Changing the breakfast alone made a huge difference, and seriously kick-started my weight loss.
For lunch and dinner, I was given a simple goal for each meal: eat what she calls the "Fab Four" (#bwbkfab4). Kelly is now prepping me for my last few days before I walk down the aisle and say "I do." My diet is still pretty much the same as usual, except with an increased focus on hydration. I know that no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to lose that last bit of stubborn weight, those few pounds of fat that are keeping you from getting your ideal body; what I call your OMEGA body. Simply put, the bad news is that the vast majority of people will never achieve their OMEGA body; they’re never get to see the "final" version of their physique, fully developed and without the extra flab. You’ve spent the money on all the magazines, scoured every article on the Internet…but you’re more confused by all the conflicting advice.
Then there are the Celebrity Doctors promoting juice cleanses, specialty berries, and skin creams. You watch what you eat, you workout hard 3-4 times a week, and you’re taking all the right supplements.
On this very page, I'm going to reveal to you the keys to eliminating the last bit of "pudge." I'm going to give you all the reasons you haven’t been able to do it. And in doing so, I’ll explain why the constant struggle to get your body in a fat burning mode is actually shutting down your metabolism and sabotaging your progress. You’re absolutely right; that’s a great question—and I apologize for not introducing myself sooner.
I also serve on the advisory board for dozens of the largest fitness companies in the world—in fact, I’m even the Head of the Fitness Advisory Board for some guy named Arnold Schwarzenegger…who also wrote the foreword for my bestseller. Chances are, if you’ve picked up a fitness magazine in the past decade or so, you’ve probably seen me or read something I’ve written. Now, I’m not telling you any of this to impress you; I’m just trying to impress upon you that I know a thing or two about this fitness stuff. But mainly I’ve worked with a ton of “regular” people just like you, and helped all of them hit their goal, no matter what those were.
From packing 20 pounds of muscle onto a skinny vegetarian, to getting a life long couch potato to lose over 83 pounds in just 5 months, to creating the Number ONE program for helping people lose the last few pounds, I’ve spent the last 12 years helping people change their lives and bodies.
One day, I came across a study linking something called insulin resistance to regional fat storage. I made it my goal to learn everything I could about hormones, regional fat storage, and how your basic endocrinology is PREVENTING YOU from losing those few pounds of fat. Eventually, I came up with a system that I believed would completely FIX all of these issues. My clients follow a strategic plan designed for the express purpose of obtaining their OMEGA bodies. Speaking in strict linguistic terms Omega—styled as "?" is the 24th and final letter of the Greek alphabet. In literature and other artistic representations, Omega is used to denote the last, final, complete, or ultimate limit of a set of object, concepts or principles. You've reached Omega Status when you've built all the muscle you want, and have stripped away the last bits of excess fat to reveal the lean, hard, sexy definition underneath. And yet, whenever I go a gym, I see men and women doing these outdated splits in an effort to get lean!
If you only train a body part once a week you risk the potential to build quality muscle and shed fat.
You've probably questioned the amount of time that is necessary to spend on the elliptical or treadmill. Doing Low Intensity Steady State cardio (LISS) can be very boring and most likely not even close to fun. If there's one thing I know about cutting body fat it's that you must start with a tried and true, proven blueprint. There are thousands of ways to lose those last few pounds and after working with celebrities, athletes, fitness models, moms, and the average gym goer I've been able to accumulate all of my research, results and failures by putting it into a proven system that WORKS. If you've been around the fitness game for a while, you probably know about MRT, or Metabolic Resistance Training. Without getting too far into the science, it's been shown over and over and over again to be the most effective exercise for burning fat. REMEMBER: stubborn fat is a direct result of individual hormones—Omega MRT is designed to address that directly. When it comes to eating, if you digest 3000 calories in 6 meals or 3 meals it still remains 3000 calories. At the end of the day, if you are in a deficit, regardless of how you get there, you'll start to see the magic happen. If that's not enough, research has been changing over the last decade suggesting just this. In fact, I've got not one (1) but two (2) studies which illustrate that it doesn't matter HOW many meals you eat—as long as the calories are the same, you can eat 2 meals or 10 and it won't make a difference. Once again inexperienced trainers, poorly written articles and magazines have suggested you stop eating carbohydrates after 6 pm.
The theory behind this idea stems from the fact that you'll be going to bed so your metabolism will slow down while your sleeping thus storing those carbohydrates as fat rather than utilizing it as energy.
This study (3) took 78 over-weight police officers and placed them into either an experiment group (evening carbohydrate consumption) or a control group over a six-month period.
Greater weight loss, abdominal circumference, and body fat mass reductions were observed in the group that ate carbohydrates at night compared to the control group. There is nothing about nighttime that suggests it's time your metabolism slows down and starts storing carbohydrates as fat. And, yes, it's unassailably better to eat a diet that is loaded with nutrients and provide your body with what it needs to function properly than one loaded with crap.
The problem is that people have been conditioned to think they need to eat nothing but salads, seeds, and tofu in order to get lean. The thought of having to transform your pantry and kitchen to that of a co-op can be disheartening to many people with good intentions of getting in shape. More importantly: it doesn't matter how "certified" these foods are—if you eat too much of them, you will get fat. My point is, organic foods are awesome; they're just not the end-all, be-all when it comes to dieting.
