Please post your comments of how wonderful you think his tank is and congratulations on his thread and not on this thread. Patrick is going to be a tough act to follow for CTOTM, but I'm truly honored to have been chosen as February's winner. Thank you's: CTARS for the award, 'Pecan2Phat' for the inspiration, 'Useful_Idiot' for introducing me to LED's and Vortech's, 'frankyrivera' for allowing others to see my reef through beautiful photos, 'mylifeismyown' for always helping me spend money, and my better half for dealing with the constant tinkering and never ending spending. After Patrick and Karl won I said to myself I got a long way to go until I get to that level and then I get contacted saying I?ve won March TOTM.
The first time i saw hair algae growing on my rocks i was so excited thinking woo-hoo I?m finally starting to grow stuff.
That?s when Rich (Madtanks) turned me on to Reef Central back in 2005, I joined asked a million questions found out about Puppy Center and then never had any money left again.
I would like to Thank: CTARS and the entire ?Board? for breathing life into the club and more importantly for the Award. Franky has a thread of his own here on Reef Central where he enjoys posting his terrific macro shots.
More of Franky's pictures will also be posted on our CTARS webpage (when it's up) as well as our Facebook and Google+ page! I would like to thank you all for that and especially my wife Lisa for enjoying this hobby along with me. The MAX® E-series combines a contemporary, rimless design with state of the art technology. The fully-featured REEF-SPEC®  MAX® E system provides everything necessary in order to enable you to enjoy the beauty and diversity of your own piece of thriving coral reef, rather than worrying about component selection, suitability and compatibility. The MAX® E-Series features the very latest in reef-keeping technology including the Hydra 26™ HD LED lighting with Wi-Fi control, REEF-SPEC® filtration and circulation systems, a revolutionary modular sump system and a one-plug control panel. The Red Sea MAX REEF-SPEC® performance criteria is the result of Red Sea’s years of research into the sustainable growth of all corals, including the most delicate “SPS” corals, in an artificial reef environment. The MAX® E – Series incorporate the all-new Hydra 26™ HD LED lighting, providing the most up to date LED technology to give superb performance and a remarkably user-friendly interface. The Hydra 26™ HD unit offers a full spectrum, 7 colour LED configuration giving great colour rendition and a multitude of lighting effects.
The revolutionary control system dynamically adjusts the power available to each colour by utilizing power not being used by other colours, effectively enabling selected channels to be ‘boosted’ to above 100% output. At only 90w power consumption per Hydra 26™HD, the MAX® E achieves excellent performance at a fraction of the running costs of using traditional T5 Fluorescent lighting. The LED unit is firmly bolted to the aquarium and can be rotated to give easy access to the rear sump for all of the regular maintenance requirements or for reefscaping.
The MAX® E-170 reef aquarium system uses a single 90W 26HD LED unit while the MAX® E-260 reef aquarium system has 2 units that are seamlessly paired together by the Wi-Fi controller. Start your reef with the built-in rear sump that houses the complete REEF-SPEC® filtration and circulation systems. Red Sea’s unique overflow system, with its fully regulated silent-flow downpipe (as used in the top-of–the-range S-Series), easily connects to the integrated multiport bulkhead without the need for any cutting, gluing or emptying of the entire aquarium.

The optional sump conversion kit includes a customized glass sump with a dedicated constant height skimmer chamber, a flow-regulated overflow system and an integrated automatic top up. The front and two side panels of the Max® E-Series are constructed from Ultra-Clear glass for the ultimate viewing experience.
The MAX® E-Series aquariums are divided into 2 parts – Aquarium and the Rear Sump that discretely houses all of the filtration and circulation systems. The heart of the filtration system is the protein skimmer. The MSK 900 skimmer implements Red Sea’s REEF-SPEC® criteria for SPS corals, passing the entire volume of the aquarium water through the skimmer at least 3 times per hour and with a 3 to 1 water to air ratio.
The rear sump includes a convenient media rack for Red Sea’s new highly adsorbent phosphate-free REEF-SPEC™ Carbon which is supplied with the MAX® E system, and has extra shelves for the easy addition of other chemical filter media. The Red Sea MAX® E-Series sump has a dedicated place for the addition of a chiller pump as well as a convenient connection bracket for the chiller piping (Chiller and pipes are not supplied with the system). The MAX® E-Series incorporates the one-plug MAX® concept and features a power center with easy access to 7 individually switched power sockets for all system electrical sub-components. The MAX® E-Series feature a marine-spec laminate cabinet fronted with weatherproof epoxy painted doors with convenient push openers as well as soft close stainless steel hinges. Smart UVs are strong; constructed of heavy-wall UV resistant plastic, commercially designed for outdoor applications. It's been setup 2 years now and half of the liverock is 5+ years old and covered with sponges and life. Rob (my2girls) helped me big time with water chemistry and every other problem I had when I first started. It took several month, if not almost a full year, for my current system to be capable of sustaining the most delicate of coral life.
