 is a high-potency probiotic medical food that is clinically proven in the dietary management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis (UC), and ileal pouch.
VSL#3 is at least 10 times more potent than the average probiotic and differs from other probiotics in that it is a medical food, not a supplement, and therefore must be used under medical supervision. While I myself did not use VSL#3, I wouldn’t hesitate to turn to this in the unfortunate event of another flare. I thoroughly vetted this product and the company and I have no doubt that VSL#3 works as well as they say it does.

The scoby bacteria and yeast eat most of the sugar in the tea, transforming the tea into a refreshingly fizzy, slightly sour fermented (but mostly non-alcoholic) beverage that is relatively low in calories and sugar. There are a lot of theories about why the bacteria and yeast form this jelly-like layer of cellulose at the top of the kombucha. While the home-brewed nature of kombucha makes some home cooks nervous, it's unlikely that kombucha will ever make you sick. Like all things, you need to use common sense when brewing it and pay attention to what you're doing. Note: Avoid prolonged contact between the kombucha and metal both during and after brewing.
Add the starter tea: Once the tea is cool, remove the tea bags or strain out the loose tea. Transfer to jars and add the scoby: Pour the mixture into a 1-gallon glass jar (or divide between two 2-quart jars, in which case you'll need 2 scobys) and gently slide the scoby into the jar with clean hands.
Ferment for 7 to 10 days: Keep the jar at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, and where it won't get jostled.
It's not unusual for the scoby to float at the top, bottom, or even sideways during fermentation.
After 7 days, begin tasting the kombucha daily by pouring a little out of the jar and into a cup.
Remove the scoby: Before proceeding, prepare and cool another pot of strong tea for your next batch of kombucha, as outlined above.
Bottle the finished kombucha: Measure out your starter tea from this batch of kombucha and set it aside for the next batch. Carbonate and refrigerate the finished kombucha: Store the bottled kombucha at room temperature out of direct sunlight and allow 1 to 3 days for the kombucha to carbonate. Covering for the jar: Cheesecloth is not ideal because it's easy for small insects, like fruit flies, to wiggle through the layers.
Batch Size: To increase or decrease the amount of kombucha you make, maintain the basic ratio of 1 cup of sugar, 8 bags of tea, and 2 cups starter tea per gallon batch. Putting Kombucha on Pause: If you'll be away for 3 weeks or less, just make a fresh batch and leave it on your counter. Other Tea Options: Black tea tends to be the easiest and most reliable for the scoby to ferment into kombucha, but once your scoby is going strong, you can try branching out into other kinds. Avoid Prolonged Contact with Metal: Using metal utensils is generally fine, but avoid fermenting or bottling the kombucha in anything that brings them into contact with metal. Kombucha will start off with a neutral aroma and then smell progressively more vinegary as brewing progresses.
To prolong the life and maintain the health of your scoby, stick to the ratio of sugar, tea, starter tea, and water outlined in the recipe. If you're ever in doubt about whether there is a problem with your scoby, just continue brewing batches but discard the kombucha they make. If you read this site often you know I believe fad diets are for the birds, but what about the latest trend of eliminating gluten or glutinous grains (wheat, oats etc) from your diet (known as the Paleo diet)? Gluten is the large protein molecule in doughs that creates that gooey elasticity when wet. It has been stated that anywhere from 6-12% (and some think as high as 40%!) of the population has a gluten or gliadin sensitivity or intolerance which is a spectrum of disorders ranging from celiac disease to wheat allergies and autoimmune disorders. For these people there is a clear connection between what they eat in the form of gluten and some of the symptoms described above. Our psychology says no gluten = good for me so we purchase food free of it and consume more.
The reason so many are now claiming to have issues with gluten is because of the quality of the grains they are eating. What we see is that our food system has taken us far, far away from how food has traditionally been prepared. Without this soaking or fermentation process the burden caused by eating larger amounts of gluten, gliadin, lectins and phytic acid is gut inflammation. I also realize that grains are everywhere and given our current system challenging to eliminate 100%. Gluten in and of itself isn’t necessarily evil but the lack of preparation of grains these days can be detrimental to overall health. If you have any condition triggered by gluten and have been diagnosed celiacs OR have an auto immune disease you’re best to avoid at all costs.
