IsoCure may also be new press specified or retro-fitted on a variety of printing and coating machines including in-line, sheet-fed, central impression and bridge over conveyers from 50cm (20”) up to 195cm (77”). In plants where the ambient air is heated or cooled, substantial sums of money can be wasted as the treated air is extracted by the UV system in cooling the lamps and removing ozone. GEW has announced the development of its IsoCure system for UV curing of inks on web offset newspaper presses where cold-set inks are used. IsoCure can be fitted to existing cold-set presses to enable the use of UV inks and gives printers the ability to produce high quality work on both coated and uncoated paper. Traditionally newspapers have been produced with un-coated paper and printed with cold-set inks that dry by absorption into the substrate.
Clever design elements mean that exhaust fans and ducting are not required to cool the lamps on the IsoCure as is normally required on conventional UV systems and this means there is less demand on the heating and air conditioning source in the plant with associated energy savings. Reducing the carbon footprint is very much the theme of the GEW stand at this years Labelexpo Americas where it will feature its e-System range of UV lamp heads with energy saving electronic power supplies that offer the combined benefits of more UV output, low running costs and reduced CO2 emissions.
