Vision

back

The Net could become the first truly democratic nation where citizens are digitally polled on any issues quickly, easily and daily. The Net's interests would come first and we wouldn't have countries like the USA trying to muscle in with the CDA.

The Net would be a nation competing among the others in this world, it would become a political player in the world and a member of the United Nations. How else would we protect our rights?

Of course there are many issues and problems to be overcome first. There would need to be some kind of dual citizenship offered. But when those problems are overcome by determined people like at the EFF then the advantages will be incredible. We'll have to pay tax, but why not? Other citizens have to, but this will prevent governments trying to muscle in and collect revenue from our transactions.

We must be wary, though, of large companies dominating what promises to be an exiting, pioneering nation. We must ensure that we preserve the freedom of expression, the wide-spread acceptance of people for who they are and the unprejudiced nature of the Internet. We must preserve and encourage the feeling of community, co-operation and sharing that made the Internet blossom. We must show that we believe in ourselves, our new nation and the future.

Long live the Internet! Long live its Netizens!
