Having automated self-service provisioning, the next wave of opportunities for cost and performance optimization lies squarely in IT Operations management. At VMTurbo Ben helps customers and partners understand that it’s not if but when they’ll need an Application Performance Control platform in their data center. HP's new ConvergedSystem 250-HC StoreVirtual CS 250 expands the company's offerings in the burgeoning hyper-converged market. The flourishing market is flocking to hyper-converged solutions largely because of the simplicity and scalability, but cost is also a driving factor. HP aims to extend the cost savings by offering a new product that is half the cost of competing products. The 3-node configuration is based upon the same hardware found with the 4-node model, but it offers offers a much friendlier starting price point. The CS 250 comes with three 4 TB StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) licenses, which allow users to replicate data to any other HP StoreVirtual-based solution or any x86 server target with VMware. HP also offers the HP Helion CloudSystem 9.0, which offers a pathway to expand into hybrid-cloud implementations. HP designed its hyper-converged offerings to work well with its existing product stack because the company believes that customers will still employ traditional architectures alongside hyper-converged clusters. The 4-node CS 250-HC StoreVirtual is available on August 17, and the 3-node configurations begin shipping on September 28.

Vendors are jumping into the hybrid cloud game too: One of Microsofta€™s biggest marketing points over AWS is that it has software that customers can run on their own servers - Windows Systems Center - to build a private cloud that connects to its Azure public cloud to build a hybrid cloud.
But Gartner Vice President and distinguished analyst Lydia Leong says ita€™s not common to see customers a€?burstinga€? between public and private clouds, which is what many consider to be a hybrid cloud.
And so therea€™s been somewhat of a misconception created in the market: Some customers generally believe that hybrid cloud is about bursting between public and private clouds.
Leong says hybrid cloud management is not about bursting, instead customers should think about supporting two basic IT environments today: an old one and a new one, what she calls a€?bi-modala€™ management. Despite the challenge of managing these two environments, organizations are still going full bore ahead on hybrid cloud, whether they know it or not. The important decision for IT leaders is to consider how fast do they want to embrace these a€?newa€? technologies, like hybrid clouds, while still supporting the old legacy ones. That creates somewhat of a schism between an enterprisea€™s legacy IT and new ventures involving cloud and devops, says Bernard Golden, a frequent speaker on cloud issues at various conferences.

Much has been made of HP's recent decision to stop offering its 200-HC VMware EVO:RAIL-based products to focus on its CS-series products, but HP's continued use of VMware in the CS 250 signifies the company intends to keep its 15-year partnership with VMware strong. End users seem to like the idea of using a public cloud, like Amazon Web Services for its large scale and low-cost.
VMware launched a service with the name hybrid in it - vCloud Hybrid Service - in the past year.
Most customers have workloads they run in the public cloud, and maybe some they run on their own existing infrastructure.
The old environment is typically a companya€™s system of record that is heavily customized to the organizationa€™s specific use case and serves a core function for the business. New figures from New Hampshire-based analyst Technology Business Research show that nearly 20% of the 1,600 large enterprises IT decision makers recently surveyed reported that they are using two or more cloud services that have been integrated to create a hybrid cloud. IT organizations are faced with this dilemma of needing to own and operate critical legacy infrastructure into the foreseeable future, while at the same time building a brand new org and process structure around cloud based environments, says Mark Thiele, executive vice president of data center technology at Switch, a major cloud and collocation hosting provider.
He says the key to managing this environment is for customers to retain flexibility and choice to decide where those new applications are hosted - either on their own premises or in the cloud. Ita€™s not just about companies like Microsoft, VMware and IBM, which extoll their ability to manage old and new IT, but there are a variety of companies that provide integration services amongst many clouds.

VMware vRealize Suite addresses cloud management requirements across day one and day two operations for compute, storage, network and application level resources in heterogeneous, hybrid clouds. New unified service blueprints enable the modeling of infrastructure, networks, security, applications and custom IT services including their relationships and dependencies within a graphical canvas. This release features new costing and pricing policies for private and public clouds including VMware vCloud Air, AWS, and all other clouds supported by vRealize Automation. We’ve totally simplified the environment between private and public cloud, which allows customers to choose the right cloud for their business requirements, regardless of underlying technologies like hypervisors. These range from new security features to enable customers to extend enterprise-class security to all their public cloud resources, to support for extending on-premise management tools across the hybrid cloud, to an expanded list of supported hypervisors (adding OpenStack KVM and Microsoft Hyper-V to existing support for VMware vSphere)—all designed to deliver our promise of connecting heterogeneous environments regardless of hypervisor. In HP's experience, the majority of its customers come back and buy more nodes after they deploy the system, so they benefit from the "land and expand" business model. Finally, the company is offering Software-Defined Storage Design and Integration services to help its customers utilize SDS infrastructure.
But theya€™re not willing to put everything up in AWSa€™s cloud, so there are on-premises clouds for mission-critical and extra secure information. The new IT environment is where the company pursues leading edge projects; applications and software are developed rapidly, with fast iterations and quick launches. TBR estimates there is a $7 billion market for vendors who integrate various disparate cloud platforms together. According to a recent Forrester Research Total Economic Impact study, the VMware vRealize Suite can accelerate the application release process from weeks to less than one day and improve IT efficiency by reducing capacity used by 10 percent and delivering hardware cost avoidance of 15 percent, resulting in a Return on Investment of 243 percent. VMware vRealize Automation 7 is integrated with VMware NSX® 6.2 to dynamically configure networks and micro-segmentation unique to each application in the blueprint designer.
The release also supports Microsoft Azure for easy, comprehensive private and public cloud cost comparisons. And by 2020, we estimate that 50 billion things and five billion people will be connected.  These are staggering numbers.

And IT has a challenge: a€?You dona€™t want your old stuff to slow down your new stuff,a€? Leong says. The enhanced showback capabilities enable IT to provide fine-grained cost reporting to the Line of Business including showback across private and public clouds, a clear month-to-date and monthly cost projection analysis, and costs grouped by business services to provide business context. The unified service blueprints can be edited as text files to facilitate DevOps deployments.
New planning and cost optimisation capabilities visualise costs of used and remaining capacity by data center, allow modeling of new workloads, and analyse the impact on the remaining capacity or costs as well as quantify potential savings from reclamation opportunities. Now companies are trying to figure out how to use cloud to navigate the massive amount of data that comes from all these connections. Additionally, VMware vRealize Automation 7 features a dramatically consolidated architecture with simplified installation that reduces deployment time by up to 37 percent for most configurations (compared to the previous release) to help IT organizations accelerate time to value.
