Naturopathic cancer ottawa jobs

Gonzalez earned his Bachelor of Science at Rutgers University, where he studied Environmental Business Economics.
He completed his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2014. During his coursework, Gonzalez taught healthy eating at elementary schools, served as an assistant at a healthy-living retreat for prostate cancer patients, and has worked at several outreach clinics.
Gonzalez is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Practitioners. Outside of CTCA, Gonzalez enjoys yoga and meditation and following the Barcelona Football Club. Michelle Smekens is a naturopathic oncology provider at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Midwestern). In November 2010, Smekens began a yearlong series of oncology-focused rotations with staff naturopathic providers, oncologists and other clinicians at the hospital.
Smekens received a bachelor’s degree in international studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She belongs to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Smekens grew up in suburban Milwaukee (Delafield, Wisconsin), which is about an hour away from the hospital. Inhibits bacteria and traps heavy metals such as lead, aluminium, nickel, cadmium and mercury. Emits beneficial Far-infrared to energise the water and Pi energy to enhance bioavailability. Provides additional filtration to balance pH and neutralises acidic components in tap water. Helps balance, fortify and assist with pH and increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water.
As the water tumbles through the magnetic tap oxygen is increased (a natural anti-oxidant). I have grown tomatoes usually in the ground over the years and never had this kind of problem. Someone told me that if slugs are bothering a particular plant, to put a copper wire around it, because slugs won't touch copper.
I was strolling through some of the articles on GG and found that if you plant an herb called Borage it helped the growth or flavor of tomatoes. Just wondering which herbs and veggies will need a trellis when they start to grow, apart from tomatoes?
Adequate folate intake during the preconception period (which is the time right before and just after a woman becomes pregnant) helps protect against a number of congenital malformations. Keep in mind- The words ‘folate’ and ‘folic acid’ are often used interchangeably but there are important differences between them. Folate is the naturally-occurring form of the vitamin. Too much folic acid, a synthetic form of folate, will block up the L-methyl folate Receptors on the Blood Brain Barrier [BBB]. Once a MTHFR variation is confirmed then a number of steps can be taken to minimize health problems due to MTHFR. The mechanism for this concern actually comes from multiple consequences of a mutated MTHFR enzyme.  Developing embryos may be adversely affected by toxic levels of homocysteine that result from MTHFR mutations.
An interesting question in relation to embryonic development is whether it is the MTHFR variations in the mother or in the developing child that is the critical determinant in the development of congenital defects. As described above, variations in the MTHFR gene may increase the risk of neural tube defects by changing the ability of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase to process folate.
Polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene have also been studied as possible risk factors for a variety of common conditions. The most well-studied polymorphism related to the risk of neural tube defects changes a single DNA building block (nucleotide) in the MTHFR gene. The increased risk is related to differences in the ability of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase to process folate. I tested positive for a MTHFR variation (C677T or A1298C) what supplements do I need to begin for the best nutrition during my pregnancy?
Your midwife or doctor should be able to help you with finding the nutrients your body is having difficulty utilizing.
Some studies indicate a connection between the C677T MTHFR mutation and increased risk of autism and ADHD. Insomnia, irritability, forgetfulness, endogenous depression, organic psychosis, peripheral neuropathy, myelopathy and restless leg syndrome are all also mentioned in the literature as potentially being influenced by this enzyme deficiency.

Communicating with Your Health Care Team Good communication can help you get the best care and have a better treatment experience.