In fact, it's possible to strategically place the foods you enjoy into your overall diet and still get unbelievable results. When done properly, you can use this strategy to elicit crucial fat burning hormones that will help boost your metabolism and accelerate your fat loss. Anyone who's been on a structured fitness program can tell you that nutrition is BY FAR the larger piece of the puzzle.
If you want to get your Omega body, you need to avoid all the mistakes laid out in the lies above, and really focus on the important stuff. Rather than force you to eat a certain number of meals each day, employing a flexible IF strategy allows you to eat WHEN you want, and as often as you want.
Not only does this make it easier for you to make progress and adhere to the plan, it's also incredibly effective from a hormonal perspective. In the context of dieting, cycling means that certain aspects of your nutrition are modified on specific days, based on activity. There are a lot of ways to do this, but all of them have this in common: you eat more calories and carbs on certain days than others.
In short, calorie cycling is going to help you lose fat while you gain muscle, optimize your hormones, and live longer. These are just a few of the principles upon which Omega Nutrition is founded—and these, combined with others, make it insanely effective for losing those last few pounds. Or worse, doing permanent damage with ill-conceived crash diets and poorly designed programs (that may not have been designed for YOU) that is difficult and sometimes impossible to reverse. Ask yourself: do you ever feel tired, sore, fatigued, exhausted, irritated and hungry even though you haven't done a thing all day?
Hopefully, people won’t experience anything that severe—but if your testosterone is even slightly below the normal range, nearly every physiological process in your body takes a hit. When you have a high amount of growth hormone pumping through your system, it allows you to utilize protein more efficiently, resulting in more muscle mass growth.
One thing to remember is that growth hormone acts as a “super charger” to a lot of other hormones, like testosterone—so when GH levels are high, you get even more benefits from having high testosterone. Leptin, also known as the anti-starvation hormone, is a “master hormone” which controls the production of other hormones that regulate metabolism. If you’re dieting incorrectly—using “crash diets” or simply eating too little—leptin levels will plummet. The key to losing the last few pounds and getting your Omega Body is keeping your leptin levels stable. It's not enough to just "eat right and exercise." Reaching your Omega body requires a specific strategy.
By strategically pairing specific training methods with the right dietary eating patterns, you can create a one-two punch for your endocrine system. If you're trying to lose the weight, whether it's 20 pounds to drop a few sizes, or the last few to get your ideal beach body, why not use the best stuff available?
You see, I hate dieting and trying to lose fat just as much as you do (believe me), so if something worked faster or better, I'd just as easily use and recommend that. The fact is, I spent years trying other methods, learning from them, and making them better. The ultimate way to train for manipulation of hormones and will force your body to shed fat and build muscle—FAST!
Now, just to keep things in perspective, to get 6 weeks of program design and 24 workouts from me you'd normally be looking at paying at least $397. Keeping records is vitally important – the single best way to progress is to know what to increase and what to decrease. When it comes to nutrition, it's not just about what you eat; it's about when and how much. The calculator will tell you exactly what amounts to eat, and how to spread them out based on your personal preferences. Anyone who knows anything about fitness can tell you that nutrition is by FAR the larger piece of the fat loss puzzle. To that end, I've put down ALL of my theories on nutrition in one place; everything I know about eating for fat loss, hormonal optimization, and health in one place. And so in this guide, I've outlined the ones that will help you meet your goals, and give you a rundown of which to stay away from—incredibly helpful for getting results without wasting money! To that end, I've created the Omega Body Blueprint quick-start check list – just go through the list before you start—it details EVERYTHING you need to get started with the program on the right foot. I have no desire to see you waste your time and money if OBB won't benefit you the way it has helped the people you see on this page. BUT: if you're just going to buy this system and let it just sit there with everything else on your computer, please don't bother wasting your time. With Omega, I wanted to make sure ANYONE who wants to end their frustration with having stubborn body fat and NEEDED to lose those last few pounds could afford this system.
At the same time, I DO have my business and my family to think of, so I can't give it away for free, or even charge this insanely discounted price forever. Remember, although all of the aggravation, frustration, and wasted time you've experienced hasn't been your fault, now that you know the truth, it’s your responsibility to take action. If you continue to use outdated, generic diets and programs—you know, the ones that you've been doing and that haven't gotten you anywhere?—you'll only make it harder to lose those final few pounds and unveil your OMEGA body in the long run. I know this, because I've helped thousands upon thousands of people all over the world regain their confidence and live their lives with the body of their dreams. How to prioritize your trouble spot body parts and use hormonal targeted training to go from "good" to great.

If ANY of these apply to you, then you need to discover the secrets of the training methods that will help lose the fat and get you to your Final Form. If you're thinking about working with the Chief Bro King of the Roman Fitness Empire, DO IT. So let's do this thing, and get you to where you want to be: rockin' your OMEGA body, and crushing life.
The Omega Body Blueprint is a rapid fat loss training program that uses the most effective training styles in the world to help you lose fat—not only from your body as a whole, but ALSO from your problem areas.
It's comprised of scientifically designed workouts that take into account everything from staying ahead of your body's adaptation curve in order to balance hormones. As an example, if you store fat mostly in the belly, then chances are you have high cortisol. Finally, if you mostly store fat in your lower body—your hips and thighs—then it’s because of your estrogen levels. Well, The Omega Body Blueprint addresses ALL OF THOSE issues—both independently and collectively. You see, OBB is a special program: the workouts have been designed to specifically release hormones that help to offset fat storage. Each of the different training styles in OBB is designed to generate a different hormonal response, each of which is intended to offset a particular issue caused by one of the previously mentioned hormonal imbalances.
