It’s been an amazing journey being able to connect with so many thought leaders through the School of Greatness podcast. From Danielle LaPorte, author of The Desire Map, to Jack Canfield – the Chicken Soup for the Soul creator – the authors I’ve been able to interview on my podcast have very powerful messages. When I started  The School of Greatness podcast, I decided I wanted to make it successful enough to interview three specific people someday.

Lewis Howes you have covered a lot if great questions with Tony I really had smile on my face for the whole interview! After attending Tony Robbin’s signature event Unleash The Power Within 5 times within the last 5 years, I decided to finally step up and attend his most advanced program, Date With Destiny in Palm Springs of December 2012.
If you follow this blog at all or watch my videos, you most likely know that I’m a huge Tony Robbins fan and have been heavily influenced by his work. Last year when I attended UPW in New Jersey and San Jose, I wrote a 4-part series review of the event on this blog, along with lengthy videos and details about the experience. This is something that most people are already good at, or at least those that were in attendance of the event. Tony Robbins says that the #1 problem you have is that you think you’re not supposed to have any problems.
Emotion is why someone will run into a building and give their life for a stranger – the emotion to serve, which comes from a meaning that by giving my own life, I am more significant.
Your destiny is who you are going to become and what you are going to give in this lifetime. An important piece of Tony Robbins work at Date With Destiny is identifying what your top needs are from the 6 Human Needs.
One of the biggest breakthroughs I had at Date With Destiny was changing the needs that I valued most. There were many other big pieces of day 1 of Date With Destiny, including a powerful exercise we did to change our story and to effectively blame the person in our life that has contributed the most to our story being the way it is. On day 2 of Date With Destiny, Tony Robbins began talking about something called meta-program, along with the cycle of meaning and the spheres of influence. Everything that we do, consciously or unconsciously, we do in order to meet one or more of our six human needs. We all develop certain behaviours or actions, whether they be good or bad, to meet our needs. People that engage in destructive behaviours only do it when they are in a certain state: they feel bored, or stressed, or lonely, or anxious.
The ultimate force behind patterns or behaviour and emotions is your Model of the World, also known as your Blueprint, which consists of your rules and beliefs of why things are the way they are and how things should be.
In any moment in time, the meaning you give to a situation is shaped by your Emotional Triad. The quickest way out of pain and into pleasure is by changing the Triad you are experiencing in the moment. Another big part of day 2 was creating your 4 primary Power Virtues and using the power of Incantations to really condition them into your nervous system. We then used Incantations to condition these new beliefs and virtues into our nervous system. One of my favourite parts of Date With Destiny was experiencing a Oneness Blessing, which was one of the most profound spiritual experiences of my life. Everyone in the room got in a meditative state and cleared out our chakras, and then had these Oneness Blessers come by and touch us on our head, which gave me a profound experience. Another one of the most powerful parts of day 2 was discovering what my past Primary Question was, and then replacing it with a new Primary Question.
My Primary Question had benefitted me for years, as I was always focused on becoming better everyday, but also limited me without me realizing it.
How can I become even better, while appreciating even more of who I am and the love that is inside of me right now? This is when you are no longer completely selfish and begin to care about your family, your friends, the people in your circle.
A value is an emotional state that we believe is most important for us to experience or avoid. We all have a hierarchy of values that are most important to us that we work harder to try to experience. Our Rules are the beliefs we have about what has to happen to experience our values, or emotional states.
During day 3, we also did a Goal Setting Workshop to discover what our ultimate destiny is and who we want to become.
There is nothing on this planet that will make you grow more spiritually than a relationship, as a relationship brings up our deepest fears of not being enough and not being loved. Sexual attraction, spiritual ecstasy, and intimate connection thrives in a relationship when there is a distinct polarity between the energies of the individuals involved. There are different types of masculine and feminine energy, what Tony Robbins calls Dark Masculine and Light Masculine, along with Dark Feminine and Light Feminine. There are certain things that Tony Robbins pointed out that made a lot of sense to me and light bulbs went off. There are three dimensions of a relationship, similar to the three levels of love that Tony Robbins describes that I mentioned in the Unleash The Power Within review. In a stage three relationship, you take total responsibility for how the other person feels. Most of this day was working with our buddy and spending countless hours discovering our new values and rules to the point where our brain turned to mush. The biggest breakthrough was getting rid of significance from my #1 value and putting love, happy, grateful, passion, etc… above being physically fit and success. As you can see, I added consistent, inappropriate and debilitating before many of these values as it is sometimes useful to experience these emotions, but not consistently or in debilitating or inappropriate ways. I experience consistent, debilitating feelings of depression only if I were to consistently lie to myself and believe that I have no control over anything, instead of remembering how fortunate I really am and that I am in control of my life and how I feel.