Good communication between you and your health care team should be a two-way street: you should feel comfortable communicating your concerns and questions, and your providers should explain the diagnosis and treatment plan in ways that you understand. Open dialogue between you and your health care team can contribute to your choosing and staying on an appropriate treatment plan and can also affect your quality of life. Though communication during cancer treatment can be challenging, there are steps you can take to keep the dialogue open and ensure that information is received and understood on both sides. Even with questions prepared, you may find it difficult to keep track of the information you need to receive and share. Get to know all the members of your health care team (such as oncologists, nurses, and social workers) and learn what their role is in your care.
Consider keeping a detailed journal of how you feel during treatment and write down any side effects. Create a file for all printed materials related to your diagnosis so that you can easily look up information. Have a friend come with you to appointments to help you remember important information, ask questions, and take notes.
If you don’t understand something your doctor says, be sure to ask for a clearer explanation. If your circumstances make good communication particularly challenging, a patient navigator like Sahirah can help you establish and maintain an open dialogue with your health care team. In addition to ensuring that all necessary information is shared, a navigator can help you find patient-friendly literature about diagnosis and treatment and make sure you’re receiving needed information in a way that you can understand.
As you enter the treatment process, remember that good communication between you and your health care team can help you achieve the best outcome possible. Our mission is to provide you with options, answer your questions and begin the healing process. Although he had planned to pursue dentistry, Gonzalez was drawn to naturopathic medicine and a holistic approach to patient care.
His doctorate work included a thesis reviewing the current and complementary treatments for bladder cancer. Working with several Patient Empowered Care® Teams, he provides care incorporating various naturopathic modalities, such as botanicals, homeopathy and nutritional support. She completed a two-year naturopathic oncology residency at Midwestern, which gave her a rare chance to work side-by-side with doctors and other clinicians from several disciplines, all of whom are focused on fighting cancer and helping cancer patients experience a good quality of life.
Her training includes supervised clinical practice in oncology, homeopathic, nutritional and botanical medicine, as well as coursework in these modalities. She graduated with honors from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona with a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine. This results in a slowing down of methylation, which affects neurotransmitters and the body’s ability to detoxify.
Humans cannot synthesize folate de novo; therefore, folate has to be supplied through the diet to meet their daily requirements.
Knowing if you have a variation in this gene will let you know how your midwife can best help you from a nutritional standpoint to help prevent birth defects. Spinach, lentils, and garbanzo beans are all good sources of dietary folate. Folic aid is the synthetic form of the vitamin that is used in most supplements and in fortified foods.
As a result, too much folic acid and not enough L-methyl folate will cause less L-methyl folate from being able to enter the brain.
Its job is to convert one form of folate (5,10-Methylenetetrahydofolate) to another form of folate (5-Methyltetrahydrofolate). Altered DNA methylation may also have direct negative effects on gene expression and DNA synthesis. In people with this condition, the bones of the spinal column do not close completely around the developing nerves of the spinal cord. These include heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure (hypertension), high blood pressure during pregnancy (preeclampsia), an eye disorder called glaucoma, psychiatric disorders, and certain types of cancer. Affected individuals are missing large parts of the brain and have missing or incompletely formed skull bones.
Specifically, it replaces the nucleotide cytosine with the nucleotide thymine at position 677 (written as 677C>T). If your midwife or doctor does not know what to do with the results on your MTHFR testing or simply gives you a prescription for folate, seek another provider who can truly help you get on the right nutritional path. Individual supplements can be added for your individual needs; Vitamin B6 may be added, Krill oil, Glutathione, Electrolytes, Vitamin E, etc. Case-control comparisons revealed significantly higher frequency of homozygosity as well as heterozygosity for both the C677T and A1298T genotypes among autistic versus non-autistic children (Liu X.
At the same time, we support you with nutrition and other therapies, because we know that managing the side effects of cancer treatment is half the battle. As part of his training, Christian completed clinical rotations in pediatrics, general medicine, oncology and mind-body medicine, along with a preceptorship at the NYU Langone Integrative Urology Center.
He integrates the latest understanding of naturopathic therapeutics and cancer care into his recommendations.
The human body needs folate to synthesize DNA, repair DNA, and methylate DNA as well as to act as a cofactor in certain biological reactions. When defects occur, the methyl cycle is blocked and metabolism has a difficult time moving forward. The main concerns here are neural tube defects and other midline defects such as cleft palate, and tongue tie, although they are not the only ones.  Noteworthy research includes a study from Ireland showing that 26% of all neural tube defects were related to either the homozygous or heterozygous MTHFR mutations. Further research is certainly needed to shed light on this very important area of prenatal and pregnancy health. As a result, part of the spinal cord may stick out through an opening in the spine, leading to permanent nerve damage. This variant, which is relatively common in many populations worldwide, produces a form of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase that has reduced activity at higher temperatures (thermolabile).
These changes impair the function of the enzyme, and some cause the enzyme to be turned off (inactivated).
It is highly recommended that you discuss this information and any nutritional changes with your midwife or doctor.
At CTCA®, you’ll receive continuous care from a dedicated team, including oncologists, surgeons and other integrative care clinicians.

Can anyone tell me what this, best conditions for growing and if I can grow it in west Houston? It is especially important in aiding rapid cell division and growth, such as in infancy and pregnancy. Children and adults both require folic acid to produce healthy red blood cells and prevent anemia. Therefore, if MTHFR is not doing its job as well, homocysteine will not be converted to methionine and will be elevated in your blood. Studies of MTHFR gene variations in people with these disorders have had mixed results, with associations found in some studies but not in others.
People with the thermolabile form of the enzyme have increased levels of homocysteine in their blood.
Other mutations lead to the production of an abnormally small, nonfunctional version of the enzyme.
What this means is that the genes that instruct MTHFR to convert homocysteine to methionine are mutated and may not be capable of doing this important function.
These help the body skip the blocked steps and continue working as though they had occurred. Therefore, it remains unclear what role changes in the MTHFR gene play in determining the risk of these complex conditions. Without functional methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, homocysteine cannot be converted to methionine. Methylated B12 (Methylcobalamin) is already in its activated state where the body can use it without having to convert it, skipping many metabolic steps that may not be functioning properly. As a result, homocysteine builds up in the bloodstream, and the amount of methionine is reduced. This isn’t as reliable as testing for the mutations, because homocysteine levels fluctuate. Researchers have not determined how altered levels of homocysteine and methionine lead to the health problems associated with homocystinuria.
