Salt influenced the establishment of trade routes and cities, provoked and financed wars, secured empires and inspired revolutions.
The English word salary derived from sal, the word for salt: Roman soldiers were paid in salt rations. The word salad also originated from sal:  Early Romans salted their leafy greens and vegetables. Salt crystals growing on the walls of a tunnel at the Salina Turda Salt Mine in the town of Turda, Transylvania, Romania, now turned into a museum.  This mine dates from the 17th century. In 2,200 BC, the Chinese emperor Hsia Yu levied one of the first known taxes – on salt. In colonial India during the Raj, only the British government was permitted to make and profit from the salt production conducted by Indian workers living on the coast. In the American colonies under British rule, salt production also played a significant role.
If your interest in the history of salt has been piqued, see History of Salt for more information. I also highly recommend a New York Times bestseller by Mark Kurlansky called  Salt: A World History. Kurlansky is a winner of the James Beard Award for Excellence in Food Writing for Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World. Throughout history, salt was indeed divine – full of trace minerals, unlike the processed table salt generally in use today. Table salt is mined from the earth with bulldozers and other machinery and then heavily refined. It’s soaked in a solution which may contain sulfuric acid or chlorine and various  bleaches.
Unrefined salts contain trace minerals that support the proper functioning of all our bodily systems, including the immune system, glandular system and nervous system. Salt has increasingly been blamed for a number of  health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Most of what we’re told about salt these days is that its consumption needs to be reduced. When salt is chemically cleaned and processed, the trace minerals and electrolytes that naturally occur in unrefined salt are removed as if they were impurities. Chemically processed table salt is inorganic, which means that the chemical bonds are so strong they can’t easily be broken down or metabolized by our bodies.
Processed table salt provides virtually NO benefits for the body and causes numerous health problems. Refined, adulterated salt (a byproduct of the chemical industry) contains only two elements: sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Most statistics on salt intake lump refined table salt with unrefined, unprocessed sea salt – leading salt to be seen as harmful. The ONLY salts the body is able to digest, assimilate, and utilize properly are unrefined, unprocessed sea salt or rock salt.
The addition of iodine to table salt is a real problem, turning the salt our bodies need daily into little more than a poison.
We get iodine from eating fish and shellfish, eggs, cereal grains, legumes, dairy products from cows fed with iodized salt, and some food additives.
Our blood is a 1% sole (water and salt) solution – the same concentration as ocean water. Making sole:Add one one teaspoon of unrefined sea salt to a glass of artesian or spring water and drink before eating or drinking anything. Salt can neutralize acids in our bodies and it can also cancel out harmful electromagnetic vibrations in our environment. It is water and salt that regulates all metabolic functions of the body, including functions of the solid matter itself. Without potassium (which is stripped from processed table salt) and sodium, we could not think or act.
Cells suffering from a dietary deficiency of trace elements lose their ability to control their ions – causing dire consequences on the human body. Ingesting natural sea salt (reconstituted seawater) allows liquids to freely cross body membranes, blood vessels walls, and glomeruli (filter units) of the kidneys.
In addition, healthy kidneys are easily able to remove these natural saline fluids, which is essential for keeping the fluid concentration in the body balanced. Refined salt, in contrast, may pose a great risk to the body by preventing this free crossing of liquids and minerals thereby causing fluids to accumulate and stagnate in the joints, lymphatic ducts, lymph nodes, and kidneys. The dehydrating effect of commercial salt can lead to gallstone formation, weight increase, high blood pressure, and other serious health problems. The Celts, who lived throughout Europe about 1,200 BC to 61 AD, used unrefined sea salt to treat major physical and mental disturbances, severe burns, and other ailments. Research has shown that sea water removes hydro-electrolytic imbalance, a disorder that causes a loss of the immune response, allergies, and numerous other health problems. In recent years, salt has received a bad reputation and people have learned to fear it – in the same mistaken way they fear cholesterol and sunlight. While it is true that consuming processed table sale is likely to have serious health consequences, eating unrefined salt fulfills the body’s need for salt without upsetting the hydro-electrolytic balance.
If your diet contains an adequate amount of potassium in natural form, there’s no cause for concern about being harmed by the relatively small amount of sodium in real sea salt.
