Prostate cancer and health-related quality of life

The Gleason scale, developed by physician Donald Gleason in the 1960s, provides a score that helps predict the aggressiveness of prostate cancer.
As the fastest growing consumer health information site a€” with 65 million monthly visitors a€” Healthlinea€™s mission is to be your most trusted ally in your pursuit of health and well-being. This line chart plots lung cancer death rates from 1975-2000, under the three scenarios discussed in a paper by researchers supported by the National Cancer Institute. Twentieth-century tobacco control programs and policies were responsible for preventing more than 795,000 lung cancer deaths in the United States from 1975 through 2000, according to an analysis funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health. If all cigarette smoking in this country had ceased following the release of the first Surgeon General's report on smoking and health in 1964, a total of 2.5 million people would have been spared from death due to lung cancer in the 36 years following that report, according to the analysis. The researchers, part of the NCI-sponsored Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET), utilized a comparative modeling approach in which they constructed detailed cigarette smoking histories for individuals born from 1890 through 1970, and then related the histories to lung cancer mortality in mathematical models. The difference between lung cancer deaths in the no tobacco control scenario and the numbers of actual lung cancer deaths provided an estimate of the numbers of lung cancer deaths averted as a result of tobacco control activities. Similarly, the difference between the no tobacco control scenario and the complete tobacco control scenario provides an estimate of the lung cancer deaths that could have been avoided if everyone who smoked quit in 1965 and no one started smoking. The researchers estimations only run through the year 2000 because, for more recent years, sufficiently detailed data were unavailable when the project began. In 2011, researchers conducting the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) found that screening heavy smokers with low-dose spiral CT reduced lung cancer mortality by 20 percent, compared to standard chest X-ray. CISNET is a consortium of NCI-sponsored investigators who use statistical modeling to improve our understanding of cancer control interventions in prevention, screening, and treatment.
The results discussed in the paper are based on six different models, developed by members of the CISNET network.

An American Cancer Society study has credited anti-smoking campaigns with reducing the number of annual cancer deaths in the United States. A study led by researchers at the University of California, San Diego shows that California's 40 year-long tobacco control program has resulted in lung cancer rates that are nearly 25 percent lower than other states. Canada's tobacco manufacturers and importers on Tuesday were given until March 2012 to adopt new austere warning labels on cigarette packages featuring a woman dying of lung cancer.
Scientists at Lancaster University have shed light on the metabolic switch observed in abnormal cells like cancer. Here's one more reason to consider cutting back on the soda: drinking too many sugary drinks on a daily basis has been linked to gallbladder cancer. Cancer is a disease of our genes - yet our understanding of how our genetic makeup affects our risk of cancer is still rudimentary.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer deaths, accounting for about a third of all tumor-related deaths. A team of Mayo Clinic researchers has identified evidence of bacteria in sterilely-obtained breast tissue and found differences between women with and without breast cancer.
The outburst of sexual energy from your vagina, leaving you throbbing with pleasure and satisfaction, is what would be called an orgasm in general terminology. In order to remain fit, you need to take up some form of cardiovascular activity, so that you could burn those extra calories. Orgasm is often called “little death”, what exactly it means is that an orgasm has anti-aging properties and can increase your life span. Believe it or not, but it is a proven fact that an orgasm 3 to 4 times a week reduces the risk of heart attack and cancer by half. Oxytocin hormone produced during orgasm increases the endorphins level in the body thus bringing in a decline in headaches, arthritis pain, PMS symptoms.

