Ohmmmm…Meditation as a natural remedy for hot flashes has been scientifically shown to reduce or diminish the severity of hot flashes and night sweats.
Doctors Carmody, Crawford, and Churchill from the Division of Preventative and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School did a small pilot study called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Hot Flashes. There are a lot of different approaches to meditation as a treatment for hot flashes and there are many ways to learn how to do it.
Below are resources to make your practice easier – yoga mats, meditation cushions, and yoga clothing. You may need to put a meditation cushion under your bottom in order to sit on the floor for any length of time. Since you are meditating on the floor you may want to put a yoga mat under the meditation pillow to cushion your ankle bones and keep your cushion clean, and also those new yoga clothes you just purchased! I get cold when I sit for any length of time so I use a very large meditation shawl that covers my entire body. Anything you do on a daily basis, like walking, gardening, or writing in a journal, is a form of meditation. We’ve found some really beautiful yoga attire—perfect for meditation, also makes you look good grocery shopping! Also, doubles as a foot rest while watching TV but we don’t really want you to go there! It will help you get rid of those terrible hot flashes and night sweats and then you can use that ice bucket for Champagne! Coping with those hot flashes became so much easier that they put their ice buckets away to use for their next wine and cheese party.