Choosing a diet composed of high quality fats, proteins, vegetables and fruits will provide all the nutrients and then some that many claim are only obtained through grains. Reading about fermented grains reminded me of a movie we watched on Netflix recently called How Beer Saved The World (Netflix has some great documentaries on the food system). I study and practice things to do to keep our adrenal glands functioning at a healthy rate.

3 Simple Exercises For Super Human Muscle9,720 viewsAre you using these for huge gains in muscle? By Black Chiropractic Group On December 2, 2014 · Add Comment What we think of today as “alternative” or “complementary” medicine used to be all the medicine there was.

Western medical science only developed as rationalism and empiricism began to be the norm for explaining phenomena. As medical science improved and medical technology developed, the traditional medicine practiced by healers became regarded as superstition or magic or faith healing. The question is, why is there a resurgence in popularity of alternative or complementary medicine? Increasingly, science is able to name diseases for which medical science has no cure or treatment just yet. Medical science has proven that cervical cancer is widely caused by an infection of the human papilloma virus. In fact, no one knows for sure what causes cancer, how cancer is contracted or how it grows and develop rapidly. Despite these advances in treatment of cancer, more and more people are contracting cancer. Groups of people are living with cancer as there is no known cure for their type of cancer and all that medication can do is mitigate the symptoms. It is the concerns of these groups that have spurred on the resurgence of complementary and alternative medicine. Also, some treatments for diseases, such as, cancer destroy healthy cells alongside cancer cells. They make drastic changes in their lifestyles: they lose weight, they shift from a meat-based diet to a plant-based diet. Along with these lifestyle changes, they have taken to alternative medical practices, such as acupuncture, aromatherapy and homeopathy. Perhaps it is too far-fetched to claim that disappointment with Western medicine has prompted people to turn to alternative medicine. Chiropractic is the most widely used form of natural therapy in the world, and is suitable for people of all ages, from babies to the aged! Our scientific method creates a protective barrier for the probiotics, keeping them alive and stable, even out of the fridge! The strain of bacteria used in Faulding® Probiotics IBS Support, Lactobacillus plantarum, has been shown to help relieve pain and flatulence associated with medically diagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
That near two year period of my life was nothing short of physical, mental, and emotional hell. IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and Chrons are two “cousins” of colitis that are more widely mentioned. It really was the perfect storm of events and I am surprised that it took as long as it did for my first and only flare to happen. 2 year olds don’t understand or care that mommy can’t really leave the bathroom let alone the house. But really, an intense, therapeutic dose of probiotics is what allowed my gut to fight back against ulcerative colitis.
It is easy to grab a probiotic off the shelf but in no way, shape, or form are probiotics created equal. It is suggested that adults should take at least one billion cells (also called colony-forming units or CFU’s) daily and even more when a chronic condition is present. And while it worked, I can only imagine what might have happened had I had access to a high-potency probiotic medical food like VSL #3. It is a proprietary formulation of a mix of 8 strains of live lactic acid bacteria, making it one of the few probiotics with this many strains.
All formulations require refrigeration to preserve potency and are gluten free, Kosher and Halal certified.
In fact, if my colitis did rear its ugly head, you can bet I will have my provider order this in bulk for me. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.

It wasn't really the probiotics or other health promises that did it for me — although I'll take those, too! The most plausible that I've found is that it protects the fermenting tea from the air and helps maintain a very specific environment inside the jar that is shielded from outsiders, aka unfriendly bacteria. Kombucha is indisputably full of probiotics and other happy things that our intestines love and that help boost our overall health. It is usually no more than 1%, so unless you drink several glasses back to back, you should be just fine. It looks long and complicated, but this is actually a very straightforward and streamlined process. Cover the mouth of the jar with a few layers tightly-woven cloth, coffee filters, or paper towels secured with a rubber band. A new cream-colored layer of scoby should start forming on the surface of the kombucha within a few days. When it reaches a balance of sweetness and tartness that is pleasant to you, the kombucha is ready to bottle. Pour the fermented kombucha (straining, if desired) into bottles using the small funnel, along with any juice, herbs, or fruit you may want to use as flavoring.
