Whenever you're out and someone mentions tequila, you're most likely going to think of an awful blackout and an even worse hangover.
Look at this list as valid excuses as to why you should pound a few tequila shots back this weekend. Sure, one would think that tequila is the number one alcohol that will give you a crazy hangover, but it's not entirely true. You wouldn't think of tequila as a skin cleanser, but it actually works wonders when it's used as such. Tequila has astringent properties that remove excess dirt and oil from the skin.
I'm sure no one would think about applying tequila to your skin – but you might want to try it.
Those of us living in developed countries where we have multiple food choices often focus on our calorie intake while neglecting the health of our gut microbiome – the vast numbers and variety of microorganisms inside our intestines.
And another graphic depicting how damage to the gut’s mucosal lining allows undigested food particles and toxins to escape into the body, where they cause an inflammatory response.
See INCREASED GUT PERMEABILITY – CAUSES & CONSEQUENCES  for more information on Leaky Gut and some great images of what the inside walls of our intestines look like.
Now that we’ve covered the importance of the probiotic microorganisms living in your gut microbiome, I hope you’re ready for some really good news! It’s about polyphenols and how they can help us repair our overall health by restoring the health of our gut linings. Polyphenols are anti-oxidant micro-nutrients derived from a variety of plants that increase the amount of good bacteria (probiotics) and inhibit  the amount of bad bacteria in our guts. Strong evidence is accumulating that polyphenols’ play an important role in preventing degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Now a start up company in California, Greenteaspoon, has formulated a combination of nutrients called Preliva™ from plant extracts rich in polyphenols.
Preliva™, the proprietary active formula in Good Gut Daily, is made from plant extracts rich in bio-available polyphenols. Good Gut Daily Natural Immune Health is formulated to strengthen your immunity and support your overall well-being. Good Gut Daily Natural Immune Health is for people actively trying to improve and manage their ongoing immune health.
Good Gut Daily Natural Digestive Health is designed to help you manage your ongoing digestive issues. Double strength Good Gut Rescue rapidly soothes the symptoms of digestive distress, alleviating occasional diarrhea, upset stomach, gas and bloating. Good Gut Rescue is for children and adults ages 2 and up with acute digestive issues like gastroenteritis, travelers sickness, diarrhea, gas and bloating or upset stomach. All the versions of Good Gut Daily contain NO calories, sugar, gluten, soy, dairy, or GMOs – and come with a 30-day money back guarantee. Remember: If your gut microbiome is balanced and healthy, the rest of your body will be a nice happy place to live too.
My experience with Good Gut Daily is that it greatly improved my GI health (which had become bad again a few months ago) in just a few days (4 to be exact) – alone, without taking any of my usual PRObiotics or other nutritional supplements.
I started with a single 1-oz dose of Good Gut Daily’s Natural Digestive Health (the Mango-Passion Fruit flavor) and then increased to 1 oz in the AM (on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before breakfast)  + another 1 oz 30 minutes before dinner. You should choose the unpasteurized type of Sauerkraut as pasteurization might kill active, good bacteria. Whilst they may be good for the human digestion, not all probiotics could survive the journey through the stomach and intestines. January 28, 2015BIMUNO PRe-bioticAnxiety, Bifidobacteria, Bimuno, Bimuno Feeds Good Gut Bacteria, C diff & Anxiety, C.
I was looking for a non-pharmaceutical way to help my anxious and OCD patients so asked my supplements guru, David Miller, MD at LifeThyme (a health food store in NYC). It comes as sachets of tasteless powder to sprinkle over food or add to drinks and also as soft chewable pastilles.
Bimuno® is a new PREbiotic product that feeds the good, PRObiotic bacteria living in our guts (such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria) to the detriment of the bad bacteria (pathogens). PREBIOTICS are specialized plant fibers containing complex sugars (such as inulin,  fructo-ogliosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides) that are indigestible by humans but promote the growth of beneficial bacteria (PROBIOTICS) living in our gut microbiomes by serving as food for them. PROBIOTICS are helpful, live bacteria and yeasts our bodies need to function and maintain good health.
Sometimes PREBIOTICS and PROBIOTICS are combined in the same supplements, called SYNBIOTICS.
See my earlier posts Prebiotics and Probiotics and  PREbiotics and PREbiotics for more information.