All of which is to say—it doesn’t matter WHERE you’re storing your stubborn fat; Omega is equipped to deal specifically with that difficulty. Fat doesn't discriminate when it comes to who gains weight, and neither should programs discriminate on the fat they fight. In fact, a lot of my best clients are women; they tend to be the hardest workers—especially the brides!
As for men: generally speaking, guys have a higher level of familiarity with weight training, so the learning curve is usually a bit shorter for them (but only in the beginning!).
While having access to a gym definitely helps (and, in my opinion, makes any program more effective), you can certainly do these workouts at home. The workouts are written using barbells and benches, but that DOES NOT mean that’s how they need to be DONE!
Nearly any barbell exercise can be done with dumbbells, and almost all exercises have a suitable bodyweight alternative. When it comes to fitness, people don’t need to place limits on themselves because of age—and that includes using a program like OBB. As a 61 year old guy — who was out of shape and heavy, and who had never done resistance training in his life — it's incredible to me that over the course of my time in the coaching program, Roman transformed me into someone who is constantly complimented in the gym and in public for the shape that he’s in!

The main thing to understand is that everything is scalable; if something is new or feels unfamiliar, with a little practice you'll be ready to go. And keep in mind that as we age, that for people over 50… The Omega Body Blueprint is even MORE important. As we age, our fat burning hormones begin to decline, and a program intended to boost them is going to be even more important now than when you were 40.
The Omega Body Blueprint is advanced in nature, and not really designed for people who have never trained before. That said, modifications can be made to make it suitable for a wide range of fitness levels and starting points. So, if you're a "beginner" who is willing to work and learn as you go then YES, this is for you.
Let me just put it this way: I know the impact The Omega Body Blueprint has had on my clients, and I know its value. Being prepared also means preparing your body so hydrate well before you start – try to drink 500ml – 1 litre of water in the hour or so before you train or do your class, also do get some fuel in – something light and high in protein would be good (a protein shake, some nuts, a banana etc). If you’re having PT sessions then hopefully your trainer has discussed your goals with you – if they haven’t then you need a new trainer! Fitness instructors and personal trainers do what we do because we want to help people reach their goals – that’s one of the biggest things I love about my job so we want to know what you’re trying to achieve.
This doesn’t just apply to one on one sessions – talk to your group exercise instructor if you have specific goals.
In general though think about your body – so when you’re doing an exercise try to look at yourself in the mirror (yes, I know, as cringeworthy as that may seem). We all experience mood swings, its what we do to cope with them that can mean an absolutely awful day or one of happy moments despite the downer. This is about smiling just for the sake of smiling for at least a minute – this really does work, not only do you start of feeling silly, which makes you smile, your cheeks start to ache, which makes you smile and then if you do this with another person, it makes you smile. I love having a protein shake every day that is full of everything I need to stay healthy and strong given all the exercise I do – here is my favourite smoothie recipe. They contain a health benefiting alkaloid compound, capsaicin, which gives them strong spicy flavour. Chillies also have other antioxidants such as vitamin-A, flavonoids like ?-carotene, ?-carotene, lutein, zea-xanthin, and cryptoxanthin. They also contain a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, iron, and magnesium. Chillies are also good in the B-complex group of vitamins such as niacin, pyridoxine (vitamin B-6), riboflavin and thiamin (vitamin B-1). Cinnamon has some amazing health benefits (Nancy has written a great article on this I will share next week), I love the flavour because it reminds me of apple pie and home. Did you know that one teaspoon of cinnamon packs as much antioxidant potency as a half cup of blueberries?
We do know however that repeated use of stimulants in the body can lead to adrenal fatigue which has a whole host of other challenges so keep it natural and minimal.
There is strong scientific evidence available plus hundreds of testimonials from clients and class participants that I come in contact with every day that say being physically active helps us all lead healthier, happier lives. Those of us who participate in regular activity have a much lower risk of developing many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and some cancers.
Getting our daily dose of exercise should be something we do without fail, yes give your body a day of rest but for the other 6 days of the week, get active!
Sneak it in to your day by taking a walk rather than drive to the shops, climb the stairs rather than using the lift, do your usual classes but add some additional resistance, speed or duration to them, try something new on the time table at your local gym, ask a personal trainer for a focused gym based workout, buy a bike and cycle to work, walk the dogs the long route and don’t dawdle. I found an article that I thought I would share about hugging and why we need at least 8 hugs a day.
Hugs can instantly boost oxytocin levels, which heal feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anger. Holding a hug for an extended time lifts one’s serotonin levels, elevating mood and creating happiness.
There is a saying by Virginia Satir, a respected family therapist, “We need four hugs a day for survival. I’ve wrestled long and hard over whether to write this and whether to post these pics – because frankly I’m so embarrassed and humiliated by them that I’d already deleted some of the images – or so I thought.
