I came up with this recipe for healthier allergen-friendly chicken strips when Me+My™ reached out to me to partake in their 30-Day Trust Your Gut challenge.
I use digestive enzymes myself and recommend them to many of my clients who also have dealt with digestive issues. I was excited to bring the digestive enzymes on my trip to Europe as travelling can bring challenges when it comes to eating. During our trip and now in the last few weeks since I’ve been home I’ve been using Me+My™ Digest Results™ with meals that are a bit heavier, or dinners and lunches that contain meat, as meat protein can be harder to digest. While these chicken strips are made with healthy, whole-food ingredients like chicken breast, almond flour, spices, and egg, the amount of dietary protein and fats they contain does create some extra work for the digestive system. If you’ve ever felt bloated, gassy, or overly full even though you didn’t overeat after a meal, you may benefit from digestive enzymes to help your body break down the proteins, carbohydrates, and fats in that meal.
When I use Digest Results™ I find that I feel great after, no bloating, and the next day (hopefully this isn’t TMI), my morning trip to the porcelain throne is always top notch! Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by Enzymedica but as always the thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own. Definitely agree with you–the more processed the food, the harder it is to digest it! WELCOME TO NUTRITIONIST IN THE KITCH, MY FAVOURITE PLACE TO SHARE SIMPLE AND HEALTHY WHOLE-FOOD RECIPES, INFORMATION ON HOLISTIC NUTRITION, AND TIPS ON HOW TO INTEGRATE HEALTHY EATING INTO YOUR LIFE! Genes make all the proteins and enzymes that work in cells and tissues throughout the body, for example, to digest fat or to make energy available to muscle. Southern blot testing determines the presence or absence of a specific nucleotide sequence within different sized fragments of DNA. Direct gene testing can be performed when scientists know exactly where a gene is located on a chromosome and what changes in the gene cause a specific disease. Clinical Pearl: In general, conditions with common mutations and high penetrance, and whose diagnosis results in a change in management are the best candidates for testing. Diagnostic testing is used to confirm or rule out a known or suspected genetic disorder in a symptomatic individual. DNA testing may yield diagnostic information at a lower cost and with less risk than other procedures. Diagnostic testing of an individual may have reproductive or psychosocial implications for other family members as well. Predictive testing is offered to asymptomatic individuals with a family history of a genetic disorder. Predictive testing is MEDICALLY INDICATED if early diagnosis allows interventions which reduce morbidity or mortality.
Even in the absence of medical indications, predictive testing can influence life planning decisions. Because predictive testing can have psychological ramifications, careful patient assessment, counseling, and follow-up are important.
Many laboratories will not proceed with predictive testing without proof of informed consent and genetic counseling.
Identification of the specific gene mutation in an affected relative or establishment of linkage within the family should precede predictive testing.
Predictive testing of asymptomatic children at risk for adult onset disorders is strongly discouraged when no medical intervention is available (ACMG Policy Statement). Carrier testing is performed to identify individuals who have a gene mutation for a disorder inherited in an autosomal recessive or X-linked recessive manner. Genetic counseling and education should accompany carrier testing because of the potential for personal and social concerns. Molecular genetic testing of an affected family member may be required to determine the disease-causing mutation(s) present in the family . Carrier testing can improve risk assessment for members of racial and ethnic groups more likely to be carriers for certain genetic conditions. A laboratory that performs the disease-specific test of interest must be identified before any prenatal diagnostic test procedure is offered.
All prenatal diagnostic test procedures have an associated risk to the fetus and the pregnancy; therefore, informed consent is required, most often in conjunction with genetic counseling. In most cases, before prenatal diagnosis using molecular genetic testing can be offered, specific gene mutation(s) must be identified in an affected relative or carrier parent(s). Preimplantation testing is performed on early embryos resulting from in vitro fertilization in order to decrease the chance of a particular genetic condition occurring in the fetus. Preimplantation testing is only performed at a few centers and is only available for a limited number of disorders.
Preimplantation testing is not possible in some cases due to difficulty in obtaining eggs or early embryos and problems with DNA analysis procedures.
Due to possible errors in preimplantation diagnosis, traditional prenatal diagnostic methods are recommended to monitor these pregnancies.
Newborn screening identifies individuals who have an increased chance of having a specific genetic disorder so that treatment can be started as soon as possible.
Newborn screening is performed routinely at birth, unless specifically refused by the parents in writing. Screening tests are not designed to be diagnostic, but to identify individuals who may be candidates for further diagnostic tests. Many parents do not realize that newborn screening has been done (or which tests were included), even if they signed a consent form when their child was born. Education is necessary with positive screening results in order to avoid misunderstandings, anxiety and discrimination.
