Lymphocytes are white blood cells found in the lymph tissue and are responsible to fight infections. If one or a combination of these symptoms shows up, victims must consult a doctor without any delay. The factors that trigger Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma are unknown but it occurs when excess lymphocytes are produced in the lymph nodes.
The treatment plan is created after determining the type and severity of the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Animation - the effects of smoking on your body Smoking and cancer Smoking is by far the greatest avoidable risk for developing many types of cancer including throat, mouth, oesophagus, lung, stomach, kidney, bladder and cervical (neck of the womb). Lymph tissue dwells in several organs of the lymphatic system including lymph nodes and spleen. The cancer initiates from white blood cells known as B lymphocytes in the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Once diagnosed, however, indolent lymphoma needs regular check-ups to ensure the cancer does not spread too much.
In general, the more advanced the cancer (the more it has grown and spread), the less chance that treatment will be curative. There are many subtypes of this lymphoma, the most common ones being follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma or DLBCL.
During Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, lymphocytes are produced abnormally and do not die resulting in an excess presence of lymphocytes in the lymph nodes.
Treating Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on time is necessary to avoid serious health problems. B cells tend to eliminate infectious particles by producing more antibodies while T cells tend to kill them directly. You can see and feel the front part of the larynx as the Adam's apple on the front of the neck, just below the chin.

It can also affect how well your blood, and therefore oxygen, flows around your body – for example, you may notice you often have cold hands and feet, which is a result of not enough blood getting to them. When you swallow, the larynx moves upwards slightly and a flap of cartilage tissue at the back of the tongue, called the epiglottis, closes over the entrance to the larynx.
This can lead to gangrene (where tissues in your body die) and possibly the need for amputation. This happens if some cells break off from the first (primary) tumour and are carried in the bloodstream or lymph channels to other parts of the body.
These small groups of cells may then multiply to form secondary tumours (metastases) in one or more parts of the body.
When your lungs are damaged in this way, it’s called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD describes a number of long-term lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties, the main two of which are bronchitis and emphysema.
Some cancers are more serious than others, some are more easily treated than others, some have a better outlook (prognosis) than others.
Smoking can also mean that if you get flu, you’re more likely to develop complications.
In each case it is important to know exactly what type of cancer has developed, how large it has become, and whether it has spread. There are different types of cancer of the larynx: Squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx occurs in more than 9 in 10 cases.
It also reduces your sense of taste and smell, and that smoky odour that clings to your hair and clothes isn’t very attractive either. Having this body shape, in which you have a high waist-to-hip ratio, is linked to a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
The problem is, a hoarse voice is a common symptom of laryngitis (a viral infection of the larynx).

And if you stay a non-smoker for 10 years, you will also reduce your risk of lung cancer by half compared with someone who smokes.
However, for cancer of the larynx, it may not be possible to give an accurate staging until after an operation to remove the tumour. The treatment advised for each case depends on various factors such as the exact site of the primary tumour in the larynx, the stage of the cancer (how large the cancer is and whether it has spread), the grade of the cancerous cells, and your general health. This is because tests are usually done if you develop a persistent hoarse voice which often develops when the cancer is still at an early stage. This is why doctors are sometimes reluctant to use the word cured.) In some cases, treatment aims to control the cancer.
If a cure is not realistic, with treatment it is often possible to limit the growth or spread of the cancer so that it progresses less rapidly. Radiotherapy is a treatment which uses high-energy beams of radiation which are focused on cancerous tissue. Radiotherapy is also sometimes used in addition to surgery or chemotherapy in certain situations. It is sometimes used following surgery, to kill any cancer cells which may have been left behind following the operation. If only part of the larynx is removed you should not need a permanent stoma (hole in the neck) to breathe, and speech may be preserved.