Until you get a feel for how quickly your kombucha carbonates, it's helpful to keep it in plastic bottles; the kombucha is carbonated when the bottles feel rock solid. Combine the starter tea from your last batch of kombucha with the fresh batch of sugary tea, and pour it into the fermentation jar. Use a few layers of tightly woven cloth (like clean napkins or tea towels), coffee filters, or paper towels, to cover the jar, and secure it tightly with rubber bands or twine.
It will likely be too vinegary to drink by the time you get back, but the scoby will be fine. Metals, especially reactive metals like aluminum, can give the kombucha a metallic flavor and weaken the scoby over time.
If it starts to smell cheesy, rotten, or otherwise unpleasant, this is a sign that something has gone wrong.
Sanitary napkins contain pure lactobacillus culture which colonizes and stabilizes vaginal environment.Probiotics reduce the pH of tissue which the sanitary napkin is in contact with. When someone with this intolerance or sensitivity eats food containing gluten they have a inflammatory type response to the proteins causing a host of reactions. It seems to be a catch all for anyone experiencing unwanted side effects from the food they eat. We jump on this bandwagon but still wonder why we don’t see the health results we are seeking. They are highly processed, provide very little nutrition and potentially create an environment not suitable for peak health (inflammation, fatigue etc).
Do you hear of other heavily gluten-based cultures having such large issues with gluten intolerance? Back when grains were always soaked, sprouted or fermented prior to consumption reducing the burden of anti nutrients present like phytic acid, rendering them more digestible by the body.
This chronic inflammation disrupts our precious gut micro flora throwing our whole bodily system off balance and creating a potential environment for various genetic tendencies to be expressed.
Even though many of these issues happen on at an unconscious level only you know what is best suited for you. Doctors were not educated at universities, instead, they apprenticed with an established doctor. In fact, what used to be regarded as the medical arts was not regarded as “science” until after a more scientific cause for disease and infection was established by scientists like Louis Pasteur. Admission into the medical profession is only through a standardized examination and only after undergoing training and internship. To be sure, the alternative and complementary medicine of today have their roots in traditional healing arts, but they are different in that they have a scientific base. Groups of people survive cancer and want to regain a sense of well-being and a feeling of wellness despite their cancer diagnosis.
There are some doctors who agree that plants and other natural food sources have medicinal properties, but, they still will not agree that alternative medicine can heal sickness.
Some effects of chemotherapy drugs are permanent nerve damage and this results in chronic pain, weakness and fatigue in a lot of patients.
These therapies will not cure their cancer, but, they will make them feel more whole. It makes them feel better. It is far-fetched to claim as well that alternative medicine can ever totally replace Western medical science.

Faulding® Probiotics IBS Support helps in maintaining healthy digestive microflora and supports and maintains the health of the gastrointestinal tract and the immune system.
But I carried on, parented a two year old, and pretended that life was sunshine and glitter. There were many, many times in that 20 month period that I was lucky to just get my pants down.
And from my personal experience using a much less potent probiotic, I can say with confidence that VSL#3 has everything a destroyed, diseased gut needs to return to optimal health. It was the way it tasted: like tart green apple mixed with sour stone fruits, but with an underlying sweetness that keeps it all together.
It floats, it's rubbery and a bit slippery, brown stringy bits hang from it, and it transforms sugary tea into something fizzy and sour.
I think of it as the mobile home for friendly bacteria and yeast, happily traveling from jar to jar of kombucha. Claims that kombucha cures things like arthritis, depression, and heart burn have less of a proven track record, but hey, our bodies are all different and I say go for it if it works for you. However, people with alcohol sensitivities or who avoid alcohol for other reasons should be aware of its presence. Once you get into the rhythm of it, bottling a finished batch of kombucha and preparing the next only takes about 20 minutes every seven to 10 days. Refrigerate to stop fermentation and carbonation, and then consume your kombucha within a month.