It selectively boosts Bifidobacteria which play a key role in immune function and maintaining and building a healthy digestive system. Bimuno is the result of many years of intensive research by a team of international digestive health experts and the University of Reading. Bimuno® original powder is the natural way to increase and energise your good gut bacteria helping you to manage your gut health.  Bimuno works in a similar way to prebiotics naturally found in human breast milk which promote a healthy bacterial balance within the gut. Scientific studies indicate that the unique second generation Galacto-oligosaccharide formulation of Bimuno powder, can help to encourage and sustain a healthy level of your friendly gut bacteria(Bifidobacteria). Published scientific studies have shown that, with daily use, the majority of Bimuno users experience a significant increase in their gut Bifidobacterium within just 7 days. This in itself is impressive but by a unique anti-adhesive action it also helps flush ‘bad’ bacteria from your gut at the same time for a healthy microflora balance.
Christian John Lillis, of the Peggy Lillis Foundation, reports noticing an uptick in the number of people on Clostridium difficile Facebook groups who mention that they’re also struggling with anxiety. Animal studies have previously shown a link between mood and brain function and probiotics in the gut microbiota. Now new research on healthy human adults conducted by a group of neurobiologists at Oxford University demonstrated that supplementation with PREbiotics (Bimuno® galacto-oligosaccharides, B-GOS) lowered the subjects’ neuro-endocrine stress responses and increased their ability to  process positive versus negative attentional vigilance. The researchers assessed how subjects processed emotional information, such as positively and negatively charged words, after they’d been taking the prebiotic supplement. A similar effect has been observed in people taking anti-depressants and anti-anxiety pharmaceutical medication. The galacto-oligosaccharides in Bimuno® are a mixture of disaccharides, trisaccharides, a tetrasaccharide and a pentasaccharide. This is a condition known as xanthelasma and is due to fatty deposits just under your skin.
Though not getting enough sleep can contribute to this, dark circles could also be due to allergies and frequently itching the eyes or rubbing the nose.
This is usually your body telling you to increase your intake of foods rich in B vitamins and iron such as leafy green vegetables, lean meat and eggs.
Especially if not improving despite using creams available over the counter, this can be  a sign of coeliac disease.
This usually happens if we over expose the nails to wet, damp conditions or frequently use nail polish. The materials on our site are presented for general information purposes only and are not intended to amount to advice on which reliance should be placed.
Probiotics or friendly bacteria are able to alter the intestinal microflora balance favorably. If you are - under stress, taking antibiotics, traveling or simply want to promote your health, taking probiotics daily will maintain the health-promoting good bacteria in your intestinal tract.
People with flourishing intestinal colonies of beneficial bacteria are better equipped to fight the growth of disease-causing bacteria.
If your normal bacteria become depleted or the balance of bacteria is disturbed, potentially harmful bacteria can overgrow, outnumber helpful bacteria and become established, causing digestive and other health problems. When selecting a probiotic, it is important to select a high quality product that will survive the acidity of the stomach. May 21, 2012 By [Julia Mueller] 46 Comments Learn how to make kombucha at home and rejoice in the art of naturally fermented probiotic drinks! On February 4, 2014, I released my cookbook, Delicious Probiotic Drinks, which includes the ins and outs of brewing kombucha as well as detailed instructions on brewing other probiotic drinks such as ginger beer, kefir, lactofermented lemonade, rejuvalac, and cultured vegetable juice. If you’re new to kombucha, here’s the skinny: kombucha is a natural probiotic drink which can aid in digestion, increase energy naturally, manage hunger and can create PH balance in your digestive tract.
Kombucha has also been known to boost your immune system (since it populates your system with good bacteria and rids your gut of bad bacteria), your energy level, and even your metabolism. An efficient method of transferring the kombucha from the jug to bottles or the dispenser you will be using to drink the kombucha out of.
Allow the tea to cool to roughly 75 to 80 degrees (or if you only boiled half a gallon of water, add the remaining half gallon of cool water so that the hot water cools faster).
Once the tea is in the 75 to 80 degree range, add the SCOBY (if this is your first time making kombucha and you bought your SCOBY online, simply remove it from its package and slip it in). Place jug in a dark place (closet) that stays relatively warm and is not disturbed by people and light.

You will notice your SCOBY is bigger – it will grow to the width of the container it’s in and a second SCOBY will form. Leave the SCOBY in the jug with enough kombucha to barely cover it (or if you want to clean the jug, remove the SCOBY and place it in another container while you sanitize the jug. Now you have a choice to make.  If you would like, you can simply refrigerate your bottled kombucha now and be done with the process.