Foods that are  high in potassium are bananas, apricots, avocados, pumpkin seeds, beans, potatoes, winter squash, and many other vegetables. However, if potassium levels in the body drop below normal, sodium (even in natural salt) can become a source of imbalance. Dissolving a pinch of sea salt in a small amount of water and adding that to fruit or other foods that are usually eaten raw will aid in their digestion while also helping to de-acidify the body. Adding a pinch of sea salt to drinking water generates desirable alkaline properties and provides you with important minerals and trace elements. Himalayan Pink Salt was formed from marine fossil deposits over 250 million years ago, during the Jurassic Era.
Himalayan sea salt’s high mineral and iron content causes its crystals to range in color from sheer white, varying shades of pink, to deep reds.
It is used to stimulate circulation, relax the body, lower blood pressure, soothe sore muscles, and remove toxins from the body. Regular consumption of Himalayan Pink Salt provides essential minerals and other trace elements, balances electrolytes, supports proper nutrient absorption, eliminates toxins, balances the body’s pH, normalizes blood pressure, and increases circulation and conductivity.
Balances blood sugars. Celtic sea salt helps balance blood sugars so is especially helpful for diabetics. Increases energy. Salt and water are the key elements for the generation of hydro-electric energy in the cells. Builds immunity. Regular intake of natural sea salt and its highly absorptive minerals can provide a higher resistance to illness, infections, and disease. Promotes restful sleep. The abundance of trace minerals in natural sea salt will have a calming effect on the entire nervous system. Prevents muscle cramps. Muscle cramps are often caused by an electrolyte imbalance, especially a lack of sodium. Maldon sea salt is produced by evaporating the salty waters of the Blackwater River that winds through southeast England, in Essex County. Salt has been harvested in Essex for over 2,000 years, when seawater was partially evaporated and then heated in clay pots over open fires. According to the Domesday Book completed in 1086 on orders of William the Conqueror, there were 45 salt pans operating in the Maldon area and 100’s more across the county. All the other salt makers were taxed out of existence, leaving Maldon as the last survivor of this long history of high quality salt making.
Unrefined Maldon salt crystals are mild tasting, crunchy, and retain high levels of the trace minerals and elements the human body needs to function properly.
Fleur de Sel is also  very high in mineral content, due to the well-controlled evaporation process of the paludiers (salt rakers) who harvest it from the pans where the sea water is evaporated. Type 2 diabetes is now also largely viewed as the result of a different type of  autoimmune reaction: one in which B and T immune cells cause inflammation in the fatty tissue surrounding organs in the body. In Type 1 diabetes, which used to be called juvenile diabetes, the immune system mistakenly kills off pancreatic cells that make the blood-sugar-regulating hormone insulin. In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas usually produces enough insulin but the cells in the body have become unable to make effective use of the hormone, a condition called insulin resistance.
Type 2 diabetes is associated with obesity, older age, family history of gestational diabetes, and physical inactivity. A prediabetic condition indicates the amount of glucose in the blood is above normal but not yet high enough to be called diabetes. DEATHS:  Based on the 69,071 death certificates in which diabetes was listed as the underlying cause of death in 2010, diabetes was the 7th leading cause of death in the United States that year. About 208,000 Americans under age 20 are estimated to have diagnosed diabetes, approximately 0.25% of that population.
In 2008—2009, the annual incidence of diagnosed diabetes in youth was estimated at 18,436 with Type 1 diabetes, 5,089 with Type 2 diabetes. Researchers are discovering changes in normal gut bacteria that take place before either Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes turns into a clinical condition.
A team of scientists led by Dr Ben Boursi, a Post Doctoral Researcher in Gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, found people who have taken multiple courses of antibiotics were 37% more likely to develop Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Several studies in humans have shown that early childhood exposure to antibiotics is associated with increased risk of obesity in later life – and obesity has long been recognized as risk for developing diabetes.
The Boursi team’s future research will focus on identifying the species of gut bacteria necessary to prevent and reverse diabetes, potentially working towards the possibility of transplanting prebiotic and probiotic microbes into the gut as a therapeutic strategy for diabetes.
