I opted against attaching mine, instead choosing to clip my pen on the groove between the keyboard and the display magnet. I will be clipping mine to the groove too as soon as my Best Buy Dark Royal Blue Type Cover comes in. Honestly this is a step back from the Surface Pro, where I got a pen loop (Leuchtturm) and then locked it in the power slot.
Doesn't beat having some kind of holder in the tablet (surely some kind of magnetised slot for the pen clip to slot into could have worked) but it's good to have more options like this.
I've been using a loop like this with my original Surface Pro and it was about 6 bucks and works perfectly well. For all the world it looks like something their product team came up with at the last minute in order to check off a feature box.
You could, I suppose, take the infamous Jobs route and blame the user: "We're putting it on wrong".
Since there'll probably be after market cases, attaching it to the Surface itself would probably cause problems.

First time I used this it fell off in my bag, so did not lose my pen, so I went home and used a little super glue to hold it on, solid as a rock now. The loop is good and all but it would still be better to have a place on the device to place it. Microsoft has IMO achieved the goal to replace two computers (laptop and slate) creating just one device in the Surface 3 Pro but because the digitiser pen has no storage place or a tether point on the pen and device, it will still be really easy to loose the stylus - especially when the loop wears out. A digitiser stylus is essentially a really expensive pen and like all pens it is easy to loose them.
A simple solution would be to include a tether that can be tied in a hole on the stylus as an option on one end and a place to tie the other end of the tether to a hole in the device and put a groove beneath the kick stand - even if there was a little bump in the kick stand it would be okay. So I will continue to enjoy my first generation Surface Pro and pay Microsoft for digitizer pens when I loose them up to number 4 now and even the latest one has a slightly broken button on it! I have attached one to my typecover and one to a tiny (0.75cm long), 64gb usb drive, which I clip into the usb slot when I want to carry the pen around without the typecover. Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. I love the natural look of cork and I've been seeing more and more fashion accessories (including my new flats) made from it too. Starting from one end and making your way around, stitch the two pieces together with embroidery floss, leaving one side open to insert the iPad. I am planning on buying an Ipad for my husband for a graduation gift and I might have to make him something like this for it. I purchased a similar pen loop for my Surface Pro in January from the local Microsoft Store in Phoenix. It doesn't stick well (at least to the cover, I don't know that I'd want to stick it to the SP3 itself) and if it should come off - which has already happened to me - there's no way to stick it back on. And you need to be really careful putting it in and taking it out of a bag because if it catches on anything, bam.
The best place I have found for the pen is to use it's clip to attach to the cover at the top - the coated plastic on the clip should hopefully keep it from scratching the screen but I will keep an eye on it. See my report (and many others, here and elsewhere) - they are already starting to fall off. I like my SP3 a lot and overall this is a pretty small nitpick - but the loop is just plain terrible.

You know, why doesn't MS just put a slot in the Surface that the pen clip could slide into? This place makes a very clean stylus mount that just plugs into the audio port jack on the side.
If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. And thanks to self-adhesive cork sheets, it was really easy to line my iPad case with a patterned fabric (which used to be an old t-shirt), creating my new favorite techcessory for only $10! No problem: Microsoft will sell you a replacement in any of five different colors for just $5.
For those that read this site, there is a chance they may have Surface Pro 2s or Dell Venues. The pen flops around because the other end isn't' anchored anywhere, and it has ripped off the keyboard in my bag. With the Surface Pro I found this to be a necessity because the charging port was needed every few hours to charge the beast and I didn't want to risk losing the stylus. They would have been better off not having one at all instead of giving end users a reason to be annoyed right out of the gate. You can plug it in or remove it as desired and it looks like it should have been included with the Surface Pro 3. The truly fashion conscious would admire the customization and consistency of the covers, loops, and pens. I stuck it to the back of the tablet so the pen would rest on the top out of the way of the on-off switch. All of which would ignore the fundamental fact that an accessory designed to keep the $50 pen attached to the very portable SP3 so it's there when you need it should not be so flimsy.
We have been making them since we were in middle school (6 years ago at least now) and we are wanting to sell what is left of the last of our stock before moving onto our new and exciting venture!!
My understanding is that you get it with a Type Cover purchase, and that the Loop would of course be colored to match the Type Cover, and that you would attach it yourself.
I'm a bit curious if it would work with other materials, perhaps the Surface Pro 3 itself.
