As I prepare to publish my own book about leadership next year (Update: The CEO Tightrope published in September 2014), I thought I would share this recent gem from DILBERT. Enter your email address to subscribe to this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.
These two sets of pictures are a collection of the most commonly used pictures by young children who communicate with PECS. Communication means transferring thoughts, information, emotion and ideas through gesture, voice, symbols, signs and expressions from one person to another.
The communication happens through verbally, vocally or through written words which express or convey the message to other is called verbal communication. Example: Baby crying (vocal) is verbal communication which express the hungry or pain through vocally. Non-Verbal Communication: Any communication without word of mouth, spoken words, conversation and written languages are called Non-Verbal Communication. Gary Chapman wrote a book called “The 5 Love Languages.” Did you know there were 5 love languages? And of course, not knowing your partner’s love language can create a lot of struggle and unhappiness.
Here’s how it works: let’s say you’re someone to whom quality time is the most important thing.
It’s not as difficult as you might think, to find out what your partner’s love languages are.
Great article Kristy and yes I agree a fantastic book and one everyone should read… The love languages are also applicable with working relationships, clearly # – 5 Physical touch is not quite the same!

Each book is a 3-ring vinyl binder and comes with two colored insert pages, a sentence strip, and Velcro to attach to the pages.
Three things are most important and essential in any communication process they are Sender, Receiver and the Channel (medium).
Example: television is an audio visual medium which decode the electronic signals into an audio-visual to the audience. Oral Communication: A communication which happens through word of mouth, spoken words, conversations and also any messages or information are shared or exchanged between one another through speech or word of mouth is called oral communication. Written Communication: A communication happens through any word written or often written sign which refers the languages uses in any medium is called written communication. It happens through signs, symbols, colours, gestures, body language or any facial expressions are known as non verbal communication. It’s a fascinating look at what people need out of a relationship, and how understanding your partner’s love language can keep a relationship alive and happy.
If unmet, they will inevitably result in unhappiness, lack of fulfillment and more than likely, an end to the relationship. If your partner needs words of affirmation, they are simply looking for verbal validation that they are appreciated. If your partner needs acts of service, they are looking for validation of their importance to you. In particular, I think there are few good resources for CEOs out there, so I hope my contribution based on my own experience as a CEO will help.

Example: Public speech, News reading, Television, Radio, telephone and mobile conversations. Example:  Simply any hand written, typed, Newspaper, printed word documents, letters, books and magazines.
No matter how awesome your partner is in every other respect, if he or she doesn’t provide you with quality time, you will always be unhappy. Of course you might get a “huh?” from someone who isn’t familiar with categorised ways of showing love, but as soon as they see the list, they will immediately gravitate toward one or two love languages. Acts of service can be as simple as taking out the trash before you’re asked to, and other small acts that help foster a sense of partnership and equality. Also included are instructions for constructing the pictures, discrimination training tips, data sheets, and a parent handout. A person who needs quality time just wants you to BE there – fully engaged with them, not to have you working alongside, lost in your own agenda and thoughts. Small, thoughtful gifts with your partner’s interests and values in mind are much more appreciated! Includes a CD that contains all of the data forms, checklists, and worksheets in the Manual.