A research team led by Dr Elena Barengolts, an Endocrinologist at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, found irregularities in the composition of the probiotic bacteria in the guts of prediabetic patients: Compared with subjects whose glucose tolerance was good, the prediabetics had fewer and less diverse populations of bacteria living in their gut microbiomes. The study found that men whose blood sugar control  remained normal over the year (Group 1) had higher numbers of beneficial gut bacteria while the men who continued to be prediabetic had fewer beneficial bacteria and higher numbers of harmful bacteria in their guts. Furthermore, the group whose blood sugar management improved over the course of the year (Group 4) had a higher number of a strain of healthy bacteria (Akkermansia) than the group who had maintained normal blood sugar control over the year (Group 1).
At the phylum level, this study found significant differences in the bacterial composition between Groups 1 and 2: Group 2 (people with impaired but stable fasting glucose or glucose tolerance) had higher levels of Bacteroidetes and lower levels of Firmicutes than people in Group 1. The number of Proteobacteria decreased over the 12-month study period in Groups 2 and 4 compared with Group 1. Barengolts notes, “Changes in the gut microbiota occur in the early stage of diabetes development. Other studies are currently underway in Italy and China investigating gut bacterial transplants as a treatment for diabetes. A small study followed 33 babies from Finland and Estonia who were at increased genetic risk for developing Type 1 diabetes. By age three, four of the children developed Type 1 diabetes.  Huge alterations in the gut microbes of those those four children were seen about a year before onset of the disease.
Researcher Dr Aleksandar Kostic, a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Biology and Experimental Biology at MIT and Harvard, hopes the study’s results will lead to an early diagnostic test for Type 1 diabetes.

Given what we already know about the gut microbiome’s role in keeping the body in a balanced state so it remains healthy, it makes sense to focus on diet and nutritional supplements for preventing and treating diabetes.
For example, we know there is considerable variation among people in the microbes that live in and on us. The following is from an easy to read summary of changes in the various human microbiomes from birth through old age. Chronic diseases, especially autoimmune ones, are only 25% determined by genetic inheritance.
If we know that both the composition and abundance of micro-organisms living in our guts  change over the course of a lifetime, shouldn’t it be possible to learn how to make deliberate changes to our gut microbiome – changes that prevent diabetes from developing even if we have a genetic predisposition for it?
Almost all so-called foods that come in a bottle, can, jar, bag, or box have had sugars added to them, usually in the form of high fructose corn syrup.
Grains turn into sugar in your body, sharply raising your glucose and insulin levels, and contribute to insulin resistance.
Consuming a lot of refined grains (and even whole grains) is also highly inflammatory for another reason:  Humans are designed to eat a diet containing a ratio of 1 or 2 parts of Omega-6 essential fatty acids to every 1 part of Omega-3.
Better alternatives to grains are non-GMO almond meal, coconut flour, buckwheat groats, and sweet potatoes. Eat fewer saturated and trans fats (unhealthy) and more mono and poly unsaturated fats (healthy).  Examples of healthy fats include avocado, butter made from raw grass-fed organic milk, cheese, raw dairy, organic pastured eggs, raw nuts, grass-fed meats, and coconut oil. Due to the high percentage of nutrient-poor foods, refined carbohydrates, bad fats, and refined sugars in the Standard American Diet (SAD), along with consumption of multiple OTC and prescription pharmaceuticals, we are far from getting the optimal ratio of 1:1 for Omega-6s (inflammatory) and Omega-3s (anti-inflammatory). Vitamin D3 is vitally important for healthy immune functioning – and most of us are seriously D3 deficient.
Exposure of the skin to sunshine (without sunscreen), salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, cod liver oil, egg yolks, cheeses, butter, shiitake and button mushrooms, sunflower seeds and sprouts, and high quality supplements. See The Real RDA for Vitamin D Is 10 Times Higher Than Currently Recommended for information on how how the RDA for Vitamin D should be correctly calculated and how to get an adequate amount of it. See Alzheimer’s and Vitamin D Deficiency and Whole Food Supplements (Bio-available) vs OTC (Synthetic) Vitamins for additional information on Vitamin D3. The increase in new cases may be due in part to a greater awareness of the disorder and more people being tested for it.
Again, this is a very good review and my comments aren’t meant to be suggestions to change anything. The short answer is that NON-GMO plant foods are ones that have not been genetically modified and NON-GMO animals are ones that have not been fed genetically engineered grains or other plants.
