The problem I was trying to fix when this idea came to me was a stuffy note on a Buescher Alto Sax. It is not air that we are necessarily dealing with inside saxophone, rather it's a wave, and further it's a standing wave. This theory is best understood when considering a large mass of air traveling over a surface.
After gluing the sandpaper in the tone hole and playing the note, I was amazed that it really improved the tone. I have also found that "The sand paper trick" works to take the fan or warble noise out of octave C that plagues so many sax players when playing at higher dynamics on instruments such as modern Selmer altos, vintage Conn's, vintage Bueschers and many other instruments.
For saxophonists, particularly those playing acoustically in quartets or solo literature, the hiss that often occurs on the second octave notes such as octave A, G# and octave D on many Alto and Baritone saxophones can be a real nuisance. We started with the same tested surface as the Star Classic Reso, but achieved an improved airtight design by beveling the edges.
If you’re using Original Gorilla Glue for the first time, or bonding a new type of material, we always recommend trying a test piece first. If you do get the glue on your skin, try removing it with a dry cloth or paper towel first (particularly if the glue is still tacky). Knowing this I still had the feeling that allowing more air to escape the tone-hole would improve the tone of this particular note. Finally it hit me to try adding turbulence on a low level to reduce the overall turbulence experienced at that tone-hole.
However, I suggest searching for a solution such as mouthpiece, reed or key height before implementing this fix.

The tone-hole for this F# on a Buescher alto is very small, so nearly every Buescher alto that I have played suffers from a stuffy F# because of it.
Considering ways to do this, I thought about adding a scoop of sorts onto the tone-hole that projected into the bore.

We will be removing the regulator, and if the glass is not secure, it could fall in and break. The old regulator I removed was attached as in the top right photo; the new regulator I installed used a black plastic trim pin (see bottom right) pushed through the metal. If it is, disconnect the speaker wire from the speaker, and finish pulling out the regulator. Secure it with the 5, 10mm bolts, and reconnect the speaker wire and black trim pin, if necessary.

Several years ago, my driver’s side regulator went out, year later, front passenger, next year, rear passenger, yesterday, rear drivers side. Your post and the excellent instructions including spot on photos, sure made it seem straight forward, and it was. The air that is directly in contact with the rough surface will whip around in turbulent circles.

I noticed that the motor mounting was different between the new and old part, but I bought the entire assembly so it didn’t matter. Taped up the window, powered up and slowly raised the bracket up to the glass, perfect fit, tightened the clamp nuts and done deal. Hopefully there are others out there that can express this frustration and possibly Ford can use better parts in this area or do I just have a case of having a bad misfortune, 4 times???