For longer breaks, store the scoby in a fresh batch of the tea base with starter tea in the fridge. Herbal teas are okay, but be sure to use at least a few bags of black tea in the mix to make sure the scoby is getting all the nutrients it needs. If your scoby develops a hole, bumps, dried patches, darker brown patches, or clear jelly-like patches, it is still fine to use. If you see no signs of mold on the scoby, discard the liquid and begin again with fresh tea.
This can be discarded, composted, used to start a new batch of kombucha, or given to a friend to start their own.
If it's just a natural aspect of the scoby, then it will stay consistent from batch to batch and the kombucha is fine for drinking. An unique combination of a sanitary towel and probiotic culture will help you in fight against yeast infection! Symptoms may include gas, bloating, lethargy, ADD or ADHD and other psychological disorders, dermatitis and joint pain, inflammation of the gut wall and more.
Beyond that there are other anti-nutrients in grains such as lectins, phytates and more that could be posing health issues. These would include things like fresh sourdough breads made with wild active yeasts or porridge that sat overnight in whey, lemon juice or miso.
The continuing inflammation also wreaks havoc on our immune system, which is heavily centered in the gut, creating a rebound effect of auto immune disorders as a byproduct of the ongoing initial inflammation. It’s really hard to predict how much even one exposure to gluten and other grain inhibitors could really effect our health but many studies have been done on those with celiac.
They learned how to make diagnosis and prepare medications in the form of ointments, syrups, teas and poultices. From then on, medicine has only regarded practices and treatments that are based upon scientific facts and scientific research and reasoning. The discovery, formulation and testing of drugs, therapies and treatments are also highly regulated by law and by government agencies. It has been proved that the virus that causes Hepatitis B infection will also lead to the development of liver cancer.
The earlier that cancer is detected, the earlier the cancer can be excised through surgery or, the earlier that chemotherapy and radiation can quickly eliminate the growing and developing cancer cells. As cancer can be detected earlier and treatments are effective in eliminating growing cancer cells, more and more people have been diagnosed with cancer and receive treatments for it. For this reason, there is a growing number of cancer patients who may agree to surgery to remove cancers or tumours, but they refuse radiotherapy or chemotherapy and opt for alternative medicine instead. It alleviates some symptoms while at the same time, making their bodies strong enough to be able to heal itself and to fight disease naturally. It also helps to maintain and improve general wellbeing. This dairy free product can also help ease and prevent diarrhoea.
I simply disassociated myself from the humiliation and hoped people didn’t catch on to my bathroom shenanigans. In addition, it can colonize the gastrointestinal tract with beneficial bacteria, reduce gas and bloating from IBS and maintain remission in UC or an ileal pouch. If you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition, or are taking any medication, please consult your physician. You may also see brown stringy bits floating beneath the scoby, sediment collecting at the bottom, and bubbles collecting around the scoby. Usually these are all indicative of changes in the environment of your kitchen and not a problem with the scoby itself. If you do see signs of mold, discard both the scoby and the liquid and begin again with new ingredients. Probiotics restrict rise of undesirable bacteria, which get into the sanitary napkin during its use, and create optimum environment for rise of lactobacilli. Many have linked this intolerance to having a large genetic influence as well as being a form of pre-existing auto-immune disease. We would also use grains that were allowed to get wet from sitting in the fields letting naturally soak prior to processing into flours. These studies show that even a single ingestion can produce an immune response that persists for up to 6 months!
On occasion go ahead and enjoy the bun on that burger or have a nice bowl of oats, but just pay attention to how you feel and pay attention to the minimal effective amount (mEA) that you need. But there is no vaccine that will effectively keep a person from contracting these kinds of cancer. Even so, there is no guarantee that the cancer will not recur or that it will not spread to other parts of the body.
Faulding® Probiotics can also balance bacteria levels that can be disrupted through medication. You probably will get a lot of blank looks of head shakes of confusion when you mention you have it. When they do, they have to know where a bathroom is and it must be within a 10 second sprinting distance. It honestly only took about 8 weeks for me to be back to “normal.” And really, I was not experiencing so many humiliating moments after just a couple of weeks on Lydia’s protocol.
