I posted this photo on Instagram and people seemed to really like the idea, so I thought I’d just do a really quick post on it. How to: All I did was put some glitter polish at the base of my nails near the cuticles and finished with a top coat of Seche Vite to smooth everything out. With this little trick, you can justify spending the $$ for getting gel nails done at a salon… or even justify buying a kit to give yourself gel nails at home!
I’m so excited that I can extend the wear of my gel nails another week or so with a brand new look! I have already shown you some swatches of the new (at least new to the German market) Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail polish shades, but I still owe you a thorough review. On their Instagram page Sally Hansen announced that the Miracle Gel top coat has been reformulated and now gives you "up to 14 days of color and shine [and] now gives you 2x the volume". After five days of wear there was some noticeable growth at the cuticle and a bit more tip wear compared to day three. To cover up some of the growth at the cuticle and the tip wear I sponged on a gradient using Birthday Suit and Red Eye from the same range. I took the whole manicure off after 7 days, because I had an invitation to a job interview and I did not want to show up and scare everyone with my bright claws ;) I am sure this manicure would have lasted me for a few more days.
Overall, I am pleased with the performance of Sally Hansen Birthday Suit from the Miracle Gel range. As far as wear time is concerned, this nail polish held up pretty well and I got a full week of wear out of it.
You can buy straight Acetone from the hardware store for so much cheaper than Sally Beauty. You can tell it has been on there for long enough when the polish starts curling off the nail. The new line consists of 11 shades of nail polish plus one UV-gel-like clear top coat that cures thoroughly in natural light for a durable, high-shine finish.
The black bottle is the Top Coat and it is developed to be used together with the Miracle Gel™ colours. I really like all 11 colours from the Miracle Gel™ collection in Malaysia but I only brought these 3 colours home. Birthday Suits requires 3 coats to achieve this cream colour, I really love this nude color!
Grey Matters is such a gorgeous blue with some grey tone, I think it matches so well with denims! I wasn’t ready to remove the gel nails quite yet, so I gave them a second life with my favorite glitter nail polish!

Seriously such a quick and easy fix, and the best part is that you get another whole new look out of it. I tried two Sally Hansen polishes and you can see that Gem Crush Big Money (pictured on right below) is clearly the winner. I’m planning on getting my nails done for my wedding and love that I can make them last longer! Now that you have a totally different type on top, how do you remove the polish, since you have on two different types.
It dissolves the nail polish underneath very quickly and drags it along as you move the brush towards the tip of the nail. There were no chips or cracks and the whole manicure held up much better than the last time I tried this system. By the way, I simply removed this polish with non-acetone remover and it comes off just like any other regular nail polish. If it really lasts a full 14 days as claimed remains to be investigated, but I personally wouldn't want a mani to last that long (firstly, because I get bored quickly with my mani and secondly, I do not think I would be able to stand the growth at the cuticle).
It looks SO GOOD, love the colour combo.ReplyDeletefiregirlJuly 21, 2015 at 11:52 PMThe gradient is fab and covers up my pet hate - nail growth! Normally, when they start to peel up, I just slowly pull them off, but here is the official tutorial. Unlike the gel manicures in the nail salons, the Miracle Gel™ can be removed using normal nail polish remover, no special remover is needed! I got some dents and patches in my freshly painted nails, but these aren't too apparent in the photos.
The shine had dulled a bit, but I observe similar things with regular top coats I use (which most of the time is Glisten & Glow HK Girl or Misslyn 60 sec top dry). It seems that the top coat has shrunk on a few nails, but overall this manicure was still wearable. These are available from Born Pretty Store and with the code KYL91 you get 10% off your whole order. In order to prolong the wear of my polish for even an extra day or two, I have to buff my nails with a file to roughen them up before I polish them, and make sure my nail beds have been cleaned with either nail polish remover or Formula X by Sephora nail cleaner.
It is the same as using the Top Coat on other nail polishes, the colours will turn out different as well. The color went on patchy, the top coat dissolved the base color so I ended up with even more patches and the whole manicure looked nothing like gel - it lacked volume and shine.
The plastic bristles of the brush are really hard and hardly bend, which results in some ridges in the final manicure, as you can see in the macro below.

I almost cut myself while chopping onions and in order not to influence the wear test I did not file my nails or reapply polish on that nail.
I also got some bubbles in my mani, which is probably because I was too heavy handed with the top coat. However, gel nails or the long wearing regular nail polishes aren't for me, because I like to switch up the color on my nails often. So I picked a color, got the package that came with the gel topcoat, and brought it home to give it a try.The name of the color I got was Birthday Suit.
But to be fair, it added a decent amount of shine and did not shrink on me, which is always a plus. I actually didn't have anything like this in my collection! It says to use two coats of the polish followed by one coat of the topcoat. This color was so light, though, that to get the opacity I wanted, I had to use three coats.
I accidentally melted the polish on the tips of my middle and ring finger with my styling wand, so keep that in mind! I am really impressed by how well it stayed on my nails, considering the trouble I always have. For someone with normal nails, I bet this would look great even into week 2!The only thing I wonder about the topcoat is if it can be used with other nail polishes and stay just as long.
I have a feeling the formula is designed for the polish and topcoat to work together, but I still want to try it with a color from my collection. I have SO much polish that I just can't go out and buy the same colors in this formula!
There's one more topcoat I saw on a blog or in a haul video that I want to try and review for you guys. Reply pugmamastace says: September 22, 2014 at 10:47 amHi Jennifer, thanks for stopping by! Maybe it was the lack of a base coat and good nail prep….thanks so much for the suggestion! I read a couple of blogs that said that it didnt work with regular polish but both said that they didn’t like the gel at all.
