The GSS will pass your information to Quest, and within a few days you will be able to access their not-for-profit grocery markets, which stock an array of food and household items at significantly reduced costs (50 – 70% less than most retailers).
It may not look like much from the outside, but there is a hidden gem concealed inside this humble eatery. The Big Baby itself is a massive half-pound burger topped with corned beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, three slices of cheese, ketchup and mustard. The danger with big food offerings like this sandwich is that they can so easily get lost in their own gimmick, content to just be the biggest and forgetting about flavor.
The kitchen serves breakfast until noon, cooking up house specials like chicken and waffles with hashbrowns, catfish and grits with Alabama style biscuits, or a T-bone steak and cheesy eggs served with Texas toast and your choice of grits or hashbrowns. Their industrial-chic pub is dripping with reclaimed wood, exposed brick, and more than 60 beers on tap. The markets are located on Dundas Street (Vancouver), East Hastings (Vancouver), 6th Street (Burnaby) and 104th Street (Surrey).

It’s pretty impossible to get your mouth around the whole thing, but you’ll have fun trying. The Big Baby costs $8 with cheese (you can get a cheese-free version for $6.50, but why would you?). If you’re stopping by for lunch or dinner, try a turkey burger, BBQ Big Baby, BLT, loose burger, or steak sandwich.
Most days you’ll find him behind the grill personally making sure your meal is cooked to perfection. A mouthwatering menu of elevated comfort food tempts you with artisan style pizzas, juicy burgers, and bar bites like aged cheddar tater tots, curried popcorn or crispy brussels poutine. The burger pattie actually tastes fantastic; it’s well seasoned with a kick of pepper that makes your taste buds stand up and pay attention. The burgers take about 15 minutes to prepare, but you can call ahead and cut down your wait time.

The GSS has partnered with Quest Food Exchange in order to help support people facing financial hardship to access affordable, healthy food. The block is mostly abandoned (save for a church across the street), but it’s easy to see why Food Exchange has survived despite the area’s economic hardships. Locals usually call this spot Big Baby’s or Big Baby Burgers because it’s home to The Big Baby: one of the largest sandwiches you’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring.
