There is ample evidence now to show that high sugar intake is linked to a huge list of health problems. Problems associated with excess sugar intake include diabetes, obesity, heart problems, and of course digestive imbalances like Candida or SIBO.
Many of us are getting into the habit of reading at least some of the labels that are put on store-bought foods.
Some say that you can become addicted to anything if you consume too much of it over a long period of time. For those that are dieting and focusing on their carbs, what they may not realize is that the cards in processed foods are refined carbs. With a risk of losing our  head, our heart and our body, (as we talked about how in earlier posts) is it really worth it going out every day and eating junk from restaurants or deli’s and putting ourselves at such risk? While we do ( i also enjoy eating out from time to time) but be aware if you eat out a lot or order Chinese take out a lot.
It used to be, as in the golden age of "Mad Men," that pregnancy was considered a time when figure-conscious ladies could finally let loose a bit and indulge.
Fast forward to today, a period in our history when 1 in every 5 American women starts off her pregnancy clinically obese and 40 percent of pregnant women gain more weight than is medically recommended. While it may not seem like gaining extra weight in pregnancy is such a big deal, in fact, it really is.
A lesser known a€“ but highly concerning a€“ consequence of a womana€™s food choices and weight gain in pregnancy is that she can predispose her unborn child to an increased risk of obesity and Type 2 diabetes later in life. So what can you do to make your uterus a healthy home environment for the next nine months as your baby prepares for his or her debut?
If you start off your pregnancy overweight, your recommended weight gain is going to be lower, so your extra calorie needs are likely to be lower as well. To make each extra calorie count, it can be helpful to choose high-protein foods that are also rich in other nutrients that are important for a healthy pregnancy. If this reality check feels like a buzzkill, therea€™s a silver lining: While pregnancy is not a time for reckless abandon with your diet, you get far more dietary latitude if you choose to breast-feed.

The processed foods, trans fats, and additives found in fast food can place great stress on your immunity and digestive systems. For many people, a quick glance through your kitchen cupboards will reveal a whole stack of packaged, unhealthy foods that may or may not be masquerading as healthy choices. Let’s take a look at a few reasons why even ‘healthy’ processed foods might not be a great choice for your healthy diet.
The old advice from the ‘80s (“Eat more carbs, less fat”) has now been proven incorrect and is slowly being phased out from institutional guidelines. Processed foods often contain multiple sources of sugar, hiding under names like high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, molasses, and many more.

You might pay for it later, but the initial hit of flavor can sometimes make it seem worthwhile.
Next time you sit down for a processed meal, remember that it likely contains excess amounts of things like sugar and trans fat, and reduced amounts of the other macronutrients and micronutrients you’re your body really needs. These types of carbs pass through the digestive system rapidly and when they do it can cause spikes in insulin levels and blood sugars. Many processed foods are high in flavor but low in the nutrients that your body really needs. A chronically low fiber diet can slow down your digestive system and open the door for opportunistic pathogens like Candida.
She writes regular posts on the causes, symptoms and treatment of Candida, and has helped thousands of Candida sufferers recover from their condition. Using the right combination of these three elements is the best way to overcome a Candida overgrowth. Such as even a simple thing like a bag of chips, an order of fries or a soda always find their way into the belly while eating out. The risk of attracting more  diseases in mid forties from weight gain or obesity increases tremendously with these lifestyle patterns. Even a simple appetizer like above, could be loaded with preservatives and chemicals and synthesized ingredients that put a hurt on your health, especially if you over do it! There is now widely available ultrasound technology that enables doctors to determine just how well a baby is growing, without needing to use the mothera€™s weight gain as a proxy. For starters, women who gain too much weight during pregnancy are at increased risk for developing gestational diabetes and preeclampsia a€“ dangerously high blood pressure that contributes to premature labor. A baby's pancreas develops early in pregnancy, and it begins producing insulin by mid-gestation. In the first trimester particularly, you have a greater need for nutrients like folate, despite having no additional calorie requirements.
A woman entering pregnancy at a healthy weight will need to consume approximately 300 to 400 extra calories per day in the second and third trimesters. For some women in this camp, the extra needs may be as little as 150 to 250 calories per day a€“ roughly the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Studies of pregnant women consistently demonstrate deficiencies of certain nutrients, including vitamin D and calcium. A 0 percent plain Greek yogurt delivers anywhere from 14 to 17 grams of high quality protein in addition to being a good source of calcium. Talk to you doctor about his or her expectations for your weight gain during pregnancy, and attend all check-ups to screen for gestational diabetes and other potential nutrition-related complications.
Cutting them out is a good idea if you suffer from Candida overgrowth or any other chronic health condition. Manufacturers of processed food are masters at making this type of food taste extremely good.
However, there are some studies that are beginning to show that sugar and some types of junk food affect the same parts of the brain that some drugs do, like cocaine for example.
You might be eating three full meals a day, but if those meals are mostly processed foods you are probably undermining your immune and digestive systems. Most processed foods have very little fiber, and are instead full of refined carbohydrates. Let us take a look at few other reasons why we could stop ourselves from running to eat out too much. So, stay away from eating out and get to being  healthy and looking good and feeling great, as you may have years to live and take care of yourself! Let us take a look at few other reasons why we could stop ourselves from running to eat out.

