The animals I would add to my medicine wheel would be, dolphin in the red space for water, eagle in the white space for air, dogs in the yellow for fire, and snakes in black for earth.

Many of my friends and colleagues are using the ancient Polynesian healing and forgiveness prayer known as Ho?oponopono.
So If one single person behaved criminally then the whole family, clan and village felt they were responsible for that behaviour.
Those three lines are the heart of the prayer as the community took full responsibility for one individual’s aberrant actions.
Of course in essence the actual words do not matter as long as the sentiment is sincere and real. I was originally introduced to Ho’oponopono by Dr Ihaleakala Hew Len in an evening talk in Glastonbury two decades ago.
I have just finished your commentary on the Polynesain Praryer, I am responsible, I am sorry, Please Forgive me, There is only love.
Each of these incredibly rare and beautiful Native American portraits areA of women and girls between the last 1800s and the early 1900s.
Although Native American women often had different roles than the men they were greatly respected.

In my opinion many of the recent versions are tending to miss the point and the true power of the prayer. I write this only because I have witnessed a tendency for modern people to misunderstand and even avoid the element of responsibility which is the heart and soul and efficacy of the prayer — and also its miraculous power of grace.
If one accepts that there are many types of subtle energies in action all the time, I would include that types of sound, setting aside the intention behind them, do play a contributory role. The images have been well preserved and it gives us a tiny window into the past where we can admire these women, their unique style, and show respect for their lives.
They often had the same sorts of rights at the men in their tribe which is incredible for the time period. While it was typical for a chief to be male there were some tribes that would have the women select who he would be. I want to know how they communicate with each other, how they are so smart to be able to understand us, and how I can learn from them.

Language has, I believe, grown out of the effect of the sound and subtle variations of vibration created when words are spoken and I believe there is an inextricable link between them. The core power rests in the spiritual courage and moral generosity to take true responsibility.
If I look at it more gently and see it as -- I am able to be responsible, to see my connection in the wheel of life, to see how I might respond to this rather than react to it-- then I feel an opening. It is also at the core of the Christian action of turning the other cheek and Buddhist compassion. Say a nasty word in a nasty way and it is clear what the intention is, but say a nice word in a nasty way and I think it loses its impact. Then I can say --however this came about and how ever my being contributed to it,  I am truly sorry-- sorry that there was pain created, sorry that there was suffering, sorry that at the time I was not aware-enough to recognize it -please forgive me.
All these supposed faults and errors and angers are kind of miscreant, misguided energies, bumps along the road-- though they can seem horrifying at times. But they are not the deepest reality and we do not have to feel crushed or weighted down or forlorn.