The practical application of genetic test information depends on some mitigating factors, such as genetic heterogeneity, penetrance, and variable expressivity. Genetic heterogeneity: Simply put, this means that different mutations can cause the same disease.

Mutations also can be in the same or in different genes, and some may act in a dominant fashion, or others recessive.
Gene Penetrance: 100% penetrance means that every person with a mutation will have the disease.
Variable Expressivity: Severity can vary widely for some diseases, even among affected individuals in the same family. Sensitivity – the proportion of people with a clinically significant disease (or who will get a disease) that are correctly identified by the test.
Enzymes are biological molecules that act as catalysts and help complex reactions occur everywhere in life. Enzymes may also be able to reduce side effects seen with conventional therapies including chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
TYPES OF ENZYMESProtease is the enzyme responsible for breaking down and digesting protein.
ADDITIONAL TYPES OF DIGESTIVE SUPPORTIn conjunction with enzymes and probiotics for dogs, there are other elements to consider for digestive support that strengthen the body’s gastrointestinal system such as nucleotides and anti-oxidant Maqui berry. NucleotidesNucleotides are the natural building blocks of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) and are vital for cell division and duplication. Powerful Anti-oxidant Maqui berry (Chilean wineberry)Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of Maqui berry found in the Chilean forests are scientifically acknowledged. A POSITIVE CHOICEIt’s hard to deny the benefits of using the combination of probiotics and enzymes together with nucleotides and anti-oxidant Maqui berry after understanding how together they encourage the body to properly digest foods and correctly absorb the nutrients that strengthen and improve overall health. It was always my choice order whenever I went to a restaurant with my family, and as a teenager I must admit I frequented a lot of fast-food joints to get the chicken strips with all the different dips…especially ketchup and some kind of creamy onion dip! As a child, growing up in my teen years, and even into my early 20’s digestive issues weren’t uncommon. I knew I would be enjoying some more indulgent meals and I would have less assurance in knowing that the food I was eating was in fact dairy and gluten free (language barriers and dining out is always iffy!).
Typically digestive enzymes should not be used for extended periods of time, not because the body becomes reliant, but because there is a possibility that the body could become hypersensitive.
I love that you took such an amazing fast-food favorite and healthified it in the best way! If that sequence is present in a patient’s sample, the probe will bind to it and light up under a fluorescent microscope. Biochemical testing can be used to look for the presence (or absence) of proteins or enzymes, their quantity (extra, sufficient, reduced, absent), or their structure (normal vs. Indirect testing requires blood from several family members, including those that are known to be carriers or affected with a specific condition. Prenatal diagnostic tests are offered when there is an increased risk of having a child with a genetic condition due to maternal age, family history, ethnicity, or suggestive multiple marker screen or fetal ultrasound examination. Individuals seeking prenatal diagnosis for these conditions should be referred to a professional trained in genetic counseling for a complete discussion of the issues (ACMG Policy Statement).
It is generally offered to couples with a high chance of having a child with a serious disorder. For example, there are dominant, recessive, and X-linked forms of Charcot Marie Tooth disease.
Huntington’s disease (a fatal, adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder) and achondroplasia (the most common form of dwarfism) are examples of conditions with complete penetrance. For example, current cystic fibrosis tests pick up about 90% or mutations in white, 50% in African Americans and Hispanics, and on 30% in Asian Americans. Probiotics for dogs acts as dog immune booster and antioxidants (inhibiting the destructive effects of oxidation), providing overall improved quality of life and longevity. They are created by the body for proper digestion as to appropriately break down food into essential nutrients.
DNA and RNA are nucleic acids, and play various biological roles in coding, decoding, regulation, and expression of genes. Nucleotides actually increase the length of the intestinal villi (small, finger-like projections that protrude from the epithelial lining of the intestinal wall) in the small intestine to aid in absorption of nutrients, further assisting probiotics in digestion. Because of the high anti-oxidant levels (significantly higher than other fruits and almost three times higher than that of Acai berries!), the oxygen radical absorbance capacity of Maqui berries is very high. By adding the extra benefits of nucleotides and Maqui berry to the mix, the digestive system and gut can function without struggle or stress.

A delicious and healthy recipe for what could normally be indulgent chicken strips and a new supplement to add into your daily repertoire to help boost your digestion!
What I usually recommend to my clients is that they use enzymes for about 1 month, then go off for a few weeks, then use them again for another month then reassess the need. FISH also can be used to detect chromosome rearrangements, marker chromosomes (extra pieces of unidentified chromosomal material), and duplications or deletions of large pieces of DNA. Bands on the film indicate the presence of a DNA piece of interest, and the length of the DNA fragment where it resides. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) recommend that CF carrier screening be offered to all couples when at least one member of the couple is Caucasian and pregnant or considering pregnancy. Because DNA contains pieces, called markers, that are unique to individuals and families, laboratories can find the markers unique to a family with a genetic disease.
