En nuestro pais, estamos viendo como avanzamos (marcha atras) hacia una situacion que ya es una realidad en algunos paises del centro y norte de Europa, donde he vivido: la gran dificultad de conseguir en tu barrio alimentos frescos y saludables, especialmente frutas y verduras frescas. La expansion del trafico rodado (ponen miles de camiones en las carreteras ya congestionadas, para transportar los alimentos a miles de Km. La disminucion de la frescura de los alimentos ofertados (para aguantar los largos tiempos de transporte y de almacenamiento, los alimentos “frescos” son refrigerados o congelados, ademas de envasados…). Es decir, la forma como nos relacionamos con los alimentos que consumimos, determina no solo nuestra salud, sino la configuracion de nuestra ciudad, su sostenibilidad, e incluso, su autonomia politica y economica.
No se trata tanto de oponernos a las indudables ventajas de la globalizacion, sino de ser conscientes sobre quien y que intereses estan marcando las pautas de la misma, e intentar controlar los desarrollos negativos de la misma para nuestra salud y nuestras ciudades.
Al estudiar el acceso a los alimentos saludables, debemos de tener en cuenta las limitaciones de movimiento de las personas mayores y discapacitadas. En la zona del Black country (Inglaterra), que, como ya comente en articulos anteriores, visite antes del verano, se realizo un mapa de alimentacion (Food mapping) en la comunidad de Sandwell (una de las zonas de salud de actuacion especial: “Health action zones”). Identificar la disponibilidad de comercios locales donde pueda satisfacerse la lista de la compra comunitaria. Confeccionar los mapas donde se situan los comercios con alimentos adecuados y a buen precio que se encuentran a menos de 500 mts de distancia de la vivienda o lugar de trabajo[2].
