Rich Parents Trait and a 25 charge 'half' wand of Magic Missiles or so will give you plenty of 'ammo' to try to live a few levels. The common farmer, baker, craftsman - though often overlooked and rarely respected, collectively these are the backbone of a kingdom. A smartly-played Fighter is not as much better than a badly-played Fighter as a smartly-played Wizard is than a badly-played Wizard.
The first choice a Pathfinder wizard will want to make is which specialist school to choose from. Transmutation is a good school for magic, and the physical enhancement ability the specialist gets is great if you are forced to have 13 in con due to running out of points when buying stats. Divination specialist has the best class features in the game, especially with the Foresight subschool.
Channel Positive Energy (Su) Using two uses of her lay on hands ability, channel 4d6, Will DC 19. Alternatively, a paladin can use this healing power to deal damage to undead creatures, dealing 4d6 points of damage. Blade of Mercy When striking to inflict nonlethal damage with any slashing weapon, you do not take the normal -4 penalty on your attack roll, and gain a +1 trait bonus on any nonlethal damage you inflict with a slashing weapon. I'd also recommend sticking Mage Armor as the arcane bond spell for the walking stick so you have some protection for being a frontline wizard. It has its place, but this isn't it - especially in Pathfinder where you can pretty much get free Magic Missiles from your school choice. If you think a Wizard is useless at L1, though, I can only imagine that you're not all that familiar with Wizards.
Just having a chance of dealing damage is better than nothing, and you can quite literally one-shot a foe just by getting lucky. The class features you get from being a specialist are great and should not be overlooked, and the bonus spell slots are important too.
The blinding ray ability of the Illusionist is great, stopping an enemy for a round and making it much easier for your allies to kill it. The spells are not great, but you get the stat boost of the transmutation school, and your Splintered Spear ability does great ranged damage and can kill any enemy that doesn't have a way of healing itself with a single application.

Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against charm effects. Using lay on hands in this way requires a successful melee touch attack and doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity. Then the fighter is not only useful in combat, but is REALLY useful in combat and as useful as the wizard at other times too. If you want help playing a Wizard, by all means I'll be willing to try and give it, but I'm not going to PM you just to get in an argument. To be honest, though, I doubt you're ever going to need the crossbow even at L1 - especially in Pathfinder.
Using this ability is a standard action, unless the paladin targets herself, in which case it is a swift action. They are pacifists and do not engage in fighting, only healing and caring but they are not naive and understand that sometimes one must fight; though in this instance they will seek outside help instead of inflicting harm on another.

The Phantasm subschool's Terror ability is incredibly good at low levels if you're forced into melee range, letting you spend a standard action to give your greatsword wielding barbarian another attack. She enjoys causing pain on those that deserve it and doesn’t have a problem head butting people, usually in the groin.
