Yesterday morning we packed the kids up and headed to the Winter Farmers Market at Terra Garden Centre in Milton. Although I didn’t get a picture, I stopped by the Snowden Farms stand to learn more about natural Beef.
I had a great conversation with John from Snowden farms about the benefits of eating natural beef. Dinnerlicious is a meal service catering to busy, health conscious people who can’t seem to find the time to pull together a meal from scratch (story of our life!).

Marilyn and David have been doing preserves for quite a few years and have been attending the Farmers' Markets for about two and a half years. It's still early days for the Garden Place markets and the aim is to build awareness in the community that they exist.
Marilyn and David's preserves business is a retirement hobby for the pair but both say it is a very rewarding hobby. Marije Banks and Kath de Groot are sisters-in-law from this family owned and operated orchard that has been growing blueberries since 1985.

They want to know their eggs come from chickens that are treated fairly and the farmers market is one way of getting the product to the people who want it without adding to the price for the middle man. It's all about being local and it's all about the consumers being able to ask questions, to become more knowledgeable about the food they are eating and what goes into the process.
The suppliers share and help each other out, all that behind the scenes work that people don't see like setting up beforehand. Whether you are a stall holder or a customer, you feel really like you are part of the community.We're working towards ensuring that it is sustainable in the long term.
We are at the moment working with the New Zealand Farmers' Market Association right across the country to work out ways of making sure each of the stall holders can really understand how to do a good job so people don't loose interest in the Farmers' Market. The people that do come are there for the freshest foods and wanting to support the local community. It takes a while for that awareness that we are here so we are well aware we need to be patient.It's been harder than we thought. The customers we had on Sundays were saying it's a good idea and we consulted customers on that fact and then it wasn't as busy right from the start so we were like whoa what have we done wrong and we were evaluating it. We got the time wrong and we had to change that and possibly that's been confusing for some people but we think we have the time right now. Tailoring the product to what the people who are coming here want is actually quite different to what the people on Sundays want.
