Conventional pesticides are damaging to our health, and some studies suggest that they’re linked to many diseases, including cancer. If you can’t afford to go to the gym, you can go for a jog or do resistance training at home. I don’t always buy organic produce but certain vegetables I will only buy organic, especially for when I am juicing (I don’t want to consume a concentrated glass of pesticides, it defeats the purpose, don’t you think?
The one thing to keep in mind is that no study can conclusively prove that the pesticides cause cancer.
If you can’t afford expensive water filters then there are cheaper options (read my post “Improving The Quality Of Water You Drink”). If you regularly eat the 12 most contaminated foods, on average you'll be ingesting 10 different pesticides per day—versus two pesticides daily if you only eat the 15 least-contaminated fruits and veggies. Plus, conventional farming practices and chemical pesticides aren’t good for the environment. I'm not sure about you, but I'll be avoiding the Dirty Dozen and opting for organic instead. Organic fruit and vegetables can be very expensive and for some people it is not financially feasible.
As we already know, organic produce is healthier anyway!But what about the fruits and veggies that landed in the murky middle?
And when chemical pesticides get into the soil, the nutritional value of our food can be compromised.
Organic farming produces healthier soil and less pollution and uses only natural fertilizers (however, organic farming methods are more expensive than conventional, hence the steeper cost). We're talking about a vegetable that a lot of people eat on a regular basis, so it's important to know where your staples stack up.
Take the time to review the full list of all 47 fruits and veggies studied so you can decide where your money is best spent on organics. Produce prices often fluctuate from week to week, and when a big shipment of any item comes in—organic or not—the prices are going to dip lower.
