A leading cancer charity has warned long-term survival rates among patients with pancreatic cancer is worryingly low. Cancer Research UK said have said the survival rate for those with the disease has hardly improved in four decades. Just 3% of patients with the disease live for at least five years after diagnosis - this is only a slight improvement from the 1970s when only 2% of patients survived for five years.
Most cases of pancreatic cancer are not detected until it is too late and a lack of effective tests and treatments for the disease contributes to the poor survival rates. It is the 10th most common cancer in the UK - every year around 8,800 people are diagnosed with the disease and around 8,300 die from it. Over the next five years Cancer Research UK is planning to more than double the ?6 million it spends on research into the disease each year, a spokesman said. Charity chief executive Harpal Kumar said: "It's shocking that so many patients are still losing their lives to pancreatic cancer, which is why we've made it a priority to ignite a new wave of research that will see the disease detected earlier and much-needed treatments getting to patients sooner. Professor Andrew Biankin, who works at Cancer Research UK's Beatson Institute at the University of Glasgow, added: "Pancreatic cancer has very few symptoms at first and I see far too many patients who, out of the blue, are told they may have just months or even weeks to live. Coiling a rope will ensure that it will be immediately to hand and untangled when required.
The vagina has a natural protective layer which is acidic in nature, to help prevent infection.
Therefore, the vagina takes care of itself by continuously producing secretions to provide lubrication, cleanse and maintain its proper acidity to prevent infection.
The acidity and alkalinity of a substance is measured by its pH, which is a number from 0-14.

Regular soaps, feminine medications, sprays, powders and deodorants can affect the vaginal pH.
Douching (or washing out the vaginal passage) washes the ‘good’ bacteria out of the vagina, leading to the growth of harmful bacteria as the normal vaginal pH balance is upset. Showering daily helps to get rid of dead skin cells, sweat and dirt produced throughout the day. I don't face any problems, so I don't need any special products like an intimate hygiene wash. You should consider yourself lucky if you haven't ever faced symptoms like irritation, itchiness, dryness or burning.
Water is neutral, and has a pH of 7; the lower the number, the more acidic is the substance.
Therefore, as a preventive measure, Intimate hygiene (Vaginal Hygiene) in women should include the maintenance of the acid mantle in the intimate area. Hormonal changes during pregnancy or due to taking certain birth control pills can cause a change in the vaginal pH leading to itching in the genital area of some women.
However, some body parts, like the vagina, are very delicate and require special care and attention. This promotes the growth of lactobacilli, inhibiting the presence of harmful bacteria and preventing infection.
Some women may have vaginal itching, irritation, rash or even unusual discharge after using these products. Using scented tampons, pads or sprays can also disrupt the vaginal pH and cause irritation.

While bathing daily keeps you fresh, it simply does not complete the ideal hygiene routine one ought to follow, especially for the intimate area. The ideal way to prevent these infections is by using an expert intimate hygiene wash daily, preferably one which contains lactic acid formulation and anti-irritants.
All our organs function properly at specific pH levels and protect us from illness and infection.
For women in particular, maintaining intimate hygiene by properly cleansing the vagina is of great importance. Simply changing the habit and adopting an effective intimate hygiene wash like VWash Plus can help prevent vaginal discomforts. This is why using soap or only water for cleansing the vagina may not be ideal for intimate hygiene. Using expert intimate hygiene products such as VWash Plus daily will ideally complete your daily hygiene routine. Instead, using products with a lactic acid formulation, such as VWash Plus, helps to maintain the delicate pH balance of the vagina. If this finely tuned equilibrium of pH is disturbed, harmful bacteria can proliferate leading to vaginal problems like foul odour, irritation, discomfort and discharge.
