I spent so much time painstakingly cutting out paper triangles, sewing yards of banner and hunting down just exactly the right font for my invitations that I completely forgot about providing food for Evan’s circus birthday party until the last minute.
Circus cake by Amanda, covered in homemade fondant, top layer is rice krispie treat, second layer vanilla, bottom is chocolate. The lemonade has lemons floating in it, the pink lemonade has pink ice cubes with cherries in them.
Vanilla smash cake with buttercream frosting for Baby Evan – the pictures are FANTASTIC.
Check out more party posts including circus party decorations and our circus party photo booth. I don’t like to call my friends insane, but my GOD woman – do you realize this kid is going to have tons and tons of birthdays?! At the nonedible arm of the Eli Zabar empire, parents can stock up on whimsical paper goods emblazoned with Yankees and Mets logos or monkey cartoons.
Animal masks and piñatas beckon wide-eyed kids into the shop, which boasts a comprehensive selection of character-themed partyware adorned with the likes of Justin Bieber, Captain America and the Smurfs.
For the full party supply experience, check out Party City near Penn Station—this super organized array of paper goods, costumes, favors and candy makes it a one-stop shop in the realm of party supply stores, and it even has its own balloon bar for making your kid's special day totally epic. Stop by Chinese emporium Pearl River Mart to find the coolest kitschy knick knacks around—grab strings of paper lanterns, rope lights and pretty garlands plus exotic goodies like paper fans, chopsticks, calligraphy sets and gummy candles to complete your party experience. Balloon Saloon is a definite go-to for your usual inflatables, but they also offer cool stuff like singing balloons, custom-printed balloons, balloon sculptures and balloon bouquets. I held two different parties – one for the family to come for dessert and another for little friends. For the beverages I purchased Strawberry and Orange Crush for the pink and orange colors and Jarritos pinneaple for the yellow (it is a Mexican soda and can be found on the ethnic food aisle). Guests got to take home Salt Water Taffy in the party colors, chocolate mold butterfly suckers that I made using chocolate candy melt and Butterfly Gummy Candy (purchased at Winco). At the party the following day for her little friends I served many of the same items, but added a few to turn it into lunch.

To continue with the color theme I offered plain potato chips as well as cheetos (what toddler doesn’t love cheetos?). It was fun to brainstorm ways to incorporate the butterfly or color palette into all of the food details! I got a 2.5 gallon party bucket, which was MORE than enough and they let me borrow a scoop and gave me free cups. That means I get Diet Coke money if you happen to like something I mention enough to buy it. Its rotating lineup is heavy on small gifts for little ones, and it also carries plenty of party supplies. While parents browse the requisite party hats and tableware, children can try out tiaras or magic wands for their special day. Try not to lose little ones as you navigate aisles full of colorful gift wrap, greeting cards, paper goods and favors; their awesome arts-and-crafts kits make for instant party activities. For the pink layer I used a strawberry cake mix (I made the rest into cupcakes for the friend party). They are one of my favorite desserts and they matched the color theme – double score! Keeping with the color theme I served pineapple, cantaloupe and watermelon that I cut using a Butterfly Shaped Cookie Cutter.
If you use my text or images in a round up, feature or any other purpose, please link back to the proper post and give credit to Events To Celebrate. Also, I thought maybe giving all the kids an option besides SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR SUUUUUUUGAAAAAAAAAAAAAR would be a wise choice.

Unfortunately, the vision in my head didn’t come out of the piping bag all by itself. The middle and top layer were a yellow cake mix with a bit of food coloring added for the orange layer. Only one photo may be used from any given post with a link to the proper post for more details and images.
I don’t know how you’re going to top this, but at least the party stores in your area can rely on a steady line of business! I'm Suzanne, a 33-year-old mom, photographer, Navy wife, blogger, baker, and amateur at pretty much everything else. I guess you need to actually have some cake decorating skill in order to get what’s in your head. I made homemade cream cheese frosting because I don’t like the flavor of shortening based frostings.
Do not republish an entire post (either the text or photos) or repurpose, crop or in any other way alter my images when using them.
I looked for items that either fit the butterfly theme or the color theme – that way they would all coordinate.
If you do feature one photo from a particular post, it may not be the collage image typically placed at the top of a post containing multiple photos with a title that is intended for pinning.
You can find more of my photos (or even hire me!) over on my photography site, Ginger Snaps Pictures.
