Before I start this week I just want to point out that the company mentioned didn't pay to say this!

Ok, well what company? Drum roll please.... Let me introduce Iomega!

As the winner approaches the podium let's see some clips from the past!

Iomega have been a removable storage company for a while now. But they've recently upgraded their presence with the high-profile launch of a new image and a range of great products. Their cheap. high-capacity backup solution is the Ditto tape backup system using Travan technology. Very good value, reliable but not too fast (I've got one, I should know.)

Next is the Zip drive, a high capacity floppy drive or removable hard disk. It could be seen a both. It uses 100Mb disks, is fast, cheap and flexible. You can get internal versions but I've got an external one. I have never looked back! Its blue, what more do I have to say?

Ok, well its fast, just a touch slower than an EIDE hard disk, the software included is brilliant. Its very transportable, easy to use. The disks are extremely rugged and cheap! 10 pounds a disk is brilliant!

The top of the range is the Jaz drive. This is a very fast removable hard drive. I don't have one of these (sorry Iomega) but friends say they're fast, the SCSI one that is. I don't know how the external one performs but its green so it MUST be good! The disks hold 1Gb which is amazing, and they cost only 80 pounds. So they work out a whole 2p cheaper per megabyte than a Zip disk. How rugged the disks are is questionable but they are quite chunky and not quite so pocketable as a Zip disk.

The point is, though, that all three of these have been huge hits. Everyone is getting them! Why? Not only because programs are getting bigger, but we are getting more and multimedia off the Net. We need a place ot store all these downloads. Also as digital data become more and more vital to our everyday life we'll need to carry more and more with us.

Looks like Iomega have got it all Zipped up!