Growing up I was never one of those naturally skinny girls – my weight fluctuated like any normal, moderately active teenager, I was short and a little on the dumpy side but not skinny and not fat either. In 2001 I started my PhD and started heading off to Indonesia each summer – for up to 6 months at a time. This pattern of weight gain and loss continued until I hit my mid-20s when suddenly the weight stopped dropping off so easily – I’d get back from Indonesia and  I’d lose half of the weight, but hang on to the other half. It wasn’t until I went on a work trip to Colorado in October 2010 and had this photo taken that I really realised I needed to do something. I returned from this trip, with the added bonus of a bout of gastroenteritis (which though I wouldn’t recommend – definitely gave me a kickstart in the right direction!) and signed up at my local gym, The Pavilion, with my (now) husband.  We signed up fully expecting to barely use it to be honest, and he vividly remembers me saying to him that “I’ll probably only use the pool, I doubt I’ll bother with anything else”… ha! Despite what I’d said I did try a familiar sounding class – aerobics, something I’d done before and a class from which I knew what to expect etc. So from October 2010 until January 2011 I went from not doing any exercise to doing to up to 10 classes or gym sessions a week.  I also signed up to “My fitness pal” and started tracking what I was eating. The weight started to drop – I lost the majority of the weight on my own and I was back down to close to 9 stone by January.
The weight had been dropping consistently but I’d got as far as I could go on my own – I’d hit a plateau. I headed off to Indonesia that year armed not only with knowledge but also some fantastic supplements from Colette that just helped me manage my weight gain – fat burners, omega 3’s (good fats), protein powder, vitamin C etc, and some targeted workouts that I could do in my tiny little shack. Yes I still put on weight, but not as much as usual and when I came back I got back on to her programmes to help me regain control and shift the weight and body fat I’d gained abroad.
I’m a lover of knowledge – as a University academic at the time I guess it was in my blood and I loved that Colette’s programmes encouraged me to learn – about nutrition, about weight training, about cooking, about fitness.
I was so inspired by Colette, and have always loved teaching and helping people, so I decided to train to become an instructor and personal trainer myself (in secret at first as I was too embarrassed to tell anyone incase I failed!). The principles I learnt on the programmes have become a way of life and I’m still learning every single day – and I love it!
I have been in the business of helping people lose unwanted body fat for nearly 10 years and in my experience getting this right does in most cases involve cutting back on unnecessary calories and moving more – there are however, lots of other factors that form part of the equation. In this blog post I will share a few stories that will demonstrate some of the patterns and obstacles that I have come across through working with clients to achieve their weight loss goals.
At the time she doubted whether she could actually lose the weight accumulated over the years but was willing to give it a go.
Sue had the kind of life that seemed perfect to others, she owned her own business, had a devoted and loving husband, kids that were doing well at school and she had a large circle of friends who she entertained in her beautiful home, she went of wonderful holidays with her family. I told her to think about and write down the thoughts and feelings that come up when doing her visualisations. Gary was in his mid 40’s when we started working together, he had an excellent job and was highly successful and respected and yet he still felt like a failure. Despite being highly motivated to lose the flab, he continued to fill his mouth with junk food and you guessed it, the weight didn’t shift.
When Jenny came to me, she was concerned that she and her husband had steadily been gaining weight during their 15-year marriage.
We talked about healthier meal options and although she made a few changes there always seemed to be a social event that got in the way. I asked Jenny for more information about the role that food played in her family when she was growing up, as it turned out she was the daughter of a couple who had survived the war.
Far surpassing her parents’ lifestyle, her husband was very successful and she was a stay-at-home wife, food and money were never issues.
When we met and started chatting about the things she felt held her back from losing weight, she said that ‘I feel happy when I eat what I want and miserable when I try to restrict myself’ of course she went on to say that she feels even worse afterwards. We went on to talking about why she felt happy when we was indulging and she realised that most of the time she was thinking about her dad and reminiscing about her childhood. So we started with small lifestyle changes, to improve her nutrition and started to bring in more exercise and activity. When we reviewed her goals and her amazing weight-loss of over 2 stone I asked her if she felt she had succeeded this time around and what was different? She then started to tell me about her parents and about how they were well meaning and loving but very controlling. When Lucy went to visit friends she would find any excuse to eat and would pig out on all of the treats that were forbidden at home.
I thought I would share these stories just to show that despite our best intentions we very often struggle to reach our goals.
Mindfulness and awareness are the first steps toward overcoming the barriers we perceive to be holding us back. So if your weight-loss journey seems more like an uphill battle that never ends, despite being highly motivated, take some time and think about what barriers you might be holding on to.
In the meantime, remember that you are doing the best you can right now, and weight loss is more complicated than eating less and moving more! Kelly says, "Secretly, I love this stage because we get to watch the initial weight fall off.
She suggests eating "skin healthy favorites like omega-3 packed fish, brightening lemon, fibrous leafy greens and water-packed vegetables, like cucumbers."Then, the other important factor of looking amazing in that wedding dress is keeping my stomach nice and flat. That you've been around the gym a while, and know how to exercise; that you’re not really some newbie who doesn't know a dumbbell from a doorknob.
That despite the fact you might be in "good" shape, you can't seem to get into GREAT shape.
But, if you feel like there’s just 5-10 pounds separating you from your dream body…well, who can blame you for rolling the dice on something that maybe—just maybe—can have 0.0035% impact?
Because even though you’re doing all the things you’re SUPPOSED TO, the love handles are still there, your pants are still tight, and you’re still UNCOMFORTABLE taking your shirt off.
I wasn’t about to resort to illegal steroids, so I resigned myself to being in “pretty good” shape, and never having the body I wanted.
