TP: There have been so many categories of outrageous food on this season, it’s hard to pick just one. PH: Tell us in a couple of sentences why folks should watch this new show and what they can expect.
Q: How well do you think Aarti’s Indian influence of American dishes will go over with the viewer? Susie: I think people are really curious about this cuisine you know, I think it’s a really hot time which obviously from a marketing stand point was what one of the things that was appealing about Aarti to me.

There were a couple of weeks during the season towards the middle where I had a couple of bad weeks back to back. What is your advice for next season’s ‘Food Network Star’ competitors or anyone that wants to host their own show on the network?
That’s why I think the three people who were left, from day one, were consistent on the show with themselves in front of the camera. I played professional football and hardly ever was recognized because I always had a helmet on. With only 11 short weeks to ready finalists before a winner will be chosen, the Food Network Star beast is such that week after week, hopeful competitors will fall, faced with the crushing disappointment of elimination. It was only three weeks ago that Martita earned a crowning victory on Comeback Kitchen and shocked her would-be Season 12 rivals by making an entrance in the premiere episode. Read on below to hear from Martita as she reflects on her second exit from Food Network Star and shares her thoughts on the competition. Do you stand by your last-cooked dish and presentation, or do you agree with the judges' feedback? How was competing on Food Network this season different than when you competed in Season 8? In your own words, how would you explain to fans at home what this competition is really like? MJ: I received so many mixed reviews from Bobby and Giada this time around, I really couldn't tell you. Which special guest or mentor were you most excited to learn from in this contest, and why?
Jackson played college at Arkansas as a cornerback and strong safety then went to the NFL to play with the Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.
Jackson was an early favorite and used the advice from Star hosts Flay and de Laurentiis plus 30 Minute Meals host Rachel Ray to get to the finals and was finally selected the winner. In his exit interview with Food Network, Jackson said this was different than anything he had done in the NFL.

With FNS competitors working just a few feet away from each other, they always know what their competition is up to. Great contestants get kicked off FNS, not because they made a gag-inducing bowl of chili or boring mac n’ cheese, but because their audience has no idea what they are selling.
Since contestants are constantly getting feedback from their audience, they always know what mistakes they’re making. One woman, in her nervousness and excitement, continually cracked jokes that made the whole audience cringe.
Find an honest group of beta readers who are not afraid to tear apart your manuscript and your marketing plan. The Season 9 winner of FNS was the same woman who told terrible awkward jokes for most of the season. The FNS contestants believe that their food is so amazing that America will want to listen to them talk about it for at least a half hour every week. Aarti’s show was already on and doing very well, and the network decided to move forward with me on this great new project. There are many outrageous places to highlight across the country, and this season features a great group. A few that stand out: Outlaw Catering, the 105-pound burger, and the $175 burger at Wall Street Burger Shoppe.
You will meet engaging and entertaining characters at each location; it’s going to be mayhem!
But I think Aarti has the credibility with this cuisine with these flavor profiles but she’s sorta of Americanized enough to figure out how to bring those flavors to foods.
He talked to Zap2it about what he’s learned from his experience on the reality show and what he hopes to accomplish in his first season as a Food Network host. I got down on myself but being the competitor that I am, I just looked myself in the mirror and said, “Get yourself together. Here on Star Talk, we'll be bringing you the first exclusive exit interviews with the ousted finalists as they're sent home. I had a great, awesome run during Comeback Kitchen, and in the third week of Star, I went down. I received great feedback, advice and reviews from Tyler and Valerie, and I came in here on a real high. We worked so awesome together; it was effortless, no competition between us, just fun and love, and that really came through to the judges. How did you handle sharing the spotlight while also showcasing your own talent and star power?

The stakes are really high, there are cameras everywhere, and it is very personal because it's your food! Really took the time to tell me where I excelled and what areas I needed to work on and gave me specific notes.
But shows like Food Network Star (FNS) are also chock-full of valuable lessons in self-promotion.
The contestants must have a good product, but they cannot succeed unless they are able to sell that product – and themselves – to their viewers. It’s your marketing vocab that will have your audience want to devour it without cracking the spine. However, she tempered that behavior just a little bit and ended up connecting with the fans. That’s what I heard her just mentioning Indian flavors to American food, and I think that’s the right order of operations potentially for a new audience to try new flavors.
I think it is something that would highlight my personality and something I’m familiar with.
Eventually, the real person is going to come out and that’s what people want to see — what you’re really like and who you really are. In the Mentor Challenge, she failed to adequately represent the punny name of "Meat Me Halfway" in a dish, and thus neither Maile Carpenter, the editor-in-chief of Food Network Magazine, nor the mentors tasted her beef and peppers plate. Also I felt that the judges' expectations of me were much higher, and unfortunately for me I did not meet their expectations this time. But when Tyler Florence said to me, "Martita, the world will know your name,” I will never forget that! The winner of FNS is always the one who believes in themself the most – after all, no one will believe in your book if you don’t! And come the Star Challenge, in which she and partner Ana teamed up to film a promo video for their Family Road Trip show, she was adamant in scripting her speech, so much so that Giada found her to be "overly polished," and not in a good way. Back in Season 8, the competition was tough but friendly — I believe because we started together and grew (together) week to week. I think that’s what I tried to do throughout the whole season every time I stepped in front of the camera.
Martita's dish — a sope — was also cause for concern, as the panel wondered if it showed her range in the kitchen.
This time around, even throughout Comeback Kitchen, we all wanted to win; we were all coming from different starting points.
