Some people really loved last week's feature on What are Netizens:
A somewhat now neglected 19th century American writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, said, "The time has already come for the sluggard intellect of this continent to look from under his iron lids and to fulfill the postponed expectations of the world with something greater than the mere exertions of mechanical skill." He was referring to the paucity of American cultural progress of course not cyberspace technology. But his comments do apply, I think, to the state of art of the Internet today. We few (Netizens are a still very privileged minority of the world's population) have such `wonderful toys' on the Net (E-mail, real time audio/video, chat rooms, news groups, browsers, search engines, a surfeit of Web sites, home pages, etc.) that we often forget to look from under the overwhelming technology superstructure to what should be a new means to more meaningful and satisfying cultural progress and human communication. Jeep@j-dom's attempted definition of a Netizen is an open-eyed step in the direction of meeting our great expectations of the Internet's potential. I appreciate the quality of thought and good writing that go into the production of this article. Thank you.