SPECIFICALLY, the study said that people with “poor insulin management” tended to store fat…in their LOVE HANDLES. Even though I could get lean almost everywhere else, I still had tons of flub on my waistline and lower back. The amount of misinformation and confusion makes it very difficult for someone to stay consistent and actually find something that works. Doing one muscle group on Monday and waiting until the following week is only going to slow down your progress. Those are the 1-2 hour cardio sessions where you're plodding around on a treadmill watching the clock tick by, bored out of your mind. And as we touched on above (and will cover in detail below), hormonal optimization is the KEY to getting that Omega body.
You see, instead of just "fast-paced weight-training circuits", the Omega Body Blueprint uses FOUR distinctly different types of training. Many trainers, dieticians, and even DOCTORS are telling you to evenly space out your meals in order to speed up your metabolism and keep it fired up throughout the day. It's also worth noting that it's assumed insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance can be affected.
To put in the most succinct way possible, you need to take in more energy on days you expend more energy. It's critical that you understand the functions of specific hormones so that you aren't wasting your TIME and $$$ busting your ass with minimal results.
This means that it supports your efforts of attaining higher muscle mass and a lower percentage of body fat.
If growth hormone production slows down, so does everything else—especially with regard to recovery. You need to eat the right amounts—calories low enough to allow for weight loss, but not so low you compromise leptin. Well, yes, on some levels that’s true but you could be getting so much more out of your sessions. This doesn’t mean a massive time investment or lots of thought, but just a few simple things. Life’s busy, things get in the way, the train’s delayed, the weather is pants – the last thing you fancy is getting in to some lycra and jumping around… now whilst it’s much harder to skip a personal training session (you will usually have to pay for cancelling last minute), exercise classes can be really easy to skip.
You may just find they’re able to give you some tips to help support your route to that goal in class and in turn you will start to get more out of the session.
Trainers and instructors love movement – we love how the body moves, we love what certain moves do for the body and we want to share that knowledge. So you’ve done me a favour – I can now explain it another way and make sure everyone gets it. If you’re in a group exercise class try to position yourself so you get a glimpse in the mirror (even from the back), or if you’re in the gym and you’re near a mirror check out your form.
Working with a personal trainer or instructor should be just that – working WITH them – never be worried about starting up a conversation about the workout.
So we can either wallow in a bad mood or we can choose to get out of the fog and back into the sunshine! For my morning smoothie I then add these three ingredients that give me an instant mood lift – Chilli powder, Cinnamon and Guarana!
We know that the regular consumption of foods rich in vitamin C will help to protect the body from scurvy, helps to boost the immune system, and scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals from the body. These antioxidant substances in capsicum help protect the body from the damaging effects of free radicals generated during stressful and diseased conditions.
Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps to control heart rate and blood pressure.
These vitamins are essential in the sense that human body needs them from external sources to replenish. I love the effect it has on my body which is a little lift and as it helps to regulate blood sugars it is a must have for me in my smoothie. Guarana can be found in many commercialised products including soft drinks, energy shots and capsules. We have however neglected to take our recommended dose and as a consequence our health is suffering. It can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Research shows that hugging (and also laughter) is extremely effective at healing sickness, disease, loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress. The gentle pressure on the sternum and the emotional charge this creates activates the Solar Plexus Chakra. The galvanic skin response of someone receiving and giving a hug shows a change in skin conductance. And as a yoga therapist, I often give and receive them from my students at the end of a session. That for me it’s easy – I’m one of those women that are naturally skinny, I don’t have to try, and that I have no idea what it feels like to be heavier than you want to be – what does Nancy really know about trying to lose weight?…..
I found them on an external hard drive recently, and have made the hard decision to show you guys. I set off to Uni at a pretty low weight for me after the stress of A-levels, but the processed food and copious amounts of alcohol meant I started to creep up the scales.  It wasn’t really a big issue – I was active, playing sports, stressing about work etc. Whilst there I’d inevitably put on up to a stone – I was living in a remote village, on a very high starchy carb diet of rice, fried noodles, fried sweet potato etc. At uni anywhere around 8 stone 7ish was “normal” and I knew my weight was about right if I could drop it back down to around there, then it became 9 stone, then 9 stone 3,  then I’d be “happy” if I could get my weight to stay around 9 stone 7.. The shock of seeing this photo spurred me on (I’m in the foreground – not the moose at the back!). I stood at the back, wearing my baggy shorts and big t-shirt, trying to hide as much as possible…… And I loved it! I’d looked at joining weight watchers again as knew I needed something to keep me on track, but now we were living over in Molesey I couldn’t go with mum and didn’t fancy it alone.
Also, although I was losing the weight and developing some muscle tone, I was still flabby. It opened my eyes to a different, sustainable way of eating that helped me to shift body fat and weight, without losing muscle and without relying on processed crud. I’ve done the Total Body Reset Programme (in its previous forms) several times now – and every time I lose body fat (up to 5%), I lose cm’s and put on muscle.
I’ve even roped my husband in and we trained together with her in the run up to our wedding, and beyond.  Of course, like anyone, my weight fluctuates but now it fluctuates around a healthy weight.

I thought I’d have to give all that up – but I decided to experiment instead and learn from my new diet and put together a blog of gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan friendly bakes instead – so I really could have my cake and eat it – and so can everyone else!
