Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8 hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Just like giving someone CPR when they are experiencing a physical health problem, you can learn how to respond to a youth who may be suffering from a mental health crisis.
The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The Youth class is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. The course includes information on: common mental health challenges for youth, typical adolescent development 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Use a 5-step action plan to help a young person in crisis connect with appropriate professional help.


This training is being offered FREE to the Robertson County, TN community under a federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Apply knowledge of the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help resources available to help a young person with a mental health problem treat and manage the problem and achieve recovery. Please note: Registration is first come, first served, and a maximum of 30 participants per training will be registered. Continuing Education Credits are available for Indiana Law Enforcement Board. All-day attendance is required to receive a certificate. If fewer than 10 participants register, you will receive an email inviting you to attend a different class later in the year.