GMO foods have been genetically engineered, for reasons completely unrelated to health or nourishment, to withstand heavy applications of potent herbicides like Monsanto’s Roundup (a glyphosate-based weed killer). Glyphosate  causes serious damage to the beneficial microbes living in our guts (our gut microbiome) and is regarded by many scientists as the most important factor in the development of the many chronic diseases and conditions plaguing Westernized societies. England, France, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, China, Indonesia, and more than 25 other countries around the world require GE foods to be labeled so consumers can choose to avoid them. Monsanto and the other big biotech companies have joined together to spend huge sums of money to make sure these GMO foods remain unlabeled in the US. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) has declared genetically engineered food unsafe for consumption. Studies of people in the US and Germany have found high levels of glyphosate in human urine, blood, and breast milk as well as in drinking water supplies. No matter how the Standard American Diet is represented, it’s clearly bad news for our health. The Standard American Diet is how the vast majority of Americans eat.  It is characterized by high intake of sweets, animal products, cooking oils, high-fat and processed  foods. It is well known that factory farmed and processed foods are more likely to cause illness than organically grown, unprocessed foods. The Standard American Diet is high in refined sugars and red meat, both of which severely acidify the body, producing inflammation – the gateway to many serious ailments.
We all know that adult and childhood obesity has become a serious health issue in the US and elsewhere. Chicken McNuggets, introduced by McDonald’s in 1983,  consist of small pieces of processed chicken meat that have been battered and deep fried.
Battered and breaded with bleached wheat flour, water, modified food starch, salt, spices, wheat gluten, paprika, dextrose (sugar), yeast, garlic powder, rosemary, partially hydrogenated soybean oil and cottonseed oil with mono- and diglycerides, leavening (sodium acid pyrophosphate, baking soda, ammonium bicarbonate, monocalcium phosphate), natural flavor (plant source) with extractives of paprika. Fried in vegetable oil (canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid). See INFLAMMATION to read more about how the Standard American Diet adversely affects  our health. See GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS – OUR FOOD  for more information on the problems with consuming genetically engineered foods.
DISCLAIMER:  Nothing on this site or blog is intended to provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. A new EWG report found that Big Food groups opposed to labeling foods that contain genetically engineered ingredients disclosed $9 MILLION in lobbying expenditures that made reference to GE labeling in the first quarter of 2014 – nearly as much as they spent in all of 2013!
95 percent of Americans support GE labeling, and states across the country are moving to pass laws that require it. If you have the least interest in why our health is so compromised, Katie Couric’s new film FED UP is definitely worth watching. FED UP shines a bright light on how it came to be that, after decades of concentrating on  fitness and healthy eating,  obesity and the serious problems resulting from it continue to get worse.
From Katie Couric,  Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) and director Stephanie Soechtig, FED UP will change the way you eat forever.
Individuals who drink one to two sugar-sweetened beverages per day have a 26 percent higher risk for developing type II diabetes. Latino children who watch Spanish-language television see 49 percent more ads  for sugary and energy drinks compared with their white counterparts.
One in five black children ages 2 to 19 is obese, compared with approximately one in seven white Children.
Some of the most moving parts of FED UP come near the end when two of the families with seriously obese children the film has been following get the message and switch from consuming diets based on processed foods to diets consisting largely of fresh foods. The Peng-Tzao-Kan-Mu, the earliest known treatise on pharmacology, was published in China about 4,700 years ago. It was a valuable trade commodity between the Phoenicians and the lands of their Mediterranean empire. The plentiful salt deposit was a decisive factor in the development of the prosperous town of Turda in ancient Roman times. The Chinese government, like many others over time, made salt taxes a major revenue source. In 13th century Tibet, Marco Polo observed that tiny cakes of salt were pressed with images of the Grand Khan and used as coins.
In March 1930, Gandhi protested the British monopoly and marched to the coast  with his followers.
The first patent to produce salt in the colonies was held by the  Massachusetts Bay Colony, which continued to produce it for the next 200 years. To make this salt resistant to the re-absorption of moisture, increasing its shelf-life and making it more convenient for consumers to use in salt shakers, processors add desiccants (anti-caking agents).