I was able to wear my wedding dress with pride – and for the first time in 33 years I didn’t have to breathe in to hold my stomach in! Things like getting enough sleep, stress and how you manage it, your key systems and how they function, how slowly or quickly you lose weight naturally, your mind set and of course any emotional baggage that could be slowing you down. Maybe these will resonate with you and help you identify anything holding you back and help you move forward from here. Initially she would set goals around sensible eating and making time for exercise after work.
I asked her to close her eyes and imagine a future where her self-sabotaging behavior was no longer a problem, and she was living her life in the body she dreamed of. When we chatted about the benefits of losing weight we also covered other considerations, such as a new wardrobe, more energy, better sleep etc. She remembered being told stories about the years her parents had very little to eat about how her grandparents had to use food stamps and rations to put food on the table.
Holidays were a great opportunity for grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins to join in a feast of delicious food and treats. When she started finished uni and started working she became concerned that her weight might stand in the way of her career advancement. It was slow and sometimes frustrating for her but she started to lose about ? kg a week consistently. The food plan was flexible and you let me make decisions based on how I felt and what I thought I would enjoy.
She grew up with strict rules around how much TV she was allowed to watch, how many hours a day she had to study, and when she was allowed to visit or talk on the phone with friends.
Without a real understanding of the reasons we hold onto the bad habits that keep us from getting where we want to go, a long-term change would be extremely difficult if not impossible.
Just becoming aware of what we are doing and why and how the behavior is in a way ‘protecting us’ we can start to take steps towards being free from the things that seem to hold us back.
A good coach or therapist, or even talking with a friend, can help you shed some light on your situation.
She explains, "The easiest way to stabilize blood sugar, within the normal range and satisfy hunger is to focus on consuming 4-6 ounces of protein, 2 tablespoons of fat and 2 cups of fibrous vegetables at each meal."I'm telling you this girl knows what she's talking about.
Hence, it is a must that you use a dietary supplement that is scientifically proven and clinically tested. I am in business as an affiliate marketeer and may recommend products on this website for which I may earn a commission. Most people will struggle for YEARS to lose the last bit of fat, until they finally give up. Sure, energy balance is a real factor…but the idea that you can just move more and eat less to get into killer shape has a FATAL flaw (which I’ll cover in detail below). I’ve been in the fitness industry for about 13 years, and written hundreds of articles about fat loss, nutrition, muscle building, and how to lose the last few pounds.
The overall volume is too low and because the focus tends to be on isolation movements the calorie reduction isn't significant enough for maximum results. Throw in the fact that you have the potential to lose muscle mass, completely sabotaging your end goal. Not only does it have these kick ass functions, but it is also the leading hormone to increase glycogen levels, bone mineral content, and water retention in your body.
When these things happen it aids in even more muscle mass gain because it improves the overall cell growth in your body. You’ll be more injury prone, and it’ll take longer to bounce back from even the most minor damage; your immunity will be compromised and you’re more likely to get sick. It aids in handling the physical, mental, and emotional stresses you face every single day. But like anything that serves a specific purpose and is of high caliber, it's not for everyone. My company prides itself on service, so if for WHATEVER reason you have an issue, just hit us up and we'll help you right away. Have you ever wondered why your trainer or class instructor was telling you to do a particular exercise? The intention is there, you mean to go every Tuesday night… but… somehow you never make it…well start by actually scheduling it in to your diary – write it down, block out the time and make it a priority – not something you can choose to do or not.
Again this is far easier in a PT scenario as if you start to zone out your trainer should notice and bring you back to the workout.
They may also be able to recommend other classes to try that will help you that you’d never thought of, or ways to modify moves etc. Of course we also don’t want to bore you rigid in sessions harping on about it so we often hold back on the “why” – but if you want to know more – ask!
If it’s in a one on one session then this is even more important – remember that the PT session is YOUR time. Chances are that if you don’t like it there’s a good reason for it and it might be a reason I can fix!
We can probably modify things for you but we might also need to refer you to someone to check it out. Now if you’re doing a one on one you’ve got the trainer watching you but it never hurts to watch yourself too and see if what you think you’re doing translates to what you’re actually doing.
This stimulates the thymus gland, which regulates and balances the body’s production of white blood cells, which keep you healthy and disease free. The associations of self-worth and tactile sensations from our early years are still imbedded in our nervous system as adults.
Hugs can take away pain; they soothe aches by increasing circulation into the soft tissues.
The effect in moisture and electricity in the skin suggests a more balanced state in the nervous system – parasympathetic. And, it’s synergistic, which means the whole is more than the sum of its parts: 1 1 = 3 or more! In fact I very often get the “well, you don’t have to worry about what you eat, you’re tiny”, or “you don’t know what it’s like – you’re so fit”, “you’ve obviously got a fast metabolism”, “I bet you’ve never put on weight” ,  or variations on that theme. I started doing that regularly, and felt brave enough to try a few others – aerotone, body conditioning , lbt – all things I’d heard of.  I was really enjoying it – the classes were fun and motivating, the instructors were fab, and an added bonus – I was starting to meet people. Luckily for me though, through the gym, I met Colette.  I started off attending her bodycombat class and I was having so much fun.
Luckily she was running one of her first weight loss programmes – the 7 day kick start, so in May 2011 I eagerly signed up. This was the first evolution of her plan and even though it was early days it was still a fundamental shift in thinking for me and made all the difference.  I cut out the caffeine, I reduced my meat and dairy intake (eventually realising I didn’t want to eat meat and dairy anymore at all), avoided starchy carbs etc but didn’t feel deprived in the slightest. It never stopped her doing what she wanted to do and she developed a persona that made her the life of the party.
