Shilpen Patel, a UW Medicine radiation oncologist and secretary to the board of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Foundation. In Seattle, I met with representatives of the Seattle Cancer Cancer Alliance, where iconic buildings like the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center pledged to light blue, and I gave live interviews with Seattle’s KOMO News4 (ABC), KING5 News (NBC) and Q13 News (FOX). Encourage local media to put a greater spotlight on prostate cancer by educating readers, listeners and viewers how we must change the conversation from reactive and being more proactive, educating men how to start the fight against prostate cancer decades before screenings start.

The Fund supports cancer patients with care, treatment, education, and prevention programs. Look for the blue illumination across the country this month – in Houston, TX at City Hall, University of St.
In Portland, KOIN 6 News (CBS) has also been getting the message out to the community with reporters Riley O’Connor, Sally Showman and Carly Kennelly supporting the initiative. This cause is close to the hearts of survivors of prostate cancer, and families of those who we’ve lost, and as survivors, we have an obligation this September to honor the memory of those we’ve lost, and put action toward prevention during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Through September, Blue Cure is challenging supporters to petition their state capitols, hospitals, significant local landmarks and universities to light blue for an evening in September.