Then it’s heated to a temperature that removes all the minerals and other trace elements that our bodies need to function. It no longer has the ability to combine with our body fluids, so undermines necessary, basic chemical and metabolic processes. It’s added to almost all manufactured foods and most food eaten in or purchased from restaurant chains and other restaurants. For optimal health, 25% of our food intake must digest as acidic and 75% of our food intake must digest as alkaline. If your body does not have enough alkaline reserves to neutralize excess acid, your bones come to your rescue. For salt to be useful to the body, it needs to penetrate foods – that is, dissolve in the moisture of our food. The other 93% is used by industry, which requires chemically pure sodium chloride for the manufacture of explosives, chlorine gas, baking soda, fertilizers and plastics. When the natural salt concentration rises in the blood, the salt will readily combine with the fluids in the neighboring tissues.
Natural salt, saliva and gastric secretions combine to break down the fibrous parts of carbohydrate foods. Too little can cause spasms, irregular heart rhythms, sudden death and even increase the risk of heart attack in hypertensive patients.
It contains over 84 minerals and trace elements – such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron. Himalayan Salt can be used for cooking, in bath salt recipes, body scrubs, aromatherapy, and handmade soaps. It’s helpful for arthritis, skin rashes, psoriasis, herpes, and flue and fever symptoms. It supplies, in bio-available form, all 82 trace minerals needed by the human body for optimal health.
Celtic salt helps eliminate existing mucus buildup and also helps prevent it – making it very helpful for people with allergies, asthma, sinus issues, or bronchial congestion. For problems with water retention, gradual sea salt intake can help to release the excess water stored in body tissue. It can also help your body to heal faster after an injury or surgery and aids in relieving skin conditions. In addition, the proper ratio of water and salt consumption can help to prevent the need to urinate during the night.

These vital trace minerals are needed to promote optimum biological function and cellular maintenance. The water is filtered and carefully evaporated to create pyramid-shaped crystals that have a large surface area but are very thin and light in texture. When all the water was gone, the pots were broken open to reveal the resulting salt crystals. The Guild of Salt Makers was founded in 1394 and its sign, the three cups, is still seen in Essex. A small amount of harvested reddish Hawaiian clay (Alae) enriches the salt with iron oxide.
Good for roasting or grilling meats, it’s the traditional seasoning for native Hawaiian dishes such as Kalua Pig, Hawaiian Jerky, and Poke.
Insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas) must also be present in the blood for glucose to be able to make it into our cells to nourish them. The inflammation occurs when rapidly growing fat cells outstrip their blood supply and begin to die off. The body’s immune system attacks and destroys these pancreatic cells so they no longer make enough insulin.
Prediabetic people are at greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
In 2010, diabetes was also mentioned as a cause of death in a total of 234,051 certificates. Studies have found that only about 35% to 40% of people with diabetes who died had diabetes listed anywhere on the death certificate and only about 10-15% had it listed as the underlying cause of death.
Since we now know that 70-80% of our immune system is located in our GI tract, where digestion takes place, you can see how a serious imbalance in the bacterial make up of the gut microbiome could lead to the development of diabetes in people with a genetic predisposition for it. The team also found the greater the number of courses of antibiotics, the higher the risk for developing diabetes.
Proteobacteria are a major phylum of gram-negative bacteria that include a variety of pathogens – such as Escherichia, Salmonella, Vibrio, Helicobacter, and Yersinia. Group 2 also had fewer   Enterobacteriaceae (a large family of  bacteria that includes the pathogens Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Yersinia pestis, Klebsiella and Shigella) and  more Ruminococcae and Veillonellaceae. Analysis of their stool samples charted changes in the multitude of microorganisms living in their guts. As with the men in the veterans’ study, there was a marked drop in the diversity of the overall microbial community.
Just like our fingerprints vary, we vary in the microbial species we have as well as their relative abundancies.
Many grains also contain gluten, which triggers inflammation in the intestines, leading to a state of chronic inflammation in the body and autoimmune diseases. This ratio is what we get when we eat real, unprocessed, highly nutritious foods – non-GMO veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, and pastured animals. Unless we work mostly naked outdoors in a sunny climate without slathering our skin with sunscreen, we can benefit greatly from adding a high quality D3 supplement to our daily diets. 8-10 hours of sitting a day, even if you exercise 30-60 minutes daily and are very fit, promotes dozens of chronic diseases – including obesity and Type 2 diabetes. When you stop moving and sit still for extended periods of time, it’s like telling your body to shut down and prepare for death.
These cellular mechanisms are also responsible for pushing fuels into your cells and, if done regularly, will radically decrease your risk of diabetes and obesity. Dr Fraser is an experienced board certified endocrinologist and Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA.