More often than not the week would start off great but she would start to slip back into bad habits come Wednesday and then would be making excuses not to exercise.
We started our session with a weigh and measure and when her results weren’t good we had a chat about it.
I imagined wearing figure hugging clothes, looking in the mirror and feeling proud, being lighter and more energetic.
Gary then said to me that he was concerned that if he lost weight and was still rejected by the ladies he could no longer blame it on the fact that he was fat, but that he would realise something even worse in his mind and that is that he is simply not that exciting!
Jenny found it extremely difficult to cut back on the big meals and treats her friends and family had become accustomed to, and although losing weight felt like a really important goal, she couldn’t stand the thought of her family or guests feeling like they hadn’t had enough to eat. Jenny still remembers her grandparents saying how lucky she was to live in a time when she could feel safe and secure that there would always be enough to eat. She knew she had to put herself in a better position to be put in front of management and customers. She had tried every diet out there and despite having some success, she would always put the back on and very often more. She started walking every day and learned to recognise when she was hungry, and when she had eaten enough food she stopped eating. I was consistently working out and thought I was eating healthy, but I wasn't seeing any real results. Chicken pesto lettuce cups with cucumber and tomato, with a side of roasted sweet potato fries4. If its wintertime where you reside be innovative think of some in house activities or workout routines you can do.Although others gain pounds you may also lose weight. In case you are expectant or are thinking of getting pregnant soon take time and learn about ways to avoid gestational diabetic issues. In case you are expectant or are thinking of becoming pregnant in the future take some time and find out about methods to stop gestational diabetic issues. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer, provider or party in question. I'll be honest and say that if you have the right stuff and use it the right way, supplements can definitely accelerate your progress. Have you ever wondered if there was a different movement you could do that would get the same results?
So make sure you have your kit with you or keep a spare set at work, or factor in the time you need to get home and get changed. If it’s a class you enjoy then it’s important you allow yourself the time to go to it – it’s YOU time and it’s vital. Yes it’s about getting those reps done but it’s more important you understand the exercise and what you’re meant to be doing than just bashing them out for the sake of it. Chances are we know a fair few physios, osteopaths, etc so can give you a personal recommendation.
In classes – take a look – if the instructor is telling you to keep your chest lifted, is it?
And if you don’t feel like you’re being listened to then find a new trainer, or another class! In addition to this “sweet spices” like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger have been shown to boost satiety and mimic sweetness, which allows you to cut back on sugar in nearly anything, from your morning cup of tea to the delight of homemade muffins. The cuddles we received from our Mom and Dad while growing up remain imprinted at a cellular level, and hugs remind us at a somatic level of that. Hugs get you out of your circular thinking patterns and connect you with your heart and your feelings and your breath. I was never particularly happy with the way I looked though and felt extremely self-conscious if I ever had to dress up to go out (always breathing in all night to hold my stomach in!).
Snacks were all extremely high sugar, and although I spent some of my days trekking around the forest following monkeys, I spent a lot of my time either sat in farmer’s fields watching monkeys crop-raid, or visiting farmers and interviewing them (which  meant being fed cups of coffee sweetened with condensed milk and more deep fried, carb-loaded snacks – which would be rude to refuse).
I also connected with people I’d met at the gym through the app and we spurred each other on.
I started at the back – I still remember that first combat class, me and another new girl (who is now a close friend!), in our baggy gear, desperately trying to keep up and dodge wayward kicks and punches! I’d lost more weight by incorporating pump in to my workouts but I still needed to do more. From March 2011 – June 2011 I lost the last of the weight I needed to drop and was back down to 8 stone 3 and I was feeling great! It also shows what a powerful motivating force the social side of group exercise can be – I don’t doubt that I would probably never have stuck with it in those early days if it wasn’t for the friendships I made at the gym and I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today (in so many ways) if it wasn’t for my closest and most long suffering friend – Colette. Wanting to find a woman who he could have a relationship with he tried joining a couple of online dating sites and became convinced that women were turned off by his fat belly.
She was the one who bought the groceries and cooked the meals, so she recognised the need to change her habits at home.
She realised that although she was bright and fun loving this wouldn’t be enough as she was very self-conscious in meetings and would rather stay quiet than speak up and share her ideas.
In an effort to cheer her up, her mum would often take Alison out for an ice cream or down to the local sweet shop or bakery to pick up some treats. She learned to modify her favourite recipes to healthier ones by changing a few ingredients. There was absolutely no junk food in the house and groceries were purchased at the health food store only.
She always felt that she was being a little deceitful and sneaky doing this behind their backs but she didn’t care. I came to the realization that if this is going to happen in time for the wedding, I need help! Salmon with an avocado and spinach salad with cucumber and lemon vinaigretteAlright other bride-to-be's, this is what worked for me.
In fact, low testosterone has been linked to everything from high anxiety to depression to thoughts of suicide.
I often hear people telling me they can’t make the evening classes at the gym as there isn’t time to get home, get changed, eat and get there after work. Don’t arrange things for that time if you can possibly help it – treat it like a work meeting that you can’t just skip. You’ve made the effort to get to the session – so try to put everything else out of your mind – the shopping can wait, that big deal at work isn’t going anywhere, the kids are being looked after (presumably!