I experience consistent, debilitating feelings of laziness and procrastination only if I were to consistently do absolutely nothing that move me towards my ultimate destiny for a period of time, instead of realizing that I can easily make progress by taking simple actions. I experience consistent, debilitating feelings of unworthiness only if I were to consistently lie to myself about how I am not enough, instead of remembering the truth that I am someone of value and that everything in my life is outstanding.
As you can see from these new rules, it’s very difficult for me now to experience depression, laziness, procrastination or unworthiness. We also spent time on day 5 creating our mission statement, also known as the purpose of our life.
The purpose of my life is to be even more fully alive, grow and make a difference in the lives of others.
This is something that empowers me daily and something that I can look at on my wall and it gets me motivated to take action. One of the ways that we integrated these changes is through teaming up in a group of 4 and having to use incantations and a lot of energy to really condition our brains to believe these new changes. Overall, Date With Destiny was by far one of the most incredible, life-changing experiences of my life.

Podcast Today, 7 of the 10 leading causes of death in the United States are chronic diseases, and almost 50% of Americans live with at least one chronic illness.
In the United States alone, two-thirds of the population are overweight, 25 million people suffer from diabetes, and half of the population are on some type of prescription drug for health problems. One of the things that I found interesting that Tony Robbins mentioned during the event is that the #1 thing that stops people in their lives is fear, and the #2 thing is LACK OF ENERGY. Energy is not only the basis of existence, it is the fuel that makes everything in our lives real and possible.
During Day 4, it was mainly Joseph McClendon III teaching the day, along with Tony Robbins via video. Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells – they are the living organisms to human life. The body’s primary medium for eliminating waste, which all cells need to be able to do, is the lymph system. These symptoms are your body’s attempt to get rid of the poison you put into your body. The 12 steps include the 8 Gifts you want to give yourself, along with the 4 Poisons you want to dramatically reduce or eliminate your intake of for optimal health and vitality. As mentioned earlier, oxygen is the source of all energy in the body and is what our cells require. Not only that, but the lungs and lymphatic system is one of our body’s vehicles for eliminating waste. If you are thirsty or your mouth is dry, then you are REALLY dehydrated and want to be drinking water immediately. One thing I learned that is interesting, is if you are hungry or starving, the first thing you should do is drink water and focus on breathing. Another important aspect of this principle is to be consuming FOODS that have water in them, such as live vegetables, fruits, and sprouts. Having Essential Fatty Acids in our diets is crucial to our overall health, as every cell in your body requires them to function, particularly your brain, which is made up of 60% fat.
My favourite source of essential oils, and one of the best on the markets, is Udo’s Choice Oil Blend. There is a delicate balance of acid and alkaline that our blood must maintain that has a vital importance to maintaining your health. Just like how our body must maintain a certain body temperature, our blood must maintain a certain pH level. This is often why sprinting or lifting weights causes you to feel TIRED afterwards and throughout the day, as it builds up acid in your body and your body has to work hard to neutralize that acid. During Unleash The Power Within, Joseph McClendon III teaches us the 7 Rules For Healthy Eating. There are certain supplements that can be important to add to your diet, such as greens, digestive enzymes, probiotics, oils, acidophilus, anti-oxidants, multi-vitamins, and minerals.
The human body was designed for motion, yet few of us actually use the full range of motion that the human body was designed for. It’s crucial to make sure that your body is aligned properly through stretching, yoga practices, chiropractic work, and even through exercise programs.
Tony Robbins follows Pete Egoscue’s method for structural alignment, which is worth checking out, especially if you have back pain.
