The tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body that prepares food for chewing and is the primary organ of taste. People who practice traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncturists use Chinese tongue diagnosis which is important tool in understanding better our bodies condition. Normal tongue – pink, no teeth marks or discolorations, with a clear coating that shows proper salivary secretion.
A thin white layer, traces of teeth and a few red dots – this tongue suggests a lack of vital energy in the body so that causes fatigue, poor appetite and excessive sweating.
A thin yellow layer in the middle which is surrounded by red colour  – this tongue refers to the appearance of problems with constipation, dehydration and skin diseases.
Greasy white coat, swollen edges of the tongue – this seems to refer to work of an unbalanced digestive system and the tendency of water accumulation in the body. A thin layer of white and red tip of the tongue – this situation reveals that the human body is exposed to constant stress, which causes an unstable emotional state. Red tongue with yellow thick layer in the middle area – an indication of elevated body temperature, which indicates a possible urinary tract infection, skin problems.
A thick layer of white in the middle area of ??pale tongue – a situation that suggests infection or inflammation associated with an autoimmune disease, lack of vitamins and minerals.
Cracks on the red surface of the tongue – refers to a fungal infection in the body that is accompanied by night sweats, insomnia, irritability. Tongue whose surface is pale and without sediments – indicates reduced blood flow in the body, anemia that can cause dizziness, fatigue, and people of this kind of tongue are suffering from a lack of concentration and memory. No matter where we are, we have two abundant resources to help us restore and maintain our balance—the earth and the sky. According to classical Chinese medical theory, our body, which is a microcosm of the universe, is also composed of yin and yang.
The next time you are in nature imagine bringing up the energy of the earth from the ground into your feet while at the same time bringing the energy of the sky into the crown of your head.
In our last blog we saw that both circadian rhythms and the TCM meridian clock can greatly influence our body and our mind.
The Liver meridian that we started looking at above, would better be called the Yin aspect of Wood. The flower essences I most often use for anger are: Blue Early Viola, Chamomile, Fireweed, Pussy–Toes Everlasting or Wormwood.

Sometimes a person wakes caught up in a mental loop of guilt over some loss at 4:30am, and we can reflect back on the Metal energy and try to deal with it accordingly. Now that I have given you lots to contemplate, I must remind you of a famous quote: “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar” (Sigmund Freud). Some of the latest research shows that waking in the night and getting up to do something for 30 minutes to a few hours can be quite normal for some people. This is one of the most diagnosed health issues in both men and women over the age of 45; but the problem starts way before this age – in the routines of our lifestyle.
Arterial disease, atherosclerosis In our last blog we looked at why matters of the Heart and Mind can affect lifestyle issues that can play a big role in cardiovascular (CV) issues. After doing a blog on how statins might not always be good for you, several people asked me what to do, so I decided to do a multiple part blog on cardiovascular issues. A little over two years ago, I got a nasty parasite while adventuring in the tropics that landed me in the hospital so fatigued I could barely move.
All of this is manifested in the mood so people with this kind of tongue usually change their moods quickly. Such conditions cause pale complexion, pain in the spine and the feeling that often is close to panic.
If women have this kind of tongue diagnosis is often a sign of possible hormonal imbalances. Our health depends on the proper balance of these two energies which are constantly changing as we live and grow. The dark side is yin, which represents the earth, femininity, coolness, darkness and stillness. These rhythms tell a Herbal practitioner a lot about a person’s general health and anomalies. The acupuncture meridians are an energetic system, or a kind of ‘electrical system,’ of our energy patterns. If you consider the meridian’s electrical circuits, it is resistance or blockages (like stress) that reduce the flow of energy.
There are many reasons for dreams, but one of the things they do is ‘metabolize’ built up emotions in our life. Teenagers come alive in the evening, and their passion to be with friends might ‘Fire’ them on into the wee hours of Wood, especially if alcohol is involved. This is to mean, you might have a sleep pattern that is different from other people, but quite healthy for you.

It is not my intention to cause you concerns about these above patterns, as they may reflect what is natural and normal for you — but we will have to wait for another blog to explore this aspect. Fortunately for me I finally found out what the parasite was and my health is back to normal. They are opposite, yet complementary forces, and, according to Chinese philosophy, everything in the universe is composed of these two qualities. In the last blog we took a brief look at this.  We saw that the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) meridian clock could give us great clues. If we work out what is making the person angry, we can often restore the flow of the meridian and thus change the sleep pattern. You could also fill out our questionnaire to see which flower essences are appropriate for you.
I often suggest a person does Systemic (family) constellation work, if they feel the emotion is ancestral, or in their family of origin. The meridians might be in our body, but there is no specific anatomical part that makes them up. The meridians are coupled in pairs of Yin (receiving energy) and Yang (expressing energy) of one of the five elements – Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire. So what we have to do is figure out what the resistance is; often it is of an emotional nature. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you have a serious liver problem; the word Liver is partly a translation issue. I am of the firm belief that we do not have to go through long sessions of analysis to figure these things out. The organ associated with a meridian, in this case the liver, is not the cause of the meridian; the organ is more or less a physical artifact, or a physical condensing, of the Qi of the meridian. Put simply, the Liver meridian’s energy pattern deals with much more than the physical organ of the liver. Liver with a capital ‘L’ is the energy pattern and with a little ‘l’ is the physical organ.