Or, you can leave the bottles of komucha at room temperature in a dark place, which will initiate a secondary fermentation process.  During this process, the cultures eat the sugar you just added (fructose from the juice) and continue to ferment.
Cover with cheesecloth bound by a rubber band and place in a warm, dark closet for 7 to 10 days. As already mentioned above, you can add 1 cup of 100% fruit juice per gallon of homemade kombucha prior to bottling it for secondary fermentation. After you have brewed a batch of kombucha, you can start the process again by following the same steps!
Since we typically brew 1 to 2 gallons of kombucha at a time, we don’t need to continue brewing batch after batch. If you take a break between batches of kombucha, it may take slightly longer for your next batch to brew because your SCOBY may take a little time to come out of hibernation mode. For more tips, tricks, information and recipes on kombucha and other probiotic drinks, check out my book, Delicious Probiotic Drinks!! Oops the rest of my post disappeared (twice!) Anyhoo, I was taught to steep 4 bags if tea in a quart of water, bring to room temp, add a cup of sugar, 2 more quarts of room temp water, SCOBY dude, cover with cloth & Lid and let brew for 7-8 days. All of that sounds perfectly fine except for maybe the tea-to-sugar ratio and the lid part. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, I am running to the kitchen to take the lid off my second batch right now!!!!
If for whatever reason, my SCOBY dude does not survive, do you have any recommendations for where to buy a new starter culture? Eating all the right fruits, veggies, and healthy foods isn’t very much help if your body isn’t getting all that it can out of them.Check out these tips to learn how you can help your body to absorb more nutrients and get the most out of your healthy diet. It is very important to find the best probiotic supplements, but before you know how to choose the best probiotics, it is important to know what probiotics actually are. Probiotic supplements have been known to help with lactose intolerance, the prevention of colon cancer, lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, improving the immune system and preventing harmful bacteria growth under stress, among other beneficial factors. You may associate yourself with one of the above conditions and are therefore wondering what the best probiotic supplements are for you to use. Before you turn to probiotics, it is important to know that you are getting enough bacteria. It is also important, when looking for the best probiotic supplement, that you look at the ingredients. In addition to the probiotic supplement having bacteria, it should also house FOS, the preferred food for friendly bacteria. In fact, if you drink tequila made with natural agave, it'll give you way less of a hangover than any other drink you could choose with sodas or sugary juices. Without these foods, we become predisposed to many kinds of allergies and a variety of chronic as well as autoimmune diseases. It is shown that green peas include Leuconostoc mesenteroides, a strain of probiotic bacteria with high IgA-inducing ability in animals. Using low processing temperatures to keep them intact, producers can add probiotics to dark chocolate at up to 4 times the amount discovered in many other forms of dairy. They are found in fermented foods such as kefir, live-culture yogurt, real sauerkraut and pickles (not ones made with vinegar), kimchi, kombucha and other naturally fermented foods. In fact Bimuno has the most potent bifidogenic (Bifidobacteria promoting) effect of any available prebiotic.
Ingestion of Lactobacillus rhamnosus (a strain of PRObiotic) has been demonstrated to modulate information processing strongly linked to anxiety and depression and to improve the neuro-endocrine stress response in lab animals – in plain English, this probiotic turned anxious, fearful mice into mellow ones. In other words, PREbiotic supplementation with Bimuno REDUCED THEIR ANXIETY LEVELS AND OCD THINKING. Results showed that the supplemented group paid less attention to negative information and more attention to positive information than either a group given another type of prebiotic (fructooligosaccharides, FOS) or a group given a placebo. Taking a prebiotic supplement may relieve their life-impinging symptoms while also improving their overall physical health – without the adverse effects of pharmaceuticals. There are so many subtle signs it gives us, that picking up on them, by being attuned to what is normal for you is vital to feeling well and preventing future problems.
This can put you at risk of developing diabetes and a condition called the metabolic syndrome if it is higher than  80cm as a woman or 94cm as a man. Working out what they could be, for example, house dust mites, and limiting your exposure may help.
This is a gluten-sensitivity condition whereby the body reacts to the gluten protein in food.
This can be problematic for women especially as we may be health conscious and refrain from animal products rich in iron. Moisturising the nails regularly can help and using a supplement with biotin (vitamin b7) may be effective.
They inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria as well as promote good digestion and boost immune function and thus increase resistance to inflammation and infection.
These friendly bacteria or probiotics, form a protective barrier to keep bad bacteria out, maintaining a healthy intestinal tract.
This is important because the intestines are the largest immune organ in the body and promoting their health strengthens your body's overall natural defenses. Helpful bacteria only provide a protective effect when a proper balance is maintained among all the different bacteria that normally reside in your intestine. These harmful bacteria are known as pathogenic bacteria and they have the ability to cause gastro-intestinal problems such as diarrhea or abdominal pain if not kept in check by the beneficial bacteria.

This little reality check lit the inspiration flame and I decided we needed to make it at home. Similar to yeast or yogurt cultures, kombucha is made from a living organism called a SCOBY, which stands for Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast.  It grows, multiplies and ferments which means it is very important to make sure the SCOBY stays clean and healthy.
They help maintain healthy microflora in your gut, which ensure efficient digestion and aids in nutrient absorption. If you are new to making kombucha, please seek multiple how-to sources before making a batch. You can do this by running it through the dishwasher, handwashing in very hot water, or by coating it in distilled white vinegar.  We keep the jug we use for brewing sanitized by handwashing it and pouring about ? a cup of white wine vinegar in it and sloshing it around. SCOBYs will always continue to grow.  Once a SCOBY gets to be a couple of inches thick, you need to cut off slices in order to keep the SCOBY healthy.
We then add juice (organic pomegranate blueberry 100% juice is my favorite), stir and fill the bottles about an inch from the top.  Seal the bottles well. The jug does not need to be sanitized between batches unless your SCOBY becomes unhealthy). Good luck on your kombucha brewing and remember: fermenting drinks at home is fun, easy, affordable, and healthy!! However she didn’t mention anything about the mold or being cautious which worries me.
Everything I’ve read about brewing kombucha has said putting it in sunlight kills the bacteria. I never recommend for people to combine their SCOBY with any other ingredients besides tea and sugar. But looking at pictures online, it really doesn’t look the same, so I am questioning the quality of my dude. Probiotics are bacteria molecules that are beneficial and can also be in the form of yeast. Keep in mind that it varies for different conditions and the best probiotic supplements may not be suitable for every person. If you are getting less than 10 million live bacteria then you probably want to increase your bacteria intake so that it meets this standard. Generally, it is good if a probiotic contains bacteria from the Lactobacillus family, otherwise there are obviously different bacteria’s that help with different conditions. This ensures that the probiotic will operate on an optimum level, as FOS nutrition helps probiotics grow stronger and function better.
The minimal amount of sugar in tequila makes it far less likely to give you a hangover than other spirits – but be careful what you're mixing it with. Scientists have proven that probiotics can balance our your immune system and put the healthy bacteria back in your body. Agavin, the special sugar that's present in tequila, actually acts as a property to increase your metabolism and has been known to possess weight loss properties. These holes allow larger particles of undigested food and toxins through and the body attacks them as invading pathogens, producing an inflammatory response. Rob Wotring, Greenteaspoon’s Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, is currently engaged in clinically testing a pill version for travel. This means good bacteria found in green peas might increase the level of IgA antibodies within the immune system. Also, cheese could act as a carrier for the probiotics which might improve the immune system. If our gut flora has already become seriously out of balance, we can also benefit from taking high quality probiotics as supplements to populate the necessary array of friendly bacteria in our gut microbiomes.
An out of balance (dysbiotic) gut microbiome produces a wide variety of symptoms – including anxiety, depression, and OCD. The people who had taken Bimuno® also had lower levels of cortisol (a stress hormone linked with anxiety and depression) in their morning saliva.
Prebiotic intake reduces the waking cortisol response and alters emotional bias in healthy volunteers.
Here are some signs your body may be using to tell you something’s up with your health and what to do about it. The risk is substantially higher if more than 88cm or 102cm as a woman or man respectively. It can sometimes be a sign of a fungal infection, psoriasis,  thyroid problems,  or arthritis.  If due to these conditions, one would usually have other symptoms such as a rash, fatigue, painful joints respectively.
If you have health problems you should consult a doctor or other qualified health professional. This fizzy beverage is also rich in folic acid, enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants, and Vitamins B1, B6, and B12. It is very important to keep all instruments used in the process of making kombucha clean and to keep the SCOBY healthy. If it falls below 70, it’s not a huge deal, it will just take longer for the kombucha to brew.
