To date, the reported occurrences of this happening are few and far between, indicating that most patients will not have any kind of allergic response at all. More specifically, the presence of the plastic in the mouth affects the production of saliva, which leads to increased sensitivity of the soft tissues of the mouth (gums, tongue, and inner cheeks).
The mildest ones include an itching sensation on the gums and other soft tissues of the mouth, including the roof of the mouth, tongue, and inner cheeks. In turn, this should help to minimise the irritation and sensitivity caused from wearing this style of braces. Most allergies are accompanied by one or more symptoms that you should look into, particularly if you are experiencing discomfort. Although the removal of your Invisalign® trays can disturb the progress that you have been making, it might help to determine whether or not you do have an allergy to Invisalign®. To most people the possibility of developing an Invisalign® allergy seems like a farfetched idea or joke.