This ratio is what we get when we eat real, unprocessed, highly nutritious foods – non-GMO veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, and pastured animals. GMOs are created using the gene-splicing techniques of biotechnology to inject DNA from one species into another species, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that don’t occur in nature or through crossbreeding methods. England, Japan, Brazil, Norway, India, Thailand and some other countries have even completely banned some GE food crops. An overly acidic diet is at the core of many symptoms such as fatigue, digestive imbalances, emotional imbalances and anxiety. The second-most plentiful ingredient in the McDonald’s Sweet Chili Sauce shown below is sugar. A large portion of it was devoted to a discussion of the medicinal uses for more than 40 kinds of salt.
Water retention, kidney and blood pressure problems, gall stones, and many other serious health problems can result from refined salt consumption. In this case, when you take in table salt your body sees it as a poison and tries to get rid of it as quickly as possible. If salt is used in its dry state, it enters the body in a non-ionized form and creates thirst – a sign of being poisoned. As much as 75% of the body’s iodine is stored in the thyroid glad and used to produce hormones regulating metabolism. This can lead to nervous disorders, brain damage, or muscle spasms, as well as a breakdown of the cell-regenerating process.
This, in turn, will allow the cells to derive more nourishment from the enriched intracellular fluid.
In its dissolved and ionized form, salt facilitates the digestive process and sanitizes the GI tract. However, to live a salt-free life means suffering from an increased risk of mineral and trace mineral deficiencies, as well as from numerous related complications. This salt is recognized for its beautiful pink color, high mineral content, and its therapeutic properties. Natural salt with adequate water intake can help to stabilize irregular heartbeats and normalize blood pressure. It supports the health of nerve cells and their ability to communicate and process information.
Your body will take what it needs and get rid of the rest, as long as you are drinking enough water.
In Type 1 diabetes, the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. These dying cells spew out their contents, and macrophages (another type of immune cell) are called in to clean up the dead cells.
So, as in Type 1 diabetes, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being properly delivered to the cells in the body where they’re needed for fuel. Unfortunately, Type 2 diabetes is also increasingly being seen in younger people, even children and teens.
Their intestinal bacteria were measured by stool samples at the start of the study and again 12 months later. This drop in gut diversity was accompanied by spikes in inflammation-favoring organisms, gene functions, and serum and stool metabolites. By the time we enter kindergarten, we have vastly different populations living in the different habitats around our bodies. Research also shows that artificial sweeteners promote diabetes and weight gain by disrupting your gut microbiome.
Our typical diet now has come to contain 10 to 20 parts Omega-6 to every part Omega-3 – producing a highly inflammatory state in the body. As soon as you stand up, a number of molecular cascades occur that promote and support healthy biological functioning. In 2014, 18 million farmers in 28 countries planted biotech crops, with the highest acreage by far here in the US. Adding foods to our daily diet that alkalinize the blood, urine and saliva can help restore balance and health again. Thinness can belie a dangerous concentration of visceral fat inside the body surrounding the vital organs and a fatty liver.
Marc Ching and the PetStaurant use dietary changes, herbs, and homeopathy to cure ailments and help animals suffering from diseases. This Salt March to Dandi, or the Salt Satyagraha, encouraged people across India to begin making their own salt in protest, and the march became an important milestone in the struggle for Indian independence from British rule. And during the American in 1812 Civil War, the Union Army captured significant Confederate salt works, creating a serious salt shortage in the southern states.
Because the body’s concern is with what it need in the present, not what it will need in the future, it takes calcium from your bones to neutralize the acid. In other words, if you have low blood pressure, taking Celtic sea salt can help to raise it. These changes in gut microbial levels did not occur in the at risk children who didn’t progress to Type 1 diabetes.
Even differences in our genes influence our microbial populations—indirectly by affecting things like the acidity of the digestive tract, and also more directly through variations in proteins on our cells that communicate with microbes.
You may have a genetic predisposition for diabetes but also have a large say in whether your DNA expresses that predisposition in your body.
When we eat a meal that is overly acidic, the body must neutralize the acid and regulate the alkalinity of the blood – which it accomplishes by taking organic sodium from its alkaline reserves. Ancient Greek slave traders bartered salt for slaves – giving rise to the expression that someone was not worth his salt.
