Wood floors in modern homes are often covered with carpet that is held on with adhesive material. Before you can attempt to remove the adhesive from the wood floor, you need to clean the floor properly. Another possible method of removing adhesive from the wood floor is to freeze the adhesive. So, the other day when I pulled out my daughter’s almost brand new shirt from the dryer and it had sticker residue on it, I was a little upset. So, it made perfect sense that this would not only remove sticker residue, but also be safe for clothing. Used this to remove adhesive residue on my fourteen year old, regularly maintained paintwork. I was in the process of cleaning out the old adhesive in the channel for the boot cover seal of the soft top hatch container. Often when you are thinking of changing the look of your room, the first thing in your mind is to change the old carpet or to remove it.
Leaving the glue un-tackled may result in dust sticking on them, making it more difficult to remove or maintain.

I have found the fastest way of dealing with it is chiseling for a small area or power scraping - rent one or I personally own one that hooks up to compressor - scraper was like $15 at big box.

You can get by without a compressor but having one makes doing things cheaper and faster in my opinion. In order to remove all the grime, prepare a mixture of soap and water and apply it to the wood floor as you scrub the floor with a non-metal scrubbing brush.


Apply a small quantity of mineral spirits on a lint-free towel and scrub the floor with that towel. Note, I did not even leave the spray on the paint for long, I wiped it off almost immediately after spraying.
It is very difficult to get rid of the remaining glue even with most scrapping tools but there is one way which is not only easy but costs less as well. This stuff sits between concrete and the underlayment, it is clear in appearance, maybe some yellowish tint to it. After you are done scrubbing the floor, most of the dirt and debris should have been removed. Working in small sections, firmly rub the peanut butter onto the adhesive with your fingers in a circular motion. Then remove the rag and rub that section of the wood floor with the tips of your finger or a putty knife. And I spend way more time than I would like trying to get soiled clothing clean and wearable again. The following method is also eco-friendly and there are not much things you need in order to carry out this procedure. So if you are doing a small patch, you might be better off with scraping it manually using a reciprocating saw with a scraping attachment.
After rubbing for a short duration, the adhesive will start to come off the floor in tiny balls.
These methods or adhesive removal products can remove things like crayons, tar, grease and gum. You may need to experiment with some of these to find the correct one to remove the adhesive. You can rent, beg, borrow or steal the pan cake compressor ( stealing should be your last option) ??. I have not tried it for scraping yet, but I'm afraid it is not heavy duty enough to cover large areas.
Try to use the least harmful product first and work your way to chemical solvents when all else fails. You take the game disc out to play it and there is a giant scratch going through the "read" side of the disc.