Your emotional state and emotional well-being also plays a huge role in your physical health and energy.
There’s been a lot of studies and research that demonstrates how stress affects the body in a negative way, whereas laughter has the ability to heal. Tony Robbins has certain exercises, such as an Emotional Flood, which is designed to have us experience gratitude, joy, love, passion, pride, achievement, confidence, and all of the most powerful emotions, as a healing affect on our bodies.
These questions will change your focus and allow you to change your emotional state, which affects your biochemistry.
Having a morning ritual where you allow yourself to experience these emotions fully can do wonders for your life. I also recently created a blog post on The 10 Day Mental Diet Challenge which can do wonders for putting this into practice. There’s a book called The China Study that has a lot more research on the affects of animal flesh on the body. A big one for me to eliminate was Caffeine, as I used to depend on it as a pre-workout supplement. For sugar, there’s a fantastic book called Sugar Blues that I recommend that explains what sugar does in the body, and how it leads to diabetes and other serious health problems. You can have everything in moderation, but you want to make sure that 90% of the decisions you make to put into your body are intelligent choices. Even choosing natural cleaning products, soaps, shampoo’s and cosmetics are important for our health and well-being. At the end of Unleash The Power Within, Tony Robbins and Joseph McClendon III propose the 10 Day Challenge.
I have done this before and used to be a strict vegetarian, raw foodist and it made a huge difference to my life.
I recommend that you do your research on the following principles and begin incorporating them immediately. If you want to take up the 10 Day Challenge, go for it – it will make a huge difference in your life. The next step for me is to attend Date With Destiny, which is something I’ve committed to attending later this year in Palm Springs in December. I had so much fun creating this review, as it allowed me to reinforce and reflect on many of my experiences and lessons that I had learned. The answer, according to what I’ve learned from Tony Robbins, is that there are only 6 reasons why anyone does anything. No matter who you are or what you do, there is a common force that is driving and shaping all of our emotions and actions.
While our beliefs and values amongst human beings are different, the primal NEEDS that we have are universal.
When you eat a cheesecake, you immediately meet your need for certainty – you relax and feel comfortable. If you link 3 or more needs to any thought, feeling or behaviour – it becomes an addiction. When you workout at the gym, you can meet your need for certainty as you feel like you’re in control and more confident. When you can identify all the ways that you’re meeting your needs through your behaviours, then you can start to change them. With this understanding, I’ve been able to overcome binge eating and other destructive habits in my life by identifying WHY I was doing them, and then finding better ways of meeting my needs with activities that empower me. We all prioritize these needs differently from one another, giving us a different order of what we value most. Unfortunately for most, having certainty and significance as your top 2 needs is the worst thing that you can have.
When you have certainty as one of your top needs, it forces you to always have to have control over your world. If certainty is one of your top 2 needs, then you likely live in your comfort zone in life. When you value certainty or significance above LOVE, then you don’t feel love or express it until you first feel totally certain and significant. After attending Unleash The Power Within and Date With Destiny multiple times, I’ve really been focused on changing my needs over the years. The need for significance was a huge driving for me to become successful and change myself.
Most of my goals, motivation and focus lately has been more on connecting with and serving others. In the past, most of my goals were focused on MYSELF (significance driven), whereas now they are more focused on reaching a certain number of people through my blog, videos, products and services.
I STILL have the need for significance, as we all do, but it’s just not my driving force as much anymore. I’ll likely continue to attend Unleash The Power Within and all Tony Robbins events, as I always continuously learn, expand and develop myself by going.

Structural alignment and maximum strength is designed to take charge of the motion-powered musculoskeletal system, which affects our balance, metabolism, visual acuity, fertility, and many other fundamental biological processes.
Negative emotions, thoughts and beliefs create acid in the body and can cause disease or illness. Saturated fats, trans fats and dietary cholesterol raise blood cholesterol, which is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack, and also increases the risk of stroke. Mother Theresa used to say, “You, in the West, have millions of people who suffer such terrible loneliness and emptiness. It adds to confusion but eventually you’ll make up your own mind by seeing what works for you. This was a bit complicated for me, and reading through this slowly, helped me to understand it more, and see how I can apply it to my own situation.