We treat bladder infections, kidney infections and urinary tract infections in men and women. The causes of frequent UTI (bladder and kidney urinary tract infections) differ between men and women. Please bring with you results of any prior studies, tests, surgeries or procedures you have had.
Common reasons for the surgery include prostate cancer and enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Both of which will support, guide, and inspire you toward the best possible health outcomes for you and your family.
The results of this study were published online March 14, 2012, in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Using these models, the researchers were able to estimate the impact of changes in smoking patterns resulting from tobacco control activities on lung cancer deaths during the period from 1975 through 2000. In the first, called actual tobacco control, they used data on actual smoking behaviors of men and women in the United States.
This difference is graphically represented in two charts accompanying this release, based on data from Yale University, which created one of the models used in this analysis. If tobacco control efforts had been completely successful, an additional 1.7 million lung cancer deaths would have been averted from 1975 through 2000. However, it can be inferred that additional lung cancer deaths have been averted since the year 2000, because according to previous research, smoking rates among U.S.
Even with the potential mortality benefits associated with screening, continued implementation of evidence-based tobacco control policies, programs, and services remains a critical approach to reducing the burden of lung cancer, according to the authors. This modeling approach, which has been validated in several previous studies, can be used to guide public health research and priorities. Sex and orgasm has loads of benefits, and it actually can be called a holistic exercise as it works on your body, mind and soul.
According to a scientific study, a healthy orgasm, produces chemicals called phenylethylamine and endorphins, which are responsible for enhancing the mood and relieving anxiety, tension, stress and depression. So here it is, sex and orgasm could take you to the level of an aerobic activity increasing your heart rate. The hormone produced during orgasm, DHEA- works on your sexual stimuli which in turn increases your excitement level. Men who masturbate and ejaculate regularly have very less chances of developing prostate cancer. People who participated more in sexual activities and achieved more orgasms responded better to stress management than the people who refrained from it. When you recognize the fact that gives you an angelic satisfaction on physical and mental level doesn’t only help you to grow as a person but it makes you more generous towards the need of others and especially towards your partner also. Orgasm, also known as the sexual climax, produces DHEA, which improves the immune system, cardiovascular system, regulates fat metabolism, works as an anti aging agent, balances the nervous system, and provides a healthy skin. Oftentimes they are related to incomplete bladder emptying, enlarged prostate and can be associated with kidney stones or bladder stones. Alex Shteynshlyuger is an expert in medical and surgical management of complex urinary tract infections. Alex Shteynshlyuger is a fellowship trained board certified urologist with expertise in treating kidney and bladder infections in men and women. Since the 1964 report, tobacco control efforts in the United States have included restrictions on smoking in public places, increases in cigarette excise taxes, limits on underage access to cigarettes, and efforts to increase public awareness of the hazards of smoking.

The second, called no tobacco control, predicted smoking behaviors that would have existed if no tobacco control policies were put in place. The researchers estimated that, without tobacco control programs and policies, an additional 552,000 men and 243,000 women would have died of lung cancer in the period from 1975 through 2000. The network is working on a project to study the efficacy of lung cancer screening for smokers in different age and exposure level groups, based on the results of benefit for spiral CT screening found in the NLST for heavy smokers. Orgasms is not only the result of contractions of muscles, which offer pleasure but this complex process regulates and balances a lot of bodily functions like relieving stress, fights aging, counters cancer, heals wounds, boosts the fitness level and last but not the least makes a wonderful connection between you and your partner. When a person experiences orgasm, one gets distracted from the work related and other tensions, and is automatically relived of stress. An orgasm achieved during love making promotes a good night sleep, which is important for rejuvenation and regeneration of the cell structure in the body.
You could burn as much as on an average 200 calories in half an hour which means losing 1 pound.
DHEA produced during orgasm, works on your immune system, repair the cells and tissues and provides an instant glow to your skin. Not only this, it also works on your senses as orgasm promotes the production of prolactin hormone which helps the brain to form new neurons which in turn activates the smell efficiency.
He has authored numerous papers and his research has been quoted by numerous medical publications. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a UTI, make an appointment to take advantage of Dr.
In the third, called complete tobacco control, the researchers examined the possible outcome if all smoking in the United States had ceased as of 1965, the first full year after the 1964 Surgeon General's Report on Smoking and Health was released.
Previous research indicates that much of the decrease in smoking rates can be attributed to tobacco control policies. More details about the construction of models will be published in a forthcoming special issue of Risk Analysis – An International Journal.
So what are you waiting for, make that warm contact with your partner and enjoy the benefits which come along in the mixed bag. Sex and orgasm also produce hormones which reduce your appetite and craving for junk food, resulting in intake of fewer calories. The perspiration during sexual intercourse flushes out the unnecessary toxins of your body and an orgasm produces the skin nourishing oils to maintain your youth for a longer period.
So do not wait, improve your oxytocin, the fun hormone level, through regular sex and forget all your aches and pains.
It also activates your immune system thus providing you with that physical and mental strength to cope up with just anything.
The release of oxytocin hormone during orgasm acts as a love hormone and enhances bonding and trust between partners. In addition, although beyond the scope of the journal article, rates of other smoking related cancers, and smoking-related diseases, such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, have declined due to tobacco control programs and policies. So go ahead and produce the love hormone to establish a better relationship with yourself and your partner. Oestrogen hormone released during the orgasmic process works on your cardiovascular system and removes the bad cholesterol and increases the bone density. Women who have sex and orgasm regularly have a stronger pelvic area and are less prone to menstrual cramps and have a better reproductive health.
