Apple has expanded their iCloud storage plan lineup to offer dramatically increased storage capacities for a monthly fee. If you just upgraded and then enabled iCloud backups for the first time, you’ll want to be sure to start an iCloud backup manually to get your first backup complete.
Ever since iCloud Storage plans were made cheaper prior to the release of iOS 8, I have been torn about upgrading.
Pricing differs depending on your country, and for countries where the local currency isn’t supported, the default is US dollars.
Once you choose which plan you want to upgrade to, you’ll be asked to enter your Apple ID details, and then go through the usual process of making a purchase. In preparation for iOS 8 Apple has updated their iCloud storage plans and while theya€™re still more expensive than Dropbox and Google Drive, the new pricing and storage is far better than anything offered by Apple ever before.

The first question you should be asking yourself is why would you want iCloud storage over Dropbox or Google Drive? While the $0.99 plan sounds very tempting, this will get used up very quickly with iCloud backups. Now that you know the basics, herea€™s how to upgrade your iCloud storage, which you can do right now with iOS 7.1 or above.
The page should take a second or so to load, and you should see the upgrade options listed above.
Apple offers 5 GB of storage for free with any iCloud account, which they say should be fine for most users. On a PC: Open the iCloud Control Panel for Windows, then click Manage followed by View Account.

Unfortunately the default 5GB free plan remains unchanged, and that size is very challenging to use for most users particularly if you own more than one device. If you decide you don’t want the different storage plan, you can change or cancel it at any time by going back to the Settings and just selecting a new plan, or going back to the 5GB plan.
