Study Shows Daily Use Of Pycnogenol® Can Improve Memory, Focus, Decision-Making And Mood Natural pine bark extract found to help boost overall cognitive performance including attention span and coping with stress in healthy professionals. Pycnogenol(R) is a natural plant extract originating from the bark of the maritime pine that grows along the coast of southwest France and is found to contain a unique combination of procyanidins, bioflavonoids and organic acids, which offer extensive natural health benefits. In the study conducted at the Italian Chieti-Pescara University, researchers treated and monitored 107 patients between the ages of 35 and 55 who were diagnosed with Meniere's disease and suffering from symptoms like tinnitus. This study confirms previous findings from the catalog of research on tinnitus and inner-ear ailments including a 2010 study that found Pycnogenol® to be effective to significantly relieve tinnitus symptoms by improving blood flow in the inner ear. Millions of Americans with hissing, whooshing, or ringing ears may find relief with daily supplements of pine bark extract, according to research published in the peer-reviewed journal, Panminerva Medica.
Findings by the Italian research team report that taking 150 mg of brand name Pycnogenol once day for 4 weeks relieved ear noise, or tinnitus, better than taking 100 mg of the extract or none at all. People with tinnitus perceive sounds that don’t actually exist, a problem that science suggests is linked to poor circulation to the inner ear.

Some sufferers report success with a daily 200 mg dose of gingko biloba, another nonprescription and widely available product sold online and in retail stores. Approximately 2-3 million Americans experience tinnitus in a severe chronic and debilitating form that interferes with sleep concentration and the ability to perform effectively in the workplace.
More than seven million people in Britain are believed to suffer from the condition, which causes a ringing or hissing sound in the ear.The study, conducted by the Chieti-Pescara University in Italy, monitored 82 patients with tinnitus in only one ear. All patients were managed with best available management (BM) which included anticholinergics, benzodiazepines, antihistamines, corticosteroids, low salt diet and avoidance of caffeine, alcohol or other stimulants. At baseline, flow velocity at the level of the affected ear was significantly lower in comparison with the other ear showing cochlear hypoperfusion. Both within and beyond the cochlear nucleus these readjustments were found to tip the normal balance of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to neurons toward the side of excitation. Researchers found that nearly 90 percent of patients were free of all inner-ear-related symptoms within six months of supplementing with Pycnogenol®.

The latest study has found that Pycnogenol can help to relieve tinnitus symptoms by improving blood flow in the inner ear.
They advised more research be carried out on the supplement, which has been on the market for 40 years.Extracts from the bark of the pine tree were first used by the native American Indians hundreds of years ago. Results were recorded based on observational and reported scales for symptoms such as tinnitus, feeling of pressure and unsteady gait.
