Research from Elsevier studied gym-goers and non-exercisers and discovered the two groups react quite differently when shown images of muscular male models.
Non-exercisers expressed negative sentiments concerning their bodies, while gym-goers showed significantly less remorse.


In fact, the latter group reported an increase in motivation when shown photos of the muscular ideal.