Carrier testing is offered to individuals who have family members with a genetic condition, family members of an identified carrier, and individuals in ethnic or racial groups known to have a higher carrier rate for a particular condition.
Routine prenatal diagnostic test procedures are amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS). Preimplantation testing provides an alternative to prenatal diagnosis and termination of affected pregnancies. There are more than 1,000 mutations in the CFTR gene that are known to cause disease, but most tests look for around 100 of the most common mutations.

In diseases with multiple modes of inheritance, the family history provides invaluable information that will lead you to the correct diagnostic test.
Even though we know that three copies of chromosome 21 will result in Down syndrome, we can’t make reliable predictions about how severely any one individual patient may be affected.
With an insufficient breakdown, the body is unable to absorb these nutrients correctly and reap the benefits. The supplementation of nucleotides will increase the resistance to viral and bacterial infections in pets. Maqui berry can prevent conditions related to inflammation like diarrhea, limiting gastrointestinal upset and arthritis.
I never really made the connection with food and how I felt until I ventured into my career as a Nutritionist. Often once the root issues of the impaired digestive function are addressed (stress, lack of sleep, food intolerances or sensitivities, high sugar intake, lack of good bacteria) the need for the enzymes is no longer there. Southern blotting is often used to determine the size of trinucleotide repeat expansions or large scale deletions.
More specialized procedures include placental biopsy, periumbilical blood sampling (PUBS), and fetoscopy with fetal skin biopsy.
Therefore, a negative test result does not mean that a patient’s risk status has changed. The breast cancer susceptibility genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, for example, show incomplete penetrance. This stress initiates several problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, and overall poor vitality. Acidophilus is is one of the most commonly used probiotics microorganisms that are used to promote health. Dogs and cats unlike humans do not produce all of the enzymes necessary to process their food. They are the building blocks, essential to the creation of new DNA and RNA molecules, which are then used by new cells of all kinds. Other benefits of nucleotides include positive effects on the intestines intestinal repair after diarrhea, acceleration of antibody production and positive effects of recovery from stress.
Maqui berry is found to regulate blood glucose levels and help glucose tolerance important for regulation of healthy weight.
David Williams, Feb 6, 2014, What's the Difference Between a Probiotic and a Digestive Enzyme? Then, I usually recommend using them only with heavy meals such as out at a restaurant or if you go to a wedding and might eat a bit more than usual. It is further recommended by ACOG and ACMG that CF screening be made available to individuals of other racial and ethnic groups. In fact, their bodies are designed in such a way to receive the digestive enzymes from the food they eat if food is eaten live.
For a dog or cat or any other animal, to continue to live, grow and develop, it must create new cells all the time, to replace dying cells.
In an assembly line have the sliced chicken, the egg mixture, and the almond flour mixture and start by taking 1 chicken strip, dipping it in the egg mixture, then tossing it in the almond flour mixture to lightly coat, then setting it on the baking sheet. When it comes to pregnancies, certain supplements like digestive enzymes can be used, but there is often a warning that there hasn’t been sufficient research done to show if there are any issues with using them. Acidophilus is used to treat and prevent diarrhea, yeast infections and even urinary tract infections. Dogs receive this enzyme from their mother while nursing, but as adults, some do not produce enough.
Maqui berry aids in cell repair and can provide relief for kidneys pains, stomach ulcers and even fever.
So I usually recommend avoiding regular usage of the digestive enzymes during pregnancy and instead supplementing with a good quality probiotic! As a result, like humans, some dogs cannot handle foods like yogurt that can cause flatulence, bloat and diarrhea. Bake the chicken strips for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges. Plantarum is used for its anti-inflammatory benefits and is understood to also improve liver status in humans. Add the cashews to a small food processor along with the rest of the dip ingredients and process until smooth.
Plantarum has significant antioxidant activities and also helps to maintain the healthy intestinal permeability (which allows nutrients to pass through the gut, while also maintaining a barrier function to keep potentially harmful substances (e.g. Spicy Ketchup: Add the ketchup to a small bowl and stir in the cayenne until well combined, place back in the fridge. Clemmons, DVM, PhD, 1997, Integrative Treatment of Dogs with Arthritis such as Canine Hip Dysplasia. When the chicken strips are done, add to a plate and sprinkle with chopped chives to garnish, serve with both dips, and enjoy! Furthermore, a small preliminary study in dogs also noted its anti-inflammatory purposes for canine gingival inflammation. Brevis beneficial bacteria by test animals showed a marked suppression of colonic tumor formation and reduction of DNA damage.
Lactis) supports and strengthens the function of its fellow probiotics and is an excellent antidote for diarrhea and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Lactis colonizes the GI tract by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of pathogenic bacteria boosting your dog health.