I did venture to weight watchers at one point during this journey – I was staying with mum, in about 2007, and we both went together. It made me want to come to classes – not just to work out, but to see people and socialise. When I was in Indonesia during this time, I’d still slip, the deep fried carbs were impossible to avoid and their effects were ever present, and of course there were days I didn’t feel like exercising, but I found I had a new determination to try – no matter what (even without the use of equipment, and being out in the jungle!). I even ran the tough mudder race in 2013 with no extra training (that was partly because I misread and thought it was 5 miles not 20! It was only when her GP told her she needed to lose weight to control her high blood pressure and get her sugar levels under control that she started to look at her body and the extra weight she was carrying. Gary thought that if he could lose the excess weight, it would increase his chances of finding someone who would go out with him more than once. She decided that losing weight would help to increase her confidence and help to advance her career.
Having her mum’s undivided attention, when she was relaxed and full of fun were her favorite times. I get that – but if it’s a class you really want to do then the simple solution is to take your gym bag to work, have a high protein snack in it to eat on your way and head straight to the gym from work!
If there’s a booking system at your gym – book in, it will make you far more likely to attend. Is your butt in line with your shoulders etc etc It’s not vain to look at yourself – it’s sensible and will help you to become more body aware. Commuting meant I wasn’t building networks and a social life in Oxford, but neither was I building one in Surrey either – just my mum and my (now) husband. We did well, I lost about a stone, but as soon as I went back to Indonesia it went back on, and I crept right back up again. Other members and friends I chatted to started suggesting I try other classes – ones with scary names like bodycombat, and because other normal, not all super-fit,  members were recommending it I thought – well if they can do it so can I… and so I did! I kept coming back and then Colette encouraged me to try her BodyPump class too – another scary sounding class to someone new to all this stuff – what you want me to lift weights… to music.. Yes I was hitting my calorie goal, but I was cheating the system – I was still eating rubbish.
I do her beWELL bridal diet for 6 months, and now with my wedding less than a week away, I'm down 20 pounds! Engage with the class – that doesn’t mean you have to sing, shout or respond when the instructor tries to get the class to join in, but just be focused on the workout in whatever way works for you.
More often than not our bodies just don’t do quite what we think they are doing and it takes are while for muscle memory to develop, so help it along by keeping an eye on yourself.
My uni friends were spread all over the country and my long trips to Indonesia without phone or computer access meant I was losing touch with them.  I was still going to Indonesia for up to 6 months at a time, and for several years I was spending over 9 months a year over there. I knew I was heavy  –  I knew I was carrying too much weight and I felt wretched about it, but I didn’t really actively do much more about it. Now I’m not suggesting you have to cut out everything delicious and naughty to lose weight but I just wasn’t being sensible about my dietary choices. I find myself eating rubbish when no one is around, and telling myself I just don’t care.
I didn't think that would ever be possible!According to Kelly, the first change I needed to make was what I was consistently eating for breakfast! Now many of the things I mention here you may think only apply to personal training or one on one sessions but think about bringing them in to your exercise classes too – I promise you’ll see the benefits.
Some people like to be up front, singing, clapping, wiggling, connecting with the instructor… others prefer to focus on getting the moves right, watching their form in the mirror, or just enjoying the music – that’s all fine – whatever works for you!
Lots of this can be fixed with some simple cues or explanation from your instructor or trainer or we can modify it for you.
I was still self-conscious of my weight, hated being seen in a bikini and would never dream of wearing tight fitting clothes unless I had to!
And that’s the difference  – I’ve gone through all the yo-yo calorie counting and it just isn’t sustainable for me, these programmes are. Maybe part of the reason you don’t like it is because it’s uncomfortable – so it could be I need to give you a modification, or suggest some other exercises that you could do outside the class or session to improve your joint mobility for this exercise. I also know how rewarding it can be and I know there’s no one method to suit all – so here’s my weight loss journey for you, a mishmash of approaches, in all its fat, gory details.
But the scales were telling me I was back to my “normal” weight so that was what I went by. I was getting more and more miserable, my body image was appalling and I felt ashamed of the way I looked. I had an exercise bike, and when it wasn’t being used as a clothes horse, I’d do a 20 min peddle – usually whilst reading a book!  I half-heartedly tried to get in to a routine of going swimming a few times a week at my local pool.
I relied on sugary snacks and caffeine, and had a heavily dairy and meat-based diet, despite eating loads of fruit and veg too. But I was knackered from the commute and in the winter when it was cold and dark I just didn’t fancy it – plus getting in to a swimming costume when you’re feeling fat is never an easy thing.
It took a few sessions but pretty soon I was a complete Pump-addict and very quickly people were noticing the change in my body shape – I was starting to look really toned and the weight was starting to shift again. Trying to be ‘good' by counting calories or limiting breakfast to a juice or bar only backfires into overeating at lunch or caving at the candy bowl," she said. Well I can spend some time with you at the end of class or whenever and we can go through it together to help you get it right. I looked in to joining a local netball team (a sport I’ve always loved), but the ones I found trained at times I couldn’t make as I was working and so I did nothing.
Well I can give you something else to try first to build up to it…   Instructors are happy to do that – it only takes a few mins and if it makes you feel stronger and happier in class or your PT session then that’s brilliant! I don’t even have a photo of me in a bikini at my heaviest but this was taken in 2009 when I was creeping up to 10 stone.
