Slide your trim removal tool or flat screw driver between the trim and door about 20% from each end, and pop up. Use your fingers to pop out the white lug attached to the cable away from the panel, rotate toward the door, and lift the whole cable out. Your directions were precise and I had both my rear windows out and installed and operating perfectly within 2 hours.
I got into the door yesterday as far as to take out the regulator and decided it was too much. Most of the info was correct except I had to remove four screws from my speaker on the front door (2004 Lariat). I also used one of the Helpful Links to replace the front right regulator on my 2004 Super Crew F-150. I had resolved myself to taking this to a shop and have it fixed because of a horrible experience replacing a window motor on a Buick Regal once (still have nightmares about that). Service manager at Johnson-Sewell Ford in Marble Falls, TX agreed that failure frequency that he is aware of suggests a manufacturers defect. The first time this happened, I bought the part and had a Safelite Auto install it, but the second time, I did it all myself. The tar-like glue used to hold this on will stay tacky, and as long as you don't get it dirty, you will not need to use any additional glue when you put this back on.
We will be removing the regulator, and if the glass is not secure, it could fall in and break. The old regulator I removed was attached as in the top right photo; the new regulator I installed used a black plastic trim pin (see bottom right) pushed through the metal. If it is, disconnect the speaker wire from the speaker, and finish pulling out the regulator. Secure it with the 5, 10mm bolts, and reconnect the speaker wire and black trim pin, if necessary.

The part cost me $189 (tax and all) at my local Ford dealer and it took me less than an hour. I paid Rock Auto $95.00 plus shipping for a Motorcraft brand Made in USA part with the same exact part number the came with the truck. I bought the part from Advance Auto Parts because they were only 6 miles away and had it in stock. And, I consider myself a pretty handy guy and do most all repair work around my house by myself. This is a big problem of Ford F150 OWNERS, in which the Ford Management are not addressing the issues.. Hint: if you are replacing the right rear window, just flip the images horizontally in an image editor. Only delay I had was that I didn’t have the torx screws holding the window in the clamps but this is a 10mm socket for those who may want that option.
Several years ago, my driver’s side regulator went out, year later, front passenger, next year, rear passenger, yesterday, rear drivers side. Your post and the excellent instructions including spot on photos, sure made it seem straight forward, and it was. To fix this, connect both the regulator and door control panel to the electrical, as shown above. These instructions see like they will be a major help and it should not be too complicated. It was also a little tricky working the new regulator assembly into the door frame, but after a few minutes of trying different angles it went in no prob.
At first the power connection looked different, but then I found there was an adapter cable on the motor. Use their site to find your part, or give them a call – they’re extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and will give you the part number right away.
Turn on your car to accessory mode (ie, you don't need to start your engine), and hold the button that rolls up your window. I stuck a 2 x 4 with a wad of tape in there to keep my window up while the replacement part is on order.
In understanding normal wear and tear, has anyone else experienced this problem to the degree I have whereas all four had to be replaced. Turn your car off, unplug the control panel, and tighten the now-raised window clamps onto the window using your Torx screwdriver. Does anyone know what part numbers I need to order for the rear passenger and the rear driver windows? I noticed that the motor mounting was different between the new and old part, but I bought the entire assembly so it didn’t matter. Taped up the window, powered up and slowly raised the bracket up to the glass, perfect fit, tightened the clamp nuts and done deal. Hopefully there are others out there that can express this frustration and possibly Ford can use better parts in this area or do I just have a case of having a bad misfortune, 4 times???
