Chronic fatigue syndrome mental illness, effects of insomnia during pregnancy - Test Out

Wessely is the notorious psychiatrist who treats ME like it is a mental illness, and who made the life millions of very sick people even more unbearable. I have yet to see a mental illness cause the abnormal results of SPECT brain scan done on me when I was first diagnosed with ME. My opinion is that there is a physical illness with a physical cause and depression is a secondary effect. I think a virus may well have been the root cause of my illness and that it caused damage to the body's respiratory system at a cellular level. I think it is very dangerous for anyone to conclude that this is a mental health illness because it means they will stop looking for the REAL illness and cure.
Like I said, it's very dangerous to write this off as a mental health problem as the real cause may be overlooked.
Think about this for a second; according to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) 1 in 4 people, or 25% of American adults, will be diagnosed with a mental illness this year.

This, of course, speaks to the stigma surrounding mental illness, which is something Mental Illness Awareness Week aims to change.

Since 1990, the first week of October has been recognized as National Mental Illness Awareness Week by the U.S. Here at PatientsLikeMe, we have thousands of patients sharing their experiences with more than a dozen mental health conditions, including 7,699 patients who report major depressive disorder and 1,638 patients who report postpartum depression.
If you look at the medical definition of post viral fatigue syndrome you will find its the same as me and CFS. If you happened to meet anyone, ANYONE with ME, it would be immediately clear that it has nothing to do with mental illness, and the bundle of quite physical symptoms and faulty blood test results is due to an undiagnosed physical illness. CBT would be helpful in helping cope with the stress and strain of the illness, but in my professional opinion could not cure it. And also since when did a mental illness cause blood chemistry changes, such as elevated ESR ( measure of inflammation in the body) and raised neutrophils (either infection or autoimmune response). According to NAMI, “A mental illness is a medical condition that disrupts a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning. Congress has recognized the week of October 6th as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), and if you or anyone you know is living with a mental health or neurological condition, it’s time to raise awareness and share your experiences. For starters, MIAW coincides with National Depression Screening Day on October 10th, and you can find out more information about various screenings on the Screening for Mental Health website.

In a poll we conducted earlier this year, we discovered that patients with a mental health condition are, along with HIV patients, the least likely to share their diagnosis with others. This dumb article actually asks what is the difference if the cause is psychiatric or not: well, imagine you had a heart condition, maybe heart failure, and instead of bringing you to first aid and give you medicines for your heart they brought you to the psychiatric department, fed you with tranquilizers and antidepressants, and then force you to exercise twice a day, and we are not event to mention the different forms of abuse that still plague most psychiatric institutions. If I over exert, and you don't realise you are over exerting until several hours later, I have a crash of exhaustion and fatigue which can last for several days to weeks.

I know all about psychiatric conditions and what makes me so mad is that it isn't a mental health problem or a psychological problem. And so for 7 days, October 5th to 11th, we’ll be spreading the word for Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). MIAW is about recognizing the effects of every condition and learning what it’s like to live day-to-day with a mental illness. Just because a xmrv virus has nothing do with the illness doesn't mean that its possibly a mental illness. I got a viral infection two years ago that turned into post-viral fatigue and then chronic fatigue syndrome.
Other illness over the years were also classified as mental illnesses because when no real answers are found this is the easiest diagnosis to give a patient. By writing this unintelligent and insulting article you are deliberately focusing again on the stigma that surrounded the illness in years before.
