The acromioclavicular joint (figure 1) may be dislocated after a fall or direct trauma to the joint.
One or more of the acromioclavicular joint ligaments may be ruptured after the trauma, thus resulting in respective superior migration of the clavicle. The clinical presentation of acromioclavicular joint dislocation is typical with superior migration of the clavicle.
The acromioclavicular joint dislocation is a clinical diagnosis and is confirmed radiographically.

Acromioclavicular joint injuries are classified most commonly using the 6-grade system described by Rockwood (1998) 3. Acromioclavicular joint dislocation is classified in 6 degrees depending on the severity of the injury (figure 2).
