One thing I've become tired of is Microsoft bashing.
Its all very fun but really pointless. They're a company, sometimes they make mistakes just like the rest of us. Such a big company is likely to make big mistakes occasionally. They are constantly in the spotlight, any mistakes they do make are always highlighted, no matter how petty.
Software should be compared on merit. Using Netscape Navigator just because it isn't Microsoft's is daft and it doesn't encourage competition and so the improvement of software. Ant-Microsoft alliances are doomed from the start. Instead of aiming at a moving target they should aim to provide something special and unique to the consumer. That will move them above Microsoft.
Of course, we need to be aware of possible monopolistic actions on Microsoft's part, but we'll only smash their position through providing the best and doing it with pride. Some Microsoft software is good, some is bad. Just make yours better, don't pooh pooh theirs just because its by Microsoft.
This industry, just like any other, is survival of the fittest. If Microsoft is the fittest, then so be it, but I know there are some pretty smart operators out there. Instead of whining about Microsoft, just do your best and you'll get there!