You can give these slices to your friends (who are super jealous that you’re making your own ‘bucha) to start their own batch.
Cover the container with cheesecloth.  The SCOBY is fine to sit like this until you make another batch – just make sure you check the SCOBY before starting another batch. I love stewing fresh fruit with a little bit of water, sugar, and fresh herbs to flavor my kombucha. Once you have added your ingredients for secondary fermentation, pour the kombucha into glass sealable bottles (I use flip-cap bottles) and allow the bottles to sit in a warm, dark place for 3 days. I keep the jar covered with cheesecloth bound by a rubber band, place a bath towel over the jar, and store it in a warm dark place (just like I would do if I were brewing a batch). I typically cover my jugs with cheesecloth and then bind the cheesecloth with a rubber band. And huge kudos to you for starting your own kombucha – you’re going to love it! Add a Little Fat to VeggiesA low-fat dressing on your salad may actually be preventing you from fully absorbing all of the available nutrients.

In persons affected with lactose intolerance, the lactic acid bacteria can be digested to convert lactose into acid and then it is easier to digest.
Before you purchase a probiotic, be sure to do research on what you are specifically looking for or ask your doctor to recommend a good probiotic. This is especially important with probiotics that are taken for irritable bowel syndrome and chronic diarrhea. Probiotics can be used by people and children who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle and want to have a strong immune system and healthy well balanced intestinal tract. With high rates of obesity and associated waist circumference, diabetes, which gives us problems with tiredness, concentration, frequent urinating and drinking water short term, and long term can affect our vision, circulation and life expectancy is common. Depending on the cause of this, dietary interventions and exercise can help to reduce this.
We need both insoluble (examples include wheatbran, whole-grains) and soluble fibres (examples are oatbran, pulses) to prevent constipation and help decrease cholesterol levels respectively. It also contains enzymesIn addition, kombucha contains small amounts of zinc, copper, iron, and manganese. When ready to drink, refrigerate to chill and open the bottles carefully, as the additional fermentation creates gasses that build pressure in the bottles.

The word “probiotics” comes from the word pro (for) and bios (life) so this gives the impression that they are increasingly important supplements that can be used in everyday life, which is true. This is just a small example of the hundreds of probiotics out there that deal with many conditions. Green peas might be able to help people defeat colds as well as infections thanks to their inherent probiotic bacteria. It is okay for you to pay extra for those special digestive yogurt brands, yet any with a€?live and active culturesa€? listed might help.
Though similar to yogurt, kefir is fermented with more bacteria and yeast, so the final product is richer in probiotics.
We get concerned about cholesterol because it can be a risk factor for developing problems with the heart or brain such a a heart attack or a stroke respectively. Good hygiene and airing the feet out as often as possible helps with healing and preventing a recurrence. Soluble fibres are more likely to cause wind and bloating, vhowever gradually building up your intake of both types can prevent this from being problematic.
Be a badass kombucha home brewer.  We began researching how to brew kombucha at home and began collecting bottles and other fermenting tools.
If you see a single spot of mold (from what I hear mold on kombucha looks similar to bread mold), abandon ship – throw out your whole SCOBY and discard all kombucha liquid. Note: Your kombucha will continue to ferment while in the refrigerator, although refrigerating it slows the fermentation process significantly. Regular exercise and a good diet can keep this in check but talk to your doctor about a test for Type-2 diabetes.
It is important to know if you have this condition as strictly avoiding gluten is the main treatment and leads to it resolving. People who suffer from digestive ailments such as Crohn’s Disease, Celiac Disease, ulcers, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Candida, etc. Please read instructions very carefully before starting a batch of kombucha.  Kombucha is not for everyone. Your doctor can do a simple blood test for coeliac disease and if positive, you can purchase gluten-free food on prescription. You definitely do need to keep an eye out for mold, although as long as you follow all instructions regarding sanitation, the risk of mold is very, very low. Take a ProbioticFinally, remember that the friendly bacteria in your digestive system also aid in breaking down your food and allowing your body to use the nutrients. Taking a daily probiotic can help to keep your gut bacteria flourishing, active, and digesting your food.Plus, probiotics can also help ease certain other stomach ailments, which can reduce inflammation in the gut and further help your body get the most out of the food that you put into it.Do you do anything to try to increase nutrient absorption?