Like many reefers, I started with a 29 gallon freshwater tank with a hang on back everything LOL!. So I quickly jam packed my tank with every possible pretty fish I can squeeze in there?everyone knows how that story ended. I overskim, run a fugue, don?t overfeed, don't overstock and try to never put my hands in the tank.
There are way too many people to thank individually and for the fear of forgetting someone who may have been instrumental in helping me in any way along my journey, I choose to thank everyone equally and for those that went out of their way to hook me up with stuff you know who you are. When you look at your own tank you see the flaws and when you look at someone elses tank you see the good. This is something I have had little of until I changed the tank over to the 120 gallon SPS dominated tank. This knowledge, gained over 25 years, forms the basis for the specification of all Red Sea MAX® Aquarium systemsdesigns.
The MAX® E-Series feature a unique sump system, enabling simple conversion of the integrated rear sump into a fully operational stand alone in-cabinet sump. If you decide to add additional equipment such as a calcium reactor, the modular filtration system can easily be expanded by installing an optional Red Sea in-cabinet sump. The 12mm thickness of the front panel allows us to avoid using bracing bars, enabling a clean rimless design with smart beveled edges top and bottom. The MAX® E-Series sumps contain multistage filtration consisting of a REEF-SPEC® protein skimmer, activated carbon and mechanical filter materials.
The design of MAX® E skimmers is not affected by the regular fluctuation in the water level of the rear sump due to evaporation and has an adjustable outlet gate to maintain the optimal skimmate consistency which will vary according to actual water conditions. The power center is conveniently located in the cabinet and enables safe and easy control of all of the MAX® sub-systems. This paint looks like regular paint in the daylight and glows neon pink when exposed to blacklight.

I know there are a lot of nice tanks in the club and feel honored you guys think I'm one of them. As much as I am in love with SPS, I cant imagine maintaining a reef without the variation of all sorts of coral. Once I was able to stabilize my parameters and maintenance routine I felt confident enough to attempt keeping truly rare specimens. I had no flow, no sump, no heaters, just an emperor 300 bio-wheel for filtration and a power compact light fixture. The flow is returned to the aquarium via the discrete multidirectional “eye ball” nozzles that can be adjusted to ensure there are no dead spots within the aquarium, preventing harmful detritus from building up on the corals.
The sump has dedicated space available for additional chemical filter media as well as the addition of a chiller. The new skimmer pump and impellor run cooler and quieter than before and the built in silencer on the air intake does a great job of eliminating skimmer noise. Offered with black or white exteriors, all cabinets have a black interior which maintains its clean appearance over time. Ryan (Reefer) really generous guy always had coral to hand out and still lets me borrow equipment.
An all the reefers that have seen my tank and commented on a specific coral it's always been one she picked out. I think I might have gone through every possible freshwater setup (amazonian community and aggressive, brackish, african, fancy goldfish) prior to turning to salt. Colors, shapes, and requirements of all the diverse coral families is what drives my addiction. Everyday I look at my tank thinking its missing something and what can I do to even be a fraction as good as most people on here, so thank you very much.
It's a hobby I really enjoy not only for the beauty of the animals but also for the problem solving that is involved.
Joe and the old PC staff, I'd stop by every week and they'd always have time to talk reef and provided tons of coral and equipment at great prices.
And her never ending (I hope) patience with the amount of time and money I spend on my tank.
Freshwater no longer captivated me as it once had and the mystical world of sea dwelling creatures filled that void. I believe that I am finally content with my collection and plan on doing minimal (theres always room for one more coral right?) addition and removal in the future. Also I'm understocked for my water volume and never read NO3 so I'm able to feed as much as I want. A few years ago my job as an hvac mechanic was no longer the challenge that it used to be and I turned to reefing as a way to prevent boredom. When the fish can't eat anymore I'll add some blended mussels I've shucked juice and all if I feel like the corals are lightening.
Zack (harlquinacro) another early influence that had great advice and watches my tank while I"m away so I don't have to worry about anything.
I love that you can change a parameter in the slightest amount and see a change in the coral. And everyone that posted answers to my questions in the forum and took the time to help and the club as a whole, to have meetings to go to and talk reef.