What about the handling of vegetables and meats that go into food preparation, that likely have preservatives and shelf-prolonging ingredients. The message is that if what we eat and drink has got toxicity or impurities that contantly weaken our bodies, perhaps we could choose better options. And we have much more specific guidance as to the added nutritional needs of women in pregnancy, which mathematically speaking, is much more like eating for one and one-fourth than it is eating for a full two.
They are also at greater risk for complications during labor and delivery from having excessively large babies. If moma€™s blood sugar is too high based on her food choices, more sugar will pass through the placenta and into the developing babya€™s bloodstream. Again, the emphasis should be improving the quality of each calorie you eat, rather than increasing the number of calories. For women whose pregnancies take place mostly in the fall and winter months, getting enough Vitamin D is of particular importance, since theya€™ll be exposed to much less sunlight to make their own supply. Since protein doesna€™t affect blood sugar levels very much, getting some of your extra pregnancy calories from protein rather than, say, french fries, is probably a good idea. By staying on top of your nutrition-related goals and tracking your progress closely, there should be no surprises a€“ and thata€™s exactly what wea€™re looking for in a healthy pregnancy. Spikes and troughs in your blood sugar can lead to cravings, bad dietary choices, and an unhealthy relationship with food. Eating lots of fiber can also protect you from heart disease, diabetes, diverticular disease, and constipation. Consult your doctor or health professional before starting a treatment or making any changes to your diet. If this happens consistently, the fetal pancreas becomes overworked, making extra insulin to help absorb the extra sugar.
So instead of doubling down on cookies, youa€™ll really want to double up on portions of folic-rich fruits and veggies, such as avocado, citrus fruits, strawberries, asparagus and leafy greens. Your doctor will be monitoring the weight gain of both you and your baby, and that should provide the best feedback as to whether youa€™re eating too little, too much or just the right amount. Fortified milk and yogurt are excellent sources of these nutrients, and some cottage cheeses are fortified as well. Look out for unexplained , non-specific items like ‘natural flavoring’, which may hide heavily processed ingredients. This can result in unnecessary a€?wear and teara€? of the cells that produce insulin, increasing the childa€™s risk for diabetes later on. Beans are an especially good choice, since theya€™re rich in both folate as well as iron and zinc, while peanuts or peanut butter and cashews also deliver the nutritional goods. Lactose-free milk has the same nutritional value for those moms who find that dairy doesna€™t always agree with them. Be aware of the different names for sugar, and be especially careful of any long, technical sounding names that you can’t pronounce! In addition, current research suggests the environment within the womb can help a€?programa€? the babya€™s metabolism by altering genes that will dictate hormonal pathways for appetite stimulation, insulin production and more a€“ creating a genetic predisposition for metabolic disease separate from any physiological stress on the pancreas during gestation.
If you dona€™t care for dairy, seek out unsweetened calcium- and vitamin D-fortified soymilks or other plant-based milks, rather than fortified orange juice, if possible, as the latter is a concentrated source of sugar. But do you really want to eat all these chemical additives when some fresh, organic food is likely to taste just as good?
